Monster Hunter:Tri-Demo Impressions

In anticipation of the April release of MH3,I picked up my demo for Monster Hunter: Tri from my local gamestop a few days ago. The Demo comes with two missions-one Single Star Mission and the second being a triple star mission. After giving the demo a shot I gotta say I'm really impressed, visually MH3 looks AMAZING this being my first time experiencing MH on a home console (Ive played FRONTIER on my PC and all the Monster Hunters on PSP except the first).

When you boot up the game you are shown a screen where you select your controller scheme(one of three) the first option was to use the wii-mote and the second and third were different variations of the classic controller set up. I chose the option to use the classic controller as my means of playing.
After Choosing your controls you are taken to a "weapon select" screen, several hunters with different weapons and armors are shown-If your familiar with Monster Hunter games you will undoubtedly be familiar with all the weapons save one. "The Switch Axe" is a new addition to the MH weapon types and is quite a versatile one allowing me to switch between two different weapon types.

When I selected my hunter and weapon(a Great Sword) I went out on my first mission. I Immediately noticed the visuals of MH I'm not one to be picky about graphics but I was thoroughly impressed right off the bat. I quickly grabbed my items from a nearby item box and made my way towards my first monster.

As soon as I found the bastard I quickly went on the attack and found no problem with the combat at all.The transition from playing MH on my PSP for all these years didn't effect me taking down monsters on my Wii. The second mission had me taking on a more serious threat this one monster could summon other monsters by mimicking their calls.

The monsters that were called upon were nothing more than a few raptor-type creatures but as the battle drew on the creature summoned an even LARGER boss-class monster (one that was more fitted to be slayed by a expert monster hunter than myself). Least to say the battle soon turned towards my opponents favor as I faced down the dragon from dragon heart and his chortling friend in the background. My tour with monster hunter:Tri was promptly ended with a game over and a "thank you for playing" Screen.

Monster Hunter:Tri will be released this coming April and those who pre-order can get Monster Hunter:Tri and a classic controller(don't forget to ask for it!)
