My Top 3 Most Anticipated Games from E3

Every year E3 sets out to fulfill only one thing, provide a stage on which to show us gamers, media and marketers exactly what games and peripherals we have in store. Many years, E3 comes and goes and leaves nothing more than a slight level of excitement. This year though, I personally was absolutely floored. It seemed that not only was there an amazing amount of content, but it was quality content coming from almost every developer. That said, There are a few that just blew my mind, and this is how I would personally rank the games shown. (including ones we may have already seen or known)

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn:
This game was not only the best game shown IMO by a mile, it was a complete surprise. Firstly, I thought Guerilla's next game was quite a way off. More pressing, I was expecting it to be another installment in the Killzone franchise, a franchise that provides very little excitement for me. This game seems to perfectly pair stealth, survival and puzzle into one neat dino-filled package. What is not to like?

2. Sea of Thieves:
This game is another that I simply just was not expecting. Much as with Guerilla, I just didn't expect the game to be ready to be revealed, let alone to see (or should I say sea?) gameplay. The art direction immediately draws you in and you instantly see that iconic RARE style. This game sets you in a player inhabited world in which you can become the next dastardly pirate in the history books. It looks absolutely massive and the ability to scale both land and sea has me extremely excited.

3. Unravel:
This is a game that I think missed it's deserved chance in the spotlight. This game looks to be the perfect blend of platforming, puzzle solving and cuteness. I would describe it as Mario meets Limbo, (and spiderman?) and to my joy it takes the best qualities from both of those games. I truly have nothing but excitement for this game.

There are plenty of games which have me excited, and there are plenty of games to look forward to but these games stand out to me in a way that none of the other games did. Below are some of the other games that were close contenders:

Gears 4
Halo 5
Uncharted 4
Tomb Raider
FFVII remake (no matter how far off it may be)
Rare replay (for nostalgia's sake)
For Honor
Mirror's edge
Metal Gear Solid V
and of course Fallout 4

What games have you guys most excited?

Just give me Fallout 4 , food, drinks and about 6 months without anyone bothering me please.

It that too much too ask?
Wife, boss, family, friends, life says no :(

Cannot win them all.

Good article Nick, I like your choices and honesty in explaining them with a fanboy rant in sight. Truly refreshing for a blog here.

hopefully VRR via a firmware update is released for docked play as well (like the PS5 did post release)

There's actually a pretty long list of games on PS5 that support 120hz. Even more with 60+hz unlocked, and that isn't even counting PS5 Pro.

err...is it even HDMI 2.1 on that thing?

repsahj4h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Yes, according to the dock teardown. It contains HDMI hardware chip of Realtek RTD2175N that supports 4K 120hz. And the HDMI included on the Switch 2 is HDMI 2.1.

I'm happy for Nintendo. Even though the Switch 2 has received so much hate just to bring it down, it hasn't won. Even though some are saying they'll boycott Nintendo, it hasn't affected sales. Especially now, with word of mouth that the system is good, demand for the Switch 2 will definitely increase more.

Profchaos8h ago

Yeah loud minorities that were not going to buy it anyway

Profchaos8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

But But the internet told me the switch 2 was going to be a failure.

Such a good system im having a blast with it and really enjoying my first ever playthrough of yakuza 0

Sold through or to the stores? Asking because they're tons of them at my local Best Buy. When the PS5 and Series consoles launched, you couldn't find them anywhere.

OtterX5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

The article clearly says sold. If it were shipped, it would say shipped.

Nintendo had been saying the last year or so that they would be flooding stock so that scalpers would not be an issue. They've followed through with their word. It's not cutting edge tech, so it's been easier for them to sit on stock for a while until it accumulated to a massive number available to be shipped.

Good for them, I'm still not buying.
Looks to be a pretty safe and boring upgrade over Switch 1 which I don't think they can top it on how plain looking it is design wise.
Shame since Switch Lite showed they still know how to make a handheld that looks good and is actually portable in a classic Nintendo sense.
That's why I got one over Switch 2's block of charcoal.
Then there's the prices of it all and the whole Key card thing destroyed any sense of game ownership.

Profchaos5h ago

There'll be a number of revisions for the s2 like a s2 lite or oled also seems inevitable

Good-Smurf4h ago

Unless they drop the prices and actually has a more portable variant that can also dock then maybe I'll reconsider but as of now, nope too big too boring and expensive to make it worth this early, not enough of its own games atm as well.

Profchaos4h ago

Who knows removing the dock capabilities would lower the cost of the unit pretty significantly.

The cost of the dock, reduction in shipping costs etc bug savings which will enable a cheaper system
