GTA V and Mental Illness

So I have heard that violent video games make you a violent person. That they are to blame for all the horrible things that happen in the states. From mass shootings to homicides.

I am an ex Marine with diagnosed PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder) and Schizophrenia. And I am a very big gamer. What I go through in my life can be a hard thing to deal with at times and I do use games to escape reallity. In all honesty I am the type of person who should be on a list for not purchasing certain games the same way you are put on a list for not purchasing a weapon. This is where the government needs to get involved. Any mental illness should be tracked and recorded by the government. Without the proper treatment that I get from the VA Medical center God knows where I would be. But I see my doctors and take my meds and my condition is very controlable.

GTA V was recently released and the violence has been ratcheted up and on que it has come with some controversy, and the type of game related to violence. And the news outlets once again miss the mark with their coverage. Our society needs to start turning their attention to mental illness. We need to stop turning a blind eye to it. There are many ways to get help for mental illness but not alot of people know about these places or don't have access. Bottom line, Mental Illnes needs to have a spot light put on it. And society needs to stop pretending that it does not exsist and blaming video games.

So do Violent games make me want to go out and start mowing down pedestrians? Simply put, no. But do violent games make violent people go out and do it. I don't know for sure but I would put my money on the fact that it may push them just a little further. I am writing this to shine a light on mental illness. So what do you think, should video games be controled like guns when it comes to mental illness?

Good Blog a bit short but good. I also am a former marine my family wonders if I to don't have PTSD, but any way what you say is kinda true to a degree. But the down fall is there would always be a way to get the game even with mental illness. The only problem I see with that is the possibility of giving the gov. the ability to start micro-managing game sales starts with something reasonable and understandable then it gets taken to absurd measures. Also I don't think violent video games make people violent I think that it gives them ideas and they assume they can pull off what they did in a video game.

This was recently discussed on Fox News. I think increased awareness, acceptance and help for mental illness are all worthy goals.

I do disagree with having any government entity regulate what kind of media we can consume, that's too nanny state for me. So yes, PTSD victims may find that it's best for them if they steer clear of shooters. There are studies that show that RPGs pose certain risks to the development of children on the Autism spectrum. Of course, there are different types of PTSD, and not all cases are the result of combat situations.

So there are examples out there of unideal combinations, but regulating what media those with mental illness can consume will only further stigmatize sufferers.

CTA Warns Trump Tariffs Could See Console Prices Rising By As Much As 69% In US

PSU writes: "Back in January, the CTA published a report by the Trade Partnership Worldwide LLC (TPW) that looked at the potential impact of Trump’s tariffs based on his campaign progress. As the tariffs have now been imposed, the CTA has issued an updated version of the report that accesses their actual impact, and focuses on video game consoles, laptops, smartphones, and more."

PC and torrenting go hand in hand lol I will not be the one buying a Switch 2 then, probably will pass on the preorder notice from Nintendo if I receive it, because I am not paying $70, $80 or even $90 for a game if prices increase. This Orange shit bag thinks he can tariff digital goods, what a dumb ass, we can get games, movies, tv shows, etc for free try again lol.

This would be a good reason to go PC. We'll see.

I don't understand because are PC part prices gonna just rise too? The best outcome for gamers is to see the tariffs rescinded and quickly before the increase take hold.

All you PC dirtbags that steal digital goods.......your day will soon be coming too. I have no problem with the hammer coming down on these foreign based companies. They need to start moving their production facilities and jobs to this country and producing their goods in this country, which will happen when no one buys their products anymore.

Don't forget movies, tv shows, music etc. We can all torrent. How can the orange idiot do anything about that lol. Take down one torrent site, there are others in it's place, hundreds. It's like a weed remove one more pop up. Also there is the old school way of pirating, Usenet which has been around since the early 80s.
