The Fanboy Excuse

One thing I have noticed becoming more and more popular on this site is the use of the term "fanboy" in discussions.  People use it as if it gives them some kind of higher human authority because they have deemed themselves a righteous non-fanboy and the other person ignorant.

We need to get this straight right now.  Calling someone a fanboy does not give you an automatic win in a conversation.  In fact, it just makes you look dumb and unable to back yourself up with facts or good explanations.  90% of the time fanboy is used on here simply when somone disagrees with someone else and can not think of anything better to say.  In fact, I think fanboys are one that use the term the most.  This is not to say they do not exist, but just ignore them!

Look, if you do not have something good to say or can not back up your point, just don't say anything at all.  These personal attack post where people just call each other names is just getting old.  Can't we all just grow up.

I just had to get that off my chest because I have been really dissapointed with the attacking and low quality converstaions that have been happening here lately.  Respect each other, we are all gamers.

Concerning fanboys and their ignorance:

"The Argument from Intimidation is a confession of intellectual impotence."
--Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982), The Virtue of Selfishness, 1964

"The thing I hate about an argument is that it always interrupts a discussion."
--G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

"No matter what side of the argument you are on, you always find people on your side that you wish were on the other."
--Jascha Heifetz (1901 - 1987)

And my favorite:

"It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument."
--William G. McAdoo (1863 - 1941)

Your posts are often sensible and rational, without fanboy rhetoric. I think that's why you have 9 ignores. :)

It was one reason why I "left" N4G for a few months. I got tired of seeing comparison videos this and which version sucks articles that it drove me crazy. Most of these people here aren't even fanboys they are just people trying to stir up arguements for no apparent reason.

Just don't let it affect you that much and know that there are people on here who do like discussions and try not to take everything seriously.. This is a gaming site after all.
