N4G Bubbles system...

Greeting again,

I've been trying to understand this system and I can't seem to put my finger on it for the life of me.

How do you have such inferior points, have a high number of ignores and no tracking but have 10 bubbles. This is very common with people that spew a lot of nonsense towards one system and bias vs an other.

Shouldn't the ignores affect your bubbles? I mean tracking should cancel out the ignores and the more ignores you then you get less bubbles and if it is the positive then you get more bubbles.

I don't see how you trash talk enough to get people to click on the ignore and yet you have high enough bubbles to allow you to keep on going. All the current system does is make it that people doesn't have to see what you're saying .

Maybe it makes sense or doesn't, but I don't see how someone has over 50 to 100 ignores & 10 or so much tracking but has 10 bubbles. Doesn't that seem odd?

Tachyon_Nova5766d ago

But the thing is, saying something about a popular PS3 game, no matter how factual, gets you ignores if its negative. Its much easier to get ignored than tracked...

JD_Shadow5765d ago

And therein lies part of the problem: people thinking that there's some conspieracy.

Thing is, those who troll on the 360 side get called out and get a consequence, then the trolls don't get the lesson and just scream that it's some conspieracy by the PS3 fanboys that disallow them to troll. It's as if they think they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, whoever doesn't agree with them is a PS3 fanboy, but the second they consider someone else that isn't on their side "trolling", they go and report the living HELL out of them. It's like they think they are above the site for some reason.

I wonder: why DO you think there's some conspieracy going on? I would love to hear the reason for the suspicion.

^^^The thing that strikes me about complaints like these is that you assume it's a one-sided effort.

To the blog: The bubble system is not so bad.

I'm surprised I have as many bubbles as I do. All I do here is speak my honest piece about the facts whether it's a complaint about a popular series (like GoW or Halo) or recognizing when an unpopular company like MS has a good idea. Or if a popular company like Sony has a terrible one, regardless of who else is commenting. Of course it helps to be civil about it.

Ignores are great and should not affect the bubble system at all. Ignoring allows you to do for yourself what debubbling would take a community to accomplish. And furthermore, it protects the speaker. There's no guarantee that just because YOU ignore someone everyone else should or even wants to.

Anon19745765d ago (Edited 5765d ago )

I don't think ignores should tied into the bubble system. You don't just get ignored because you trash talk, you get ignored if you have an opinion.

Plenty of posters around here are children, plain and simply. They aren't mature enough to accept the fact that many will have different opinions then they do. Rather then debating a point they disagree with, which would require actual thought, it's much easier to just jam the ignore button and *PRESTO* you read only what you want to read and it's like everyone agrees with you, 100% of the time.

The ignore option is just a defense mechanism most of the time. I've got plenty of ignores, and I know it's not because I've been insulting to users, it's because when I disagree, I'll produce a counter argument.

Occasionally, mature posters will produce counter points and we can get a good back and forth going, which is what I love about posting, but more often, rather then make a counter argument, posters will just jam the disagree button, jam the bubbles down and then ignore. Many times I'm left scratching my head wondering why, what I consider is a valid point, has 20 disagrees without a soul brave enough to explain why they disagree.

Even as a PS3 fan I have to whole-heartedly agree with post #1

There are several problems with the bubble system.

1. Trash talkers that support each other will continue to grow in bubble by clicking the positive feedback button.
2. The mods are not interested in moderating the place, they are probably some of the same people that you see talking smack.
3. It's easier to loose bubbles than it is to get them back.
4. If you say ANY thing negative or possitive about a certain system on this site you we be either greatly rewarded or terribly punished. Just note the comments being made by the people with 7-10 bubbles and you will find that 80% or more of them spew out negative or bias comments on a regular basis.

This site is actually better served by getting rid of the bubble gain reduction system and give everyone 5 bubbles and that's all you get. this will prevent people from commenting too much in a thread while prevent others from dominating the conversation.

But as I was saying earlier, the Mods don't care. A friend of mine was banded to the open zone last week for arguing with someone in the gamer zone. And although both had bad things to say to one another, only one of them were banned. (Can you say biased moderators? I can.)

Don't waste your breathe, they don't care.

bubble system is owned by multiple accounts arseholes

Anon19745765d ago

I've seen plenty of accounts where the user is so vile, so abusive and so ignorant they not only should have their bubbles stripped but should probably be enrolled in some sort of therapy but have 10 bubbles. You know they have to have multiple accounts.

If they acted that way in real life, half these clowns would be walking around with no teeth.

I, personally, make it a rule never to make a statement online that I wouldn't say to someone's face. The anonymity of the net really brings out the worst in some people.

Gun_Senshi5763d ago

i got reduced from 7 bubbles to 3 in 10 min for saying something against the mart...

Jinxstar5763d ago

If someone is that dedicated to log out/log on go to post take a bubble and keep going for long amounts of time... For the chance of taking bubs away... I don't know... Seems like WAAAAAAY too much work to a site you have no stake in...

TheIneffableBob5765d ago (Edited 5765d ago )

The system is stupid and it really doesn't work that well for what it's intended to do.

Sanzee5764d ago

People take advantage of it. Plus there's no balance here on N4G anymore.

Tomonobu Itagaki5764d ago

Two examples: myself and Omega4.
We both deliberately troll on N4G in a more or less subtle way. We make on purpose to highlight most of real trolls behaviors. What do i get? 8 bubbles. 8 bubbles. Check my comment list, i mostly say hard truth, the one that no one wants to admit and must disagree, even if it's right.

In Omega4's case, he posts flamish comments but with so much sarcasm we believe he thinks what he says. He shows obvious Xbox 360 troll behaviors but still have his 5 bubbles. But how can it be, as everything he says is only a turd in a casket?

And finally, the bonus example: HipHopGamer. Seriously, that guy makes me laugh every time he says something. Most of his articles are garbage and his comments are, when he doesn't complain about the hatred around him, in the same quality. But still, every of his article gets approved within 5 minutes (while it takes hours for other people articles) and he has 10 bubbles.

How is it possible?
In my case, i don't have a clue. I tend to believe that there are more clever people on N4G than i though, or that they love when i hurt with the truth. What a bunch of masochists.

In Omega4's case, he certainly has several accounts (like GiantEnemyCrab) and when he loses a bubble, he uses his other accounts to take it back. No more, no less.

In HHG's case, that guy is followed by a bunch of groupies that gives him bubbles because he is their master and that approve his stories. When you see HHG's articles approval list, you'll always see a bunch of beginner contributors, never by Catastrophe or JamieSI. He is like the prophet of a sect.

N4G's bubble system is absolutely not fair but that's the only possible.

Hellsvacancy5764d ago

Bubble 2 u 4 admitin your a troll lol

evrfighter5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

you should have compared yourself to JoY. He is a 360 owner yet doesn't come off as an outlandish fanboy. He does the same thing you do for the 360 side yet only has 2 bubbles.

Me I dislike consoles. I don't ever expect to have more than 5 bubbles. The only time I care about bubbles is when I'm on my 4th post. As far as agrees and disagrees go. I can care less. They don't reflect my opinion or post count in any way.

360FTW25762d ago (Edited 5762d ago )

I'd like to know your theory on how Morganfell continues to have a high number of bubbles. Oh please explain. This guy probably teaches trolling classes in his spare time.

I had a disturbing thing happen to me in the past, someone actually PM me as asked me to help them remove someone's bubbles. Now imagine if they do this to lots of people and get a lot of people to agree. As for the guy above that said he lost 4 bubbles in 10 minutes, this is probably what happened to you. A childish coordinated attack.

Saaking, is another person that talks too much sh!t to have the number of bubbles he has. But he's being supports by his buddies (you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours; right saaking?)

KingME5762d ago (Edited 5762d ago )

I noticed you had 3 bubbles before making your last comment. I see exactly what you mean. Do the mods see it?

You must be on to something there with the coordinated attack thing.

A certain group of indivuals, actually a certain group of individuals who support a certian next-gen console seem to have multiple accounts so as to add bubbles back to their accounts after people have taken them away. Obviously many users which support the PS3 don't do this, but many do. Same goes for the Xbox 360 fanbase, though PS3 supporters occupy N4G for the most part now days. This allows them to say all the crap they want, no matter how degenerate (or pathetic actually) it makes them. Unfortunately, N4G is now more tipped in the favor of a certain console fanbase as their are more users which support that console then there are its rival. Users who support the Xbox 360 seem to have all left N4G after discovering how one small anti-PS3 comment can get all their bubbles taken away like THAT (snaps fingers). Again this also applies to Xbox 360 supporters, but they are few in number these days since RRoD articles seem to flood N4G every day. I suppose it's time I retire my account as well. I feel like a democrat during the Bush Administration.
