The triple A games

**Warning long unbiased read ahead, attempt at your own risk***

I think everybody can accept the fact that AAA games come out on all systems. Regardless of power, novelty items, or brand name.
So what does that leave to distinguish our beloved console beasts.
That leaves the power and novelty items of course. The giga and teraflops, the motion doodads, online features, and the lovely platform exclusive games we all enjoy.

I'll take a moment here in the middle of my rambling to say this. I own only one console, for various reason I'm not going to venture out and get either of the other two. And believe you me opportunities to have an xbox or a wii in my home have been plentiful. I however am a strictly monogamous playstation 3 owner. Call me a fanboy or whatever it's no problem of mine.
I've enjoyed playing wii games at friends houses, I've heard and examined the bountiful harvest of the xbox.

My reason for not owning one is a strict disdain for the corporate giant M$. Far be it for me not to hold against them their censoring and overpricing ways. I was ruined for microsoft products long before the original xbox was a twinkling in some executives wallet.
Now I did give them a try once back in the day, I tried playing the halo, but found it to be against the grain of my tastes.

My reasons for not owning the other are much less convoluted. I simply don't own a wii because there are less games I want for it. Also the rare games I do want to play on it I can dip my toes into at a chums house.

Now what did I start jabbering about in the beginning. Oh yes I was going to extol the virtues of platform exclusives and the importance of one console being faster than others.
Like I started to say, any console can have triple A games. The things that keep them apart are the tall electric fences of copyright.
If those fences came down you could say that any console could have super mario galaxy 2 on it. That I'm sure is easy to agree with. Especially with the incoming motion controls for the remaining two systems without.
You would probably be hard pressed to get alan wake running on a wii however. At least without a substantial drop in all things graphic related. The same can be said as you move up the chain of power. The gameplay would work but try getting an xbox to produce god of war style graphics without melting something.

Which brings me to the simple statement. The ps3 has the most power and can run any exclusive game the other consoles can put out. Not that we'll ever see such a thing, or that it would in any way be a good idea for mario or halo to go multi platform these are just the facts.

Now for the tail end of whats on my mind I'll say this. 99% of multiplatform games would be better off being exclusive to one system or another. They don't go multiplatform for artistic reasons they do it strictly for the dollars.

It's a bone of contention for many that final fantasy 13 seemed to be missing pieces. Though it seems to have been confirmed that they cut out nearly half the game. For reasons many choose not to speculate. What is unspoken by many though is widely known, stuff was cut to fit it on two dvd's. That's it. I'm not saying they ruined the game, but they did neuter it quite severely. The imaginations of fanboys run wild of what could have been had square ran wild and open on a bluray disc, or might I say even two.

Other games seem to suffer less on the xbox and instead of being rendered down and cut to bits they shine. They shine more than they do on the ps3.
May I introduce red dead redemption. Many call it game of the year, though we only be part way into a year full of game of the year contenders.
Unfortunately rockstar was apparently struck with some nasty amount of being lazy with their ps3 port. Their is obviously no reason it should not have equal or better graphics than the xbox version.
Even worse though is something that seems to plague half or more of multi platform games. Bugs, bugs and glitches galore. I know, people are constantly telling me their not game breaking, which their obviously not. Others even say their just funny LOLOL. But of course such humour and defending is not apparent in console exclusives. Not at all as far as I've seen. Since I only own a ps3 I assume this is true of all systems.

Now hear this. If all the great game developers had just chosen a side and said this is where we stand. This is the system we will develop for.
The other system, I'm pretty much just comparing the two now (xbox and ps3), probably would have ended up dead in the water. If rockstar had decided not to bring gta4 to the xbox it would have seriously damaged it's sales in years past.
You can deny that if you want but it's a fact, grand theft auto has some serious clout in that department.
The same could be said if they had just switched to xbox and ditched sony's system. The ps3 would have taken a very substantial hit. The console wars as we know them now would be less of a war and more of a... Well you remember the dreamcast.

Now I don't have any problem with games being on multiple systems, what I have a problem with is bugs, glitches, and missing pieces in my games.
If I'm going to play a game and enjoy it I don't want it freezing up because a bunch of programmers where overworked and had to learn to code multiple machines.
I don't want to be playing through a story and feel as though I've been not paying attention for hours. Ideally every game could be an assassins creed and be A+ on all systems involved. If that means actually making two separate games under the same IP so be it, if that means working a bin harder and taking a bit longer again so be it.

I apologize for the long read. I will summarize the whole rant with saying. The ps3 is the most powerful of the three consoles. All three make great exclusive games, which I honestly would be glad for the most part (I really don't like halo) to see on my ps3. Many multi platform games have great and excellent gameplay and mechanics but often suffer by being multi platform. They would be better games if they were exclusive to one console or another.
It'll never happen but that's the way it is.

Thanks for your time.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai8h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken8h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye6h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken4h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno3h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

porkChop1h ago

The disagrees are from people who have common sense. They aren't trying to kill mods. Most mods for any game will break with a new update because they rely on files/code that have been changed. This isn't new. Even with Bethesda this would happen way before the creation club. Mod support is literally one of the things that got Bethesda to where they are, and they're one of the only devs that releases comprehensive mod tools for each of their games.

Chocoburger2h ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.

Aussiesummer1h ago

It's not a remaster, it's a next gen update.

badz1491h ago

LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?

Profchaos41m ago(Edited 40m ago)

The ps5 version doesn't change a ton but from my small playtime it's enough to make me want to replay it just to have it running at 60.

A side note to this my PS4 version no longer boots after it's "update" so I guess that's what it feels like to own a Bethesda game on PC

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein7h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno3h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k42h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson1h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu2h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson1h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -

Hopefully Microsoft will go back to the original story line and get away from that woke nonsense from the last Gears game Gears of Woke! But were talking about Microsoft so all the betting money is on more of the same woke nonsense.

Sciurus_vulgaris46m ago

The Locust trilogy concluded with Gears of War 3. I don’t get how Gears 4 and 5 are “woke” .
