The sickness of n4g part 1

I've been here since 2010 maybe for some of you that isn't very long but for me it's long enough to observe n4g has a problem. I've encountered my share of fanboys on both sides from various gaming websites usually it's 3 or 4 people and there are enough level-headed posters to shun them out or realize their arguments are rather silly, n4g on the other hand is the opposite.

N4g is what happens when those few become the majority and the level-headed become the minority. A site were some of the members believe one company to be the next messiah while the other is the devil incarnate. This is typically not a problem because usually their are equal amounts of fanboys on both sides to even it out so you hardly notice. Here it's a Sony paradise, for awhile I enjoyed the never-ending positive Sony love-fest. Traveling to other sites you would often hear negative things like Sony isn't doing well or they have to close Business A.

N4G would take the negative and typically give it a positive spin. The overwhelming amount of comments that painted a different picture then reality was somewhat reassuring. The problem started when you ventured out of the Sony love-fest into Nintendo or Microsoft land. The usual positive outlook was gone and what filled the comments were hateful and judging comments about anyone who choose to purchase the console. no one should be insulted because they made a choice different from someone else.

The justification I hear for this blatant disrespect is "well you should have been here back in 06." So your punishing future users and new potential members because of treatment endured years ago? It's become a place where those who don't pick to partake in the love-fest are de-bubbled and pushed out.

I'm going to stop it here for now, in the next blog i'll talk about the submission process and how flawed it is.

True, the revenge mentality for what happened back in 06 is a little silly. How about we all grow up and stop this altogether? Nice little article. Even if I didn't agree with it, it is obvious to see that this is not "trolling" and is actually a decent commentary on the N4G community.

I generally don't mind the comments, though it sucks when I get a lot of disagrees over stupid stuff. Like, I remember when TLOU had the whole "the numbers went to phone *** lines" thing and I said something like "They could have avoided this fiasco by calling the numbers first" and I got something like 0 agrees and 40+ disagrees. Wasn't negative, didn't call anyone out and I doubt those users were actually implying that this would have happened regardless of them verifying the information, but I still got 40+ disagrees because it was ND / TLOU and my post wasn't praising them.

However, I do mind when I see slanted articles. I assume your next post will discuss how a lot of sites will slant news / events / information to be more favorable to Sony and then slap it on N4G. I think one of the best examples is the whole CoD vs Killzone vs TitanFall thing.

Back when the beta for TitanFall started, Amazon sent out $20 off CoD coupons, which resulted in an article titled something like "Amazon Sends Out Call of Duty Coupon to Distract Gamers from TItanFall beta". Even got approved with that title, even though it was pure flame bait. Yesterday I also saw an editorial about how the CoD sale is due to Activision being afraid of Titanfall. No substance, but I found it interesting how people were calling out CoD this for, but left Killzone alone.

While I don't think it matters, you could just as easily make a case that Sony is trying to distract gamers from Titanfall with Killzone. The new map pack released this week, along with the free week of multiplayer and a few places had it on sale too. I don't think any of this is exactly substantial and really matters, though it's interesting how a few sites will go the CoD route, but not the Killzone route.

Forgot to comment when I saw this in pending.

I can certainly understand the frustration from the sort of hate that gets thrown around (which I'll admit to failing to see and deal with it on some occasions). I'll certainly try harder on my end.

"The justification I hear for this blatant disrespect is 'well you should have been here back in 06.' So your punishing future users and new potential members because of treatment endured years ago?"

That's about as lazy as it gets when it comes to justifications. Holding those kinds of grudges (that are probably exaggerated in regards to time and severity) are so pointless.
