Opinion: Best Console Exclusives This Generation (So Far)

There is no doubt a slew of potentially great exclusives are coming out in the upcoming months; however, I wanted to touch upon some of the games released over the last few years. Please note: the games I am going to list are games I have personally played and beaten and there will be some games that will not appear on this list simply because I haven't gotten around to them yet. I plan to soon once my get more money and time but for now, I will say what I, personally, think are the best ones this generation so far.

3DS
-Fire Emblem Awakening: what was Nintendo's last attempt at creating a Fire Emblem game payed off in the end. I was hooked on this game immediately. Great story, great characters, and of course, great gameplay.
- Pokemon X/Y: New region, new Pokemon, new mechanics, more fun. My friends and I really enjoyed playing this game together. Although it is a little on the short side, I still found it to have that same Pokemon charm present in previous installments

Playstation Vita
- Killzone: Mercenary: Shooters on handheld devices never played well. Without a right analog stick, aiming for a pain and it was never really fun. Killzone: Mercenary showed us that shooters can work on handheld and they succeeded. Story was okay but gameplay is what matters in a video game and the gameplay was amazing.
- Tearaway: Such an interesting concept for a new IP that utilizes the Vita's features pretty well. From having my face on display to enjoying the charm of the silent protagonist, it's definitely a game worth playing for that good old 3D platforming

Wii U
- Super Mario 3D World: I remember this game getting a lot of negativity early on for not being a true 3D Mario game; however, when the game released, it showed people how a 4 player Mario 2D/3D game can work like a charm. Playing by yourself is still loads of fun; however, get 3 more people and watch things get chaotically fun.
- Bayonetta 2: Talking about early negativity, this game received loads of it when it was announced as a Wii U exclusive. The end product though showed us Platinum at their best. Crazy fast-paced gameplay with great characters showed other companies who turned down the game that a Bayonetta sequel was well worth it.

Xbox One
- Forza Horizon 2: Such a great open-world racer. Lots of cars to choose from along with a good soundtrack and great controls, racing fans are in for a treat. The sequel is just around the corner and, hopefully, it will surpass the second one.
- Ori and the Blind Forest: Yes this is on PC; however, this is an opinion piece of console exclusives so yeah. Anyways, great platforming, great narrative, great soundtrack, and great visuals. This game can be pretty unforgiving at parts but once you get past the hurdles, its loads of fun

PlayStation 4
- Bloodborne: Seriously, this game is amazing and I can't recommend it enough. Great setting, great controls, great creatures, you name it. Definitely a game all PS4 owners should get.
- Infamous Second Son: Surprisingly, this game had a touching story. Sucker Punch made one of the best non-superhero superhero games. The powers were amazing to use and the ability to choose good or evil made the game more chaotic a second time around.

So here's my list; I kept it to two a system for now. Yes, there are games on here people may disagree with; however, if you have any recommendations, please let me know cause I would love to play more.
Also, people will also notice there are games missing that are universally praised on a console but as stated earlier, I have yet to get to them but plan to once I have more time on my hands(which is basically 4-5 months from now). Game on.

Halo 5: Loved the campaign (4player coop), MP shines, specifically warzones, constant flow of DLC.

DeadRising 3: Love the tone of the game, incredible customization, surviving the zombie infestation. Overall, lots of fun.

Notable mentions Quantum Break, Gears of War UE, Forza Motorsport 5 and KillerInstinct.

I have played Halo 5: Great multiplayer but campaign was a little lackluster in my opinion. Easiest Halo game on Legendary by far.
Dead Rising 3 was lots of fun and I am impatiently waiting for 4 to come out. 4 player co-op is going to be crazy.
I have also played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition; however, I wanted to leave out remasters on my list.
I have also played Forza Motorsport 5 and 6 but I prefer the Horizon series. Still a great series nonetheless, it's just not my preference.
I have yet to play Quantum Break or Killer Instinct(at least not since the SNES version) but they have been on my list for awhile now and I will get to them eventually.

Each title I played offered a great amount of fun. Additionally, I mentioned two of my favorites for the overall experience. The notable mentions were to give credit to more fantastic games.

I would have to say that the game I had the most fun in and laughs was Tearaway! Mm has some of the most creative people on their team. While Super Smash has been my go to with my brothers.

I've really enjoyed a good number of exclusives on all consoles. For me though, the PS4 has taken the cake with all of the games this gen. In terms of 3rd party though...GTA has taken up a lot of time on my Xbox with my buds!

CocoaBrother3203d ago

Yeah Tearaway really intrigued me. When I first got my Vita, it was the first game I went out to buy and I loved it.

My family and friends and I love playing Smash Bros. I recommend Runbow if you are looking for some more multiplayer fun on the Wii U.

I haven't really played GTAV Online but I did play through the campaign on my PS4 and thought it was great. I have a copy on my Xbox One as well and my friends on there want me to join them online but, sadly, time constraints are hitting me hard for quite awhile. Maybe one day though

Just started playing xbox exclusives but I'm sure all companies have had good games. Im impressed with what I have played on xbox so far.

CocoaBrother3203d ago

I recommend Forza Horizon 2 if you want a nice racer. The 3rd one comes out at the end of the month so maybe just wait and grab that one.
Halo 5's multiplayer brings back the fun from Halo 3's multiplayer days so if you are big on online gaming, go for Halo 5.

I'm getting halo 5 today and forza horizon 3 is my most anticipated title this year it just looks brilliant. I played forza horizon 2 alot it is my favourite racer.

I haven't gotten around to it yet due to financial reasons. Over the last 2-3 months, I have gotten through Uncharted 1-3 and Golden Abyss in preparation of 4 though. Once I get money, I'll be sure to get the game.

DefenderOfDoom23201d ago

Well, i only own a PS4 . My favorite exclusive that i actually played is RESOGUN ! Why, well i loved playing the arcade cabinet DEFENDER back in the early 80's so much i included the name in my N4G name tag 'DefenderOfDoom2' . The developers of RESOGUN did a excellent job in keeping in the spirit of original DEFENDER .

CocoaBrother3201d ago

I played Resogun on my Vita and I loved it(got myself the platinum). Those old style arcade games are my favorites. Ever try out Velocity Ultra or Velocity 2x? They are fun, fast paced, arcade-like games and the developers did a great job.

DefenderOfDoom23201d ago (Edited 3201d ago )

I have not played Velocity Ultra or Velocity 2X yet, but will buy Velocity 2X next time it goes on sale for PS4 . Another pretty good arcade style game i really enjoyed is RACE THE SUN . I am currently enjoying ULTRATRON which is a updated version of the early 80's arcade cabinet ROBOTRON which was made by same developers of the arcade cabinet DEFENDER .
