Contest: Enter to Win one of five $100 Amazon Gift Cards

Hello everyone.

I was going to do a "Treasure Hunt" contest this month, but I've instead decided to do something a little different because of the recent discussions on N4G that arose for the recent PewDiePie item as well as it's just a good time to do it since the new site is in full use and people have had more time to think about it and what they do or don't like.

So, here's the other half of the contest for July:

THE SURVEY CONTEST

This is a pretty simple contest. You must PM me, Christopher, via http://n4g.com/user/home/ch... , the responses to each of the True/False questions below. This contest is open to all users who are not employees of HAVAMedia and have an account that was open before January 1, 2016. You must provide a valid True or False answer to each question. Closing date on this contest is 11:59 pm EDT, July 31, 2016.

From the pool of acceptable responses, 5 random winners will be selected. Each winner will get a $100 Amazon Gift Card.

THE QUESTIONS

1. I browse N4G using a mobile device most of the time, True or False?
2. I like the new site layout/design more than the old one, True or False?
3. I come to N4G because I think it's a good place to get video game news, True or False?
4. I come to N4G to discuss video game news and interests with other N4G users, True or False?
5. If I have a problem, I know how to contact the moderators about it, True or False?
6. I would like the ability to filter out content on the front page of N4G by type of content (opinion pieces, rumors, etc.), True or False?
7. I would like the ability to filter out content on the front page of N4G from a specific source (IGN, Kotaku, etc.), True or False?
8. I think N4G should temporarily or permanently ban sites for misleading titles/content, True or False?
9. I think N4G should temporarily or permanently ban sites for clickbait titles, True or False?
10. I think N4G should allow submissions about all forms of GamerGate, both pro and anti, and similar Social Issues, True or False?

Some Terms and Conditions:
1. Competition is open to all N4G users, except for employees of HAVAmedia and immediate relatives, who have a valid N4G account before January 1, 2016. Contests are not limited to the US/NA. Note: Moderators do not receive remuneration, are not employees of HAVAmedia, and are eligible for N4G monthly contests.
2. The closing date for all contests is 11:59 PM EDT 31 July 2016.
3. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, N4G/HAVAmedia reserves the right to substitute the prizes for alternatives of equal or greater value.
4. Prizes are not transferable.
5. The winners of the competition will be notified by N4G ticket on or before August 7, 2016.
6. Failure to reply to ticket notification within seven (7) days may result in forfeiture of a prize.
7. All N4G TOU apply and may affect eligibility.
8. Lottery style winners are chosen at random from eligible entries. Spam or multiple accounts will result in disqualification.
9. All prizes are in USD, where prizes are awarded to winners outside the USD the exchange rate at the time of prize issue will affect prize amount.
10. This contest falls outside of the normal "may only win one contest a month" series of contests and so may be won by someone who also won one of the monthly contests.

That's a fun contest and some very pertinent questions about behaviors seen around N4G.

Overall good questions but some of them are a bit silly to me. Like the ones asking about trolling and name-calling. If that gets allowed in the comment N4G would turn into a fanboy warzone. However if you were to have one comment section thats modded and another one that isn't modded as heavily I would be OK with that.

You mention GamerGate in one of the True/False Questions

You say at the bottom "The results will be passed onto HAVAMedia"

Why do you need permission from HAVAMedia for GamerGate if this WAS to pass?

I understand trolling, personal attacks and other things which were linked to the old "bubble system" which they created on here but GamerGate wasn't one of them

It's kind of coming across that HAVAMedia were the ones who stopped us from posting GG articles on here but why? What for? What do they care?

It dosen't go against them or the mods, I'm not complaining or posting my answers, I'm just asking a question.

This is about gauging user interest on many levels. I created the questions and that was one I wanted to gauge. Not all of them are for HAVA, but I'll pass it on nonetheless. My purpose of passing on this info to HAVA is to let you know that this won't just sit here and be voiceless, but that my goal is to also let HAVA know what you guys want when it comes to features and the direction of the site.

Simple as that.

Nope. Cat nor I own or have ever owned N4G or any of its sister sites. All related sites are owned and have always been owned by HAVAMedia out of Norway. Cat, and now myself, were hired to manage the site and all of its functions while coordinating with the team in Norway.

If it's like...

"God damn it Capcom, what the f*** are they doing?" where we are swearing towards something in the article or even something like "Man I got one of these collectors editions they are f******* sweet" about a product then it's fair enough

If it's like

"UserX is such a f******* prick" where it's in the personal attack way then no it shouldn't be allowed.

Technically we already do allow cursing, just at the PG-13 FCC level. It's implied that he's talking about the former example. Name-calling is clearly a no-no, evidenced by less-harsh words getting others punished before, so of course nastier words wouldn't be allowed either.

I love the true and false idea. I would also like open ended answers too because it would give us reason for our answers and potentially offer some guidance/advice, but nevertheless its awesome you are asking for our support

I wish GG + Social Issues were split up or more nuance than this presented question. By an easygoing standard like this, simple twitter tantrums or unnecessary BS like tying GG to Trump (b/c clicks) could pass. Just something to consider.

I wish people would accept the decisions I make instead of assuming it's out of bias, but that's not how the world works. Every action I make can turn into a week-long argument even when clear and precise rules are laid out before someone. With regard to GamerGate and similar Social Issues, it could turn into a parade of hatred and claims of either misogyny or anti-censorship across the Web, and that's with the rules we have now being pretty clear on what is and what isn't allowed.

So, it's much easier to have an all or nothing goal if we do reverse the decision and let the community decide from there.

A suggestion. From the next survey (if it happens), please do choose the winners based on their honest contribution to the survey by reviewing whether their answers were contributing to the purpose of the survey. This is just a true or false survey and I'm pretty 100% sure that nobody who typed out a lengthy response with objective reasoning are gonna win because the selection is random. But if the prerequisites are based on the answer's merits and how it helped the survey starter in fulfilling their original intent, i.e. making this community better in this case, then you will be able to get a LOT of more genuine answers and suggestions which you can filter out, than just a true or false survey.

Also, I typed out a very long PM but can't send the answers at all because it far exceed the 2000 character limit. Is there a way to increase characters in PM? That would be great in these situations.

You can send more than one reply to a PM. So, PM your first part then go to your inbox -> Sent mail -> click the PM you just sent, add a new reply with the rest of your text.

As far as 'quality' of replies, I don't do that because then it opens the door to my bias of what I want to hear and not what people want to tell me. People who have thoughts about the site can always PM me, no contest required.

The trolling question is a little more complicated than a simple T/F.

If we had an open zone, I'd say let trolls have their "zone". Otherwise no, though often this means people stealth trolling since trollers gonna troll, which is why I still am for Open Zone.

Nope. It's an all or nothing question. You know the open zone is never coming back better than almost anyone else.

The point is to gauge what people find acceptable in the comments section, not to go into the grey areas.

I understood your intention. It's a good idea to get a feel for how the vast majority of the community feels.

I just wanted to mention Open Zone as I never have failed to mention it whenever I can haha. Though it has become pretty clear on OZ isn't making a comeback.
