Still looks great on PS5. I just can’t bring myself to spend $699 for mid gen console. I’ll wait for PS6.

Neonridr1d 22h ago

The PS5 Pro has some nice things about it, but after using it since launch, I can easily say that the base PS5 is perfectly fine for the majority of players out there.

Tacoboto1d 14h ago

My window of opportunity came and went with the Days of Play sale. If it drops to $649 again, maybe I'll try again, but after loading up Death Stranding 2 last night on my base PS5...

Holy cow it looks fantastic. I don't even care about the Quality mode - 60fps looks great! If they add in a 40fps Balanced Mode I'll certainly try it out, but graphically DS2 is giving everything it needs to and I'm here for the journey ahead. Props to Kojima Productions and Guerrilla for delivering such quality.

RedDevils1d 10h ago

Like I said pro is big waste of money, when PS6 right around the corner.

andy8519h ago

If round the corner is another 3 years. I've got to play every game 'better'. I'll get far more of a resale value from the Pro than I will the base PS5. May be a waste of money for you but not for me

Neonridr18h ago

@andy85 - I can appreciate both sides of the coin. I just feel that many games out there don't show significant visual upgrades. Sure maybe you can get more consistent 60fps over 30 on the base mode (when comparing things like Quality modes), so you have to ask is that worth a $700 purchase?

Definitely not worth it at the moment, especially in the current economy. Better to save it for next generation.

CrimsonWing6921h ago

Yea, I don’t want to drop $700 and $80 on a disc drive just for subtle differences when the PS6 is freaking literally right around the corner and will offer this and more for… maybe $1000…

This hobby is getting cornholed with no lube and a sand paper condom by corporate decisions. I can’t even say console gaming is a cheaper alternative to PC gaming anymore.

andy8519h ago

I mean i agree with you its an expensive purchase but saying literally right around the corner when we have probably 3 years is a stretch 😂 I just got it because there will be a couple hundred resale value of the Pro over the base PS5 when PS6 is out so it cost barely anything for 4 years better gaming

Obscure_Observer18h ago

@andy85

"I mean i agree with you its an expensive purchase but saying literally right around the corner when we have probably 3 years is a stretch 😂"

Rumors are that Sony might rush the PS6 release for next if/in case MS decides and release the Xbox Next in 2026.

True or false remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Sony most definitely wouldn´t like Xbox to be ahead and capitalize over GT6´s launch.

Time will tell.

andy8515h ago

@Obscure. Doubt it, they aren't in competition anymore. Sony aren't rushing a PS6 out which would barely have any power increase over the Pro just because MS release a console. People don't want the higher powered X as it is so a more powerful one won't shift any market. Especially if its the 4 figure cost that would be needed to comfortably outperform the Pro. No ones buying that. Different markets now, they're just Gamepass machines and if you want Gamepass you have one already, hence the subscriber rate not increasing for years.

Obscure_Observer18h ago

"Still looks great on PS5."

And still has faster loading times.

Its nice to have if you have the cash. But honestly I think these mid gen upgrades should be CPU focused. Going from 10 TF to 16 is here nor there. And PSSR could still offer improvments even without that. As the gen goes on those CPUs are so poor and struggle. For example we're likely only getting 30 fps on GTA6. If it was a CPU focused upgrade that wouldn't be the case.

anast1d 14h ago

Great looking game all around.

Obscure_Observer18h ago

I´m waiting for a Hellblade 2 vs Death Stranding 2 graphics comparison on the PS5 to see how´s Decima in 2025 holds up against UE5 one year later.

jznrpg17h ago

Hellblade 2 is less game more tech Demo

anast13h ago

Hellblade 2 is a walking sim, but not as good as Detroit: Become Human. No real comparison here.

jznrpg18h ago

Love my Pro. My kids are more than happy with their PS5’s. Either way you can’t go wrong

I haven't seen any of the recent trailers since it's reveal years ago, but man, I just started playing and it's the first time my eyes were wide open and my jaw was agape, haven't had that since I started Demon's Souls at the PS5 launch. I'm just blown away by how amazing it looks on my 85" TV.

Aloymetal2d ago

Decima Engine is just amazing, so versatile and in my opinion, the best Sony engine. Also, and imho its own upscaling method is far better and cleaner/sharper and with less artifacts than Sony's PSSR. Kojima's dev team are treating and working with the engine as if it were their own showing an incredible talent and in some cases even surpassing Guerilla's dev team. Jaw dropping.

Hahaha, you have been all over these Death Stranding 2 posts Lukasmain, you are super pumped for sure😆

As a fellow fan of the 1st game (with the plat to prove it) I am super excited too and it's great to see the sequel is so expansive.

Glad you are enjoying it so much squire, I'll be picking it up once I get back from a family trip next week.

lukasmain2d ago

Sorry lol, I'll be pulling back now. It's like I was hungry as fk for this game and now I've satiated myself with a few hours in playing. Now I can relax hahaha

LoveSpuds2d ago

Ahhhh don't apologise mate, nice to see folks excited like this.

RaidenBlack2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I like these kind of interactions regarding games. All giddy and excited. But it only holds true for PS exclusives in N4G.
If somebody's excited for a non-PS exclusive here or rather an exclusive from the opposite camp, especially Green, it immediately gets frowned upon. I hate that notion here.
Games are games, let fans/gamers be excited about 'em.
Hate the corpo folks if you want.

pwnmaster30002d ago

Idk man expedition 33 is a very good contender. So far this, expedition33, and monster hunter wilds are the contenders.
We will see with ghost of yotei.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Decima engine at work. Horizon games look stellar too. Kojima and guerrilla games have been sharing information on how to improve the engine over the years. Next GG game will be stellar looking too

Kojima had visited all the 1st and 2nd party studios back in the day to select a engine and before leaving GG he was given engine code in a box and that's what he chose and they decided that in coming years they would share information to make improvements

This looks incredible! And it runs at solid 60fps to boot. Decima blows UE5 out of the water.

Obscure_Observer2d ago

No, it doesn´t. Guerrilla and Kojima made some serious improvements and DS2 does look amazing.

But it´s still PS4 tech in its the core.

Can´t match a true current gen engine like UE5 at all.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

P_Bomb2d ago

That game isn’t out yet. In practical applications, UE5 has disappointed me so far.

Hypertension1402d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@Obscure

Microsoft always likes to talk about their new tech, like its something revolutionary, and fanboys like you eat that shit up.

But in reality they are no better or worse than anyone else. I won't bother looking them up but i remember they had fancy terms for their SSD compression tech and their controller input lag tech. Idiots like you acted that they were more advanced than anyone else, but when they finally tested it against other consoles like the PS5, they turned out to be inferior.

So are you going to tell me that a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 is only using PS3 tech because Rockstar never really talks about using a new engine?

I don't blame Microsoft for always treating their fanbase like idiots. They always fall for it.

Ganif1d 22h ago

You know, software is modular right? Having a 5 at the end of the name doesn't have anything to do with the capability or quality of the software.

By far the best looking and most technically impressive game on consoles this gen has been HFW, and not only does it look great and have the best 3D audio it has the ability to do things like swim under the water while also being able to fly into the sky though fully simulated volumetric clouds. And has a draw distance that is is basically unlimited and rendered at extremely high quality and plays at a perfect 60 FPS.

UE5 factually can not in it's current state replicate what Decima did in that game. I can't wait to see what DS2 can do. That's the benefit of having a custom engine that you improve and modify over decades vs UE5 which still doesn't even have all it's promised features and needs to be a tool they can sell to as many people as possible and is simply designed as a tool to mass produce games.

Meanwhile Sandbox "hold my baguette"

I have no doubt Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 will be great games but they'll have to be something very special to top E33

jznrpg1d 16h ago (Edited 1d 16h ago )

Double post somehow

jznrpg1d 16h ago

E33 is a bit overrated. Great for the price but not as good as it’s hyped up to be imo

TheColbertinator21d ago

Don't know why. They both look like different games to me.
