Dexerto - "It’s such a shame that the key selling point of the Mario Kart Switch 2 game, its open world, falls a bit flat because pretty much everything else is so, so good. Ok, the lack of kart customization bothers me a little, but with a crazier cast of characters, fun items, and incredibly imaginative tracks, the racing is as good as it has ever been."

Mario Kart World is the next step in the successful Mario Kart franchise, and here's a review. Does it blow previous entries out of the water?
First new game in over a decade, a brand new system, can Mario kart carry the load?
Fair review. My biggest cons are the lacking free roam, as seems to be the biggest complaint, and the ballon battle mode.
As interesting as it is, there simply isn't enough to do in free roam, and the ballon battle mode areas are mostly housed in racing courses and not closed off arenas, like Skyscraper and Block Fort.
I've spent the last few days playing it a lot. My biggest issue is, I was an inward drifter and they got rid of it, for no real reason at all. And the drifting feels unsatisfying, clunkier and more floaty compared to 8 for me personally, it doesn't feel as tight and responsive. I've gotten more used to it and I am enjoying it, but Mario Kart 8 is just more fun to play imo.
Overall I'm happy with the track design, but some tracks are bit too wide and bland, I miss the tighter corridors and more compact tracks. All in all I agree with the 8/10, but Mario Kart 8 remains by far the definitive mario kart experience for me, they would have to bring back inward drifting and tighten up the overall vehicle and drift handling compared to 8 for me personally, but I doubt nintendo will do that. I agree with the 8/10 score, maybe a 7.5.
