Is PS VR2 The Future of Immersion?

Alex David Johnson from NoobFeed writes - Much like the PS5’s DualSense controller, the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller will feature haptic feedback and adaptive triggers; the headset itself will be connected to the player’s PS5 console with a single cord and have enhanced resolution and tracking.

I'll let you know on day one!

All specs and available information to this stage point to a resounding 'yes'.

Add in the fact that we already know there will be more than 20 MAJOR games at launch, Sony's focus on hybrid AAA games (flat screen AND VR), and the news there will be 18 million more PS5s in the wild before April 2023 and you have every suggestion that Sony believes in this tech and is coming in hard.

You and me both. Cant wait to experience all the new features.

I'm really happy Sony is still pushing VR as it takes a giant like them to move the industry forward. Having said that, while I will enjoy it as I enjoy my PC headsets, I think the technology still has some ways to go before a broader audience will pick it up. Smaller form factor, wireless, FOV that actually covers your vision etc.. is what it will take for a broader audience to accept VR.

Unlikely. VR still hasn’t proven market longevity or viability.

It’s a rapidly growing multi-billion dollar market with many companies investing in it:

You have to understand we’re in the beginning of this tech and starting to see advancements with things like PSVR 2 and the Meta Quest 2 successor. I feel it’ll get to a point where we could be seeing things like The Oasis from Ready Player One eventually.

I just want a VR version of the "metro series" on VR2, I think there is lots of awesome games from PS4 library that VR could handle now with little to no downgrade?

SullysCigar693d ago

Uh, do you mean apart from PSVR outselling any previous headsets and then the Quest 2 going on to ship over 10 million units?

Do your research and add to the conversation or just embarrass yourself and give us all a laugh. I'm good either way.

A little hypocritical considering your bias and ignorance on the matter, but hey… there’s always the Metaverse 😂 .

As someone who works close to this industry with high profile people in it, your opinion holds little meaning. It does provide a small laugh though.

SullysCigar692d ago

^ Lol oh look out, we have another imaginary developer with an axe to grind. Move along, nobody believes you. It's always the people with the least clue that pull the "in the industry" line lmao 🤣

I think the question is VR the future of immersion. Let's not act like Sony was the first to attempt VR integration, nor will this be the last. There will continue to be advancements by plenty of companies on this front.

That being said, I'm super excited to get a PS VR2 and will gladly preorder one as soon as they are available.

True immersion will be when we reach Ready Player One VR.

RE7 had proper immersion on psvr.

I'd rather Sony's Vision for VR wins out over Meta's.

Unfortunately, it is built around a tether and no local processing - even if it is a single cable, you're still confined to playing only where the system is. Gamers won't care, I don't care since my open space is close enough to it, but it does limit its use case. Meta has the money to iterate quicker and release a product that adopts the best features from PSVR2 and maintains compatibility with the existing ecosystem.

SullysCigar693d ago

Another one for the Meta list: looks like mobile games. You have to accept there are pros and cons to each and either make your choice, or grab both.

Tacoboto693d ago

Yeah, RE4 looks exactly like the original because it can't afford to look better. But it's a blast. Beat Saber and Superhot are two others I own on the Quest 2 and their styles don't require beefier graphics.

I do move a lot though in SH and Beat Saber's been pulled out with some friends over - we're not hanging out in front of the TV - so the mobility of Quest is really what makes it such an easy option to pick up. Can't be boozy in the backyard with PSVR.

Now, if Sony's able to develop a plug-in battery pack/USB-C wireless dongle, that'll be a game changer. Opening up the headset and controllers to PC takes another advantage away from Quest.

Tbh most games only need 1meter by 1meter of space, even Japanese homes have that and there tiny.
Also most just sit on the couch in front of the TV to play? I only ever stood up a few times in games
