Rainbow Six Extraction Review – In the Shadow of a Giant | GamingBolt

GamingBolt writes:

Rainbow Six Extraction suffers from a deep case of little brother syndrome. As an addition to the classic franchise, it stands as a lower-priced, glorified expansion pack to the uber-popular and widely admired Rainbow Six Siege, with a selection of Siege’s operators and a hefty chunk of its mechanics. As a shooter, it’s a mixed bag of repetitive missions and flawed progression whose best features are frequently the ones adopted directly from its predecessor. As an independent project, what new ideas it has, namely its tactical PvE missions and MIA operator status, feel destined to get buried underneath the weight of larger, more ambitious projects. It’s not a bad game. In fact, it puts together a solid foundation for the stars to align on a perfectly satisfying, even highly enjoyable run. But with every passing level and each new turn at an old mission, I couldn’t escape the thought that its best concepts would be better served in a game that pushed itself a little bit more.

It’s a disappointing game. It’s okay for a quick half hour blast here and there but does feel like a half baked effort.

To be fair, and I'm not advocating for the game, but it did take a good long while for Siege, itself to find its footing.
That can be true for this, as well. I haven't deep dived into it, but I've had fun with it.
It's a great framework to add on to and improve, if they keep with it.

Good month. I recommend PS users to download R6 Extraction. It is seriously a really fun and polished co-op game.

Totally agree. The game got dragged in the review market but, get some friends together and it’s definitely worth a shot. It’s just as good with shooting mechanics as siege but no sweat lords to compete with

That's a crap ton of older good titles...some of which I never got to.

I’ve been holding out but I think when they start putting psvr 2 titles on there it’ll be my time to dive in

crazyCoconuts401d ago

I was thinking the same thing when I locked in on the deals they had during the last holiday season. I'm normally not a fan of subs but this was so cheap and the likelihood of them adding PSVR2 is pretty high imo. Hopefully within the next 6 months.

SullysCigar401d ago

It'll happen for sure at some point. They did OG PSVR titles on Plus before. Hopefully they'll be great games that flew under the radar, like The Light Brigade seems to be.

We did a radio segment on this recently. You have rising costs and lower sales and many in the industry think it could be a rough year. What seemed like a good idea when people were staying home is not so wise an investment now. Add to that rumors of hostile takeovers and labor unrest.

Microsoft is supposed to be doing a massive layoff tomorrow in the thousands too. Not sure how much will be in the gaming sector.

You’d think they’d realise that maybe relying on AC isn’t such a good idea after all

It’s like they got so used to it they thought they could ride that wave forever

What should've happened years ago, EA should be next

Honestly, I couldn't care less. Ubi have been trend chasing for too long and their sub par open world games have become so stale. A radical shake up wouldn't be a bad idea going forward, the last Ubi game I bought was Division 2 and didn't last five hours on that before I got bored.

Zombieburger638457d ago

Ubi deserves to go under. They’ve run Tom Clancy name through the mud and trashed every good franchise they own.

Rebel_Scum457d ago

Immature opinion. You’re saying thousands of people deserve to lose their job. How about writing a comment on how they can improve rather than what you said.

RaveTears457d ago

There no point talking how to improve Ubisoft, if they don’t want to improve themselves. As long Guillemot family is in charge, they going to keep destroying their Franchise by making it a live service, empty open world, rpg elements that are time waster, adding NFT and follow trend once is dying.

FPS_D3TH457d ago

What’s the point? People have been telling Ubisoft that they want Sam Fisher to come back for years but Ubi would rather attempt to chase trends for money instead. Ubi is tone deaf and honestly so are the employees if they don’t recognize the state of the studio they work for

Zombieburger638456d ago

I’m better off talking to a rock than trying to get Ubisoft to take literally any advice. Ubisoft wants to be like 343 and shit on its fans but we’ve seen how well that’s worked out.
