That Splinter Cell VR cancellation is heartbreaking! :(

Maybe it'll revive in a few years when VR is in a better place.

ApocalypseShadow645d ago

Agreed. That is an interesting one. Quest 2 just lost a future game. Wonder if one of the other unknown games is Assassin's Creed VR? Might have had a better chance not being exclusive and announced for Quest 2, PC and PS VR 2. Oh well.

That's leaving GTA SA VR as the only big game for Facebook. They better pull out the checkbook and fill in the hole. If GTA 5 VR gets announced for PS VR 2, that's going to hurt their headset even more.

deleted645d ago (Edited 645d ago )

Yea, I have a Quest 2 now in addition to my PSVR, but I really don't care that "Meta" get exclusives. I prefer linking it to my PC and playing Steam VR games, or sideloading classic games into VR like the original Doom games, Quake 3 Arena etc. "Meta" exclusives are just so weak, most games have to keep a cartoony style.

ApocalypseShadow644d ago

Yeah. I do like that you can use it for PC as well even if not a fan of Facebook.

It's just a weird decision. Ubisoft cancels this one when the flat reboot coming would increase awareness of the VR Splinter Cell game. Unless they plan to add a VR mode to the reboot. Similar to how Capcom did with RE7 and going to do with RE8. or IO Interactive with Hitman 3. Unless development wasn't going well. Who knows.

But why would they continue with Assassin's Creed VR if they are cost cutting with Splinter? Since the others are unannounced, it may not be AC. But it's the same situation. Same risk for a smaller community compared to an almost sure bet with a flat game. It's a weird decision. They should just shelve it until things look brighter with the world economy.

LittleChris2016644d ago

Stop saying flat game, it's freaking me out..

SpineSaw644d ago

No offense but VR is in a pretty good place and the Quest 2 VR unit alone is selling better than the Xbox Series consoles. I don't think where VR is has anything to do with the Splinter Cell VR cancellation any issues The Splinter Cell project had or has is 100% a Ubisoft problem they have a serious leadership problem at all levels and clearly have no idea what their doing anymore. Ubisoft got lost in the GASS chase wilderness and can't find their way out.

Noskypeno645d ago

This is why I hate when just a couple shareholders have all the power who probably don't care about the franchise and only sees numbers. Maybe the games weren't good, I'd just hate to see a great game not come out because the shareholders convinced the company to cancel because it wouldn't give them that 4th vacation home that they use 1 weekend a year. Just say that the game didn't have 20 Fisher skins that cost 10$ each

Sgt_Slaughter645d ago

Love how the CEO blamed the delay on less time crunch.

If the only way you were going to make the original time frame of release was overworking your developers into a stress-induced death, you have a serious problem.

neutralgamer1992645d ago

UBI are very close to needing a merger/acquisition so not surprising at all.

porkChop644d ago

They don't want one though. They're idiots. They've been struggling to stay afloat for years, while doubling down on the practices that have put their business at risk. Vivendi tried to attempt a hostile takeover but Ubisoft put a stop to it. They want to remain independent but they continue killing their business at the same time. I don't see how they'll last at this point.

neutralgamer1992644d ago

Yeah and I think it's safe to assume soon this option of staying independent won't be up to UBI. One of the main reasons they struggle so much is because they have development studios in some of the most expensive cities in the world

I really hope either Ms or Sony buy them out and actually give the IP's proper care

porkChop644d ago

Yeah I agree, they're going to get to a point where they can't say no. They're only worth 40% of what they were 4 years ago when they stopped Vivendi's takeover.

Don't see this as any loss to be honest

Ghost Recon Frontline Closed Test Gameplay Leaks, Features UI, Menus & Combat

Ghost Recon Frontline closed test gameplay videos has surfaced featuring our first look at the menus, UI, and combat based on alpha footage.

CaptainFaisal818d ago

Everything looks great , but the music and UI sounds are annoying

excaliburps818d ago

I wouldn't call it great. xD Well, it is F2P, so it's expected?

EvertonFC818d ago

Looks generic and shit like all ubisoft games in the last 5 + years. What happened to you ubi, I was a loyal fan until black flag 😔

telgou818d ago

Ubitshit is the only video game company that deserves to go bankrupt and its franchises rights bought by other companies, currently.

denawayne817d ago (Edited 817d ago )

GR is a total disgrace. It would be awesome if they redid the og GR's. It used to be more like a simulation. More realistic with tough missions. If your team died, you'd have to start the mission over from the beginning.
It also did BR in multi player before BR was even a thing. It was a mode called Last Man Standing

JEECE817d ago

Unfortunately I think the taste they got of a successful, persistent multiplayer game with Rainbow Six: Siege has them in a frame of mind where they want to just keep trying until they get another one. I do agree that a hardcore GR would be much more likely to be a success, but it would also be more likely to be a "sells 5-8 million copies" success, rather than a "has a massive persistent fanbase and generates tons of ongoing revenue from mtx" kind of success, and one success in the latter category is probably worth more than 5-6 of the former. Therefore from a certain frame of mind it's worth it to keep throwing nonsense like Hyperscape, XDefiant, and this awful looking thing at the wall until one of them sticks, even if it results in 4-5 failures along the way.

DigitallyAfflicted817d ago

You can adjust game settings in GR and archive simulation level of difficulty…

ChubbyBlade817d ago

It’s not even remotely similar

Ubisoft needs to rethink its strategy for future Tom Clancy games

Ubisoft is having a lot of issues as a company right now, from a mass exodus of developers to a controversial non-fungible token (NFT) push that went down poorly with the majority of the gaming community. But, something you may have forgotten happened in 2021 is that Ubisoft unveiled its plans for the future of the Tom Clancy franchise – and no one seems to be overly keen on what the French publisher has in store.

With a new focus on free-to-play, competitive multiplayer experiences, Ubisoft unveiled three new Tom Clancy-branded games this year: The Division: Heartland, XDefiant, and Frontline. Ever since their respective unveilings, these games haven’t really been seen or heard from (bar a few developer updates on XDefiant). The reception to Frontline, in particular, was so poor that its technical tests and playtests for the public were cancelled just days after the game was unveiled.

The biggest shame is that Ubisoft has so many IPs that either have been or could be killer experiences if they just stopped rehashing the same imagination.

glenn1979843d ago

They can't help it, all they see is green and there looking everywhere they don't care anymore about quality game ,all they want is more income like gta online or fifa, madden or cod, I lost hope om them long time ago cant wait them to destroy Splinter Cell with all that NFT shit and the same goes to RB6 extraction what the fuck is that shit ???

Profchaos844d ago

Ubisoft could be many things but what they are is deaf and blind to fan opinion.

ChubbyBlade844d ago

They’re supposed to be realistic tactical games but they insist on making hero shooters and goofy loot.

anast843d ago

Ubisoft is the decade's biggest waste of talent and IPs. They "live-service" single player games and make them not fun to play, so people have to buy the fun from their games via MTs.

MadLad843d ago

Assume nothing but towers and NFTs.
