Resident Evil Village Release Date Set for May 7, PS4/XB1 Versions Confirmed

Capcom has announced the Resident Evil Village release date and it's set for May 7! New trailer released, and the game is confirmed for PS4 and XB1 with a free next-gen upgrade.

Knightofelemia1187d ago

The news I wanted to hear XB1 and PS4 doubt I will find a PS5 by that time.

Hellcat20201187d ago

You don't think you will find a ps5 in the next 4 months?
I've seen them at Target in the glass casings
Last time I went they had 2
XsX they had 3-4 sitting there as well

Spenok1187d ago

You must live in the middle of nowhere, I can't find these to save my life.

Hellcat20201187d ago

I live in California
There are 4 Target stores within minutes of my home and probably 8-9 GameStops also within minutes from here and 2 BestBuys

Knightofelemia1186d ago

@Hellcat2020

1 I am not an American I am Canadian
2 If the system does land on store shelves the shelves are picked clean very fast
3 Target tried the Canadian market they only lasted 2 years tops
4 Last time I seen a PS5 in a store was on launch date and they didn't have enough to fill the preorders

Timzster1187d ago

SECONDING THIS COMMENT. I'm glad it's coming to current generation consoles.

FUBAR091187d ago

Until it ends up like cyberpunk 2077 lol 🤣

CrimsonWing691187d ago

I think Best Buy started a 2 factor authentication on online orders. My friend got an Xsex from Best Buy online yesterday and said something along those lines. If they’re implementing that you should have an easier time getting one.

FUBAR091187d ago

I tried best buy yesterday at noon. No 2 step authentication. Just bots. Had the console bundle in my check out screen typing in my credit information only to have the site tell me sorry your item is currently sold out. Thanks Best buy and Sony for all the help with scalper bots.

JCOLE131951187d ago

Strange.. I thought the last gen versions were scrapped.

CrimsonWing691187d ago (Edited 1187d ago )

I believe they made an announcement at TGS about the last gen versions. I was hoping they weren’t making this for last-gen and this would be built to take full advantage of next-gen, but I guess it’s a cross-gen release.

Ashunderfire861187d ago (Edited 1187d ago )

Well the graphics don’t look all that different from Resident Evil 7, so last gen definitely can run this game for sure. Even when they first announced this for PS5, I saw a game that look more last gen from the trailer. Maybe 🤔 I will get hit with many disagreements, but if you look consider at the textures it look a little low res up close on the PS5 version I was playing the Maiden demo. Maybe it will look a little better coming May. Maybe they could wash 🧼 the game with Ray Tracing.

CrimsonWing691187d ago

@Ashunderfire86

Oh I agree. I looked at textures up close in the demo and they were lo-res much like RE7, but that’s what I’m saying. You’ll get this with every cross-gen release. There has never been a night and day difference between games that are cross-gen. You’ll see better optimization on next-gen, maybe raytracing (whoop dee do), but there’s not like an NES to SNES difference like say Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters.

This is why people hate cross-gen. It holds next-gen back. I’ll be curious to see the leap from RE8 to RE9 because then you’ll have a dev team pushing next-gen as far as they can without being held back to make a version capable of running on last-gen.

Sephiroushin1187d ago (Edited 1187d ago )

Yup they need more sales... they bitched that they could not make it happen on ps4 and xbox so was new gen exclusive and reading this... either is broken on old consoles or they downgraded it to have more sales and/or make a "remaster" for ps5 update it assests or w/e

chicken_in_the_corn1186d ago

Those versions didnt actually exist until recently

war boy1187d ago

Releasing on ps4 and xb1 I’m not surprised at all

CorndogBurglar1187d ago (Edited 1187d ago )

And you shouldn't be, quite frankly. Most crossplat games will release cross-gen for the first year or two of new consoles. This happens every time new consoles come out, yet people act like its some big surprise, or feel the need to complain.

CrimsonWing691187d ago (Edited 1187d ago )

Not to this extent.

I don’t remember Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, or Infamous Second Son on PS3.

I don’t remember Ryse, Dead Rising 3, or Killer Instinct on the 360.

What typically happens with cross-gen is when a game is in development in between launches they’ll release it on last-gen and next-gen. So, King Kong was one of the first I remember being cross-gen when the 360 launched.

Never before that were there any cross-gen releases. NES to SNES to N64 to GameCube. Same with PS1 to PS2 and I don’t believe PS3 had any cross-gen titles.

This is kind of a thing that’s only happened in the last couple generations and again it wasn’t over a year that you would see cross-gen being a thing. Sony is planning this for 2 years. It’d be nice to get back to a time where a new console had all of its games only playable on the new console. It’s not quite as impressive when you look at a game on next-gen and it barely looks different than the same game running on last-gen.

I get it though, it’s all about money.

CorndogBurglar1187d ago

@CrimsonWing69

I said Crossplat games. I believe every game you mentioned were exclusives.

NeoGamer2321187d ago

It isn't a surprise but that makes the game previous gen as far as I am concerned then. It is hard to say a game is nextgen when you can run it on existing consoles.

The graphics, sound, and controls may be nextgen, but gameplay will be previous gen.

potatoseal1187d ago

This looks much better than RE7. Still, I wish they didn't have the first-person view, but that's just a personal preference. They obviously designed the game around it being first-person.

excaliburps1187d ago

Same. I'd have preferred RE2Remake's POV, but with how well RE7 turned out, I trust Capcom. Hopefully, we can get a third-person view one soon (a new one not a remake). :)

CorndogBurglar1187d ago

It doesn't matter to me. I would also prefer RE2's perspective but I loved RE7 and am perfectly fine with first person. Some people complained about RE7 the second they saw it was first person and swore off the game completely. They totally missed out on the most Resident Evil game to come out in over a decade lol.

Nitrowolf21187d ago

it does look better than 7 imo, least more RE than it. I liked 7 though, didn't think it was bad like some make it out

roadkillers1187d ago

I'm worried because I feel like they haven't given us enough information/gameplay on this game... Just like how I am worried that Mortal Kombat movie is launching in April with no trailer yet. To me, this is bad PR. Hopefully I am wrong!

I wish Capcom would upgrade Resident Evil7 to be playable on PSVR2.

babadivad118d ago

I said I was gonna try PSVR this time around but I still haven't forced myself to take the plunge yet.

Babadook7118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Do it when you have the time space and money. Think it through. It’s so worth it though.

The_Hooligan118d ago

I am thinking about purchasing PSVR2. I tried the headset and it felt comfortable even with me wearing glasses but it was only for like 15 mins. I didn't try it for a long time. So the only thing keeping me hesitant about making the jump to VR is not knowing how it would feel wearing glasses and playing VR for like an hour or two. Also, have you tried playing non-VR games with the headset. Meaning can you play spiderman with the headset. I know it won't be in VR but can you still use the headset to play regular games. Just curious to know what that is like.

Babadook7117d ago (Edited 117d ago )

@The_Hooligan

I don't really recommend non VR games in the headset. It's much more blurry than even a 1080p screen I would say. Although it does work.

As someone who did wear glasses in VR and also struggled with the sweet spot a bit, I recommend getting HonsVR prescription lenses and especially the Globular Cluster comfort mod to help comfort and keeping the sweet spot.

Thanks so much for the info. Much appreciated. Happy gaming! 😊

Jingsing118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Same, I bought PSVR1 and pretty much every AAA studio took a shot at making games for it but on PSVR2 it is just Sony and a sea of indie Quest ports which doesn't justify a premium $550 tag. I really want to play more VR but most of the software is pure garbage. I wouldn't even get $550 dollars worth of entertainment if you go by the dollar per hour metric for fun, it just isn't there. the few good games on it might get you close to 100 if you are hardcore.

I think Sony should have made their headset standalone with comparable or better power than the Quest. That would have gotten rid of the PS5 entry price and got non PS players involved too. But an added premium feature could have been to go wired with a PS5 if you have one for those few premium AAA games that can only run on a PS5.

EvertonFC118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Loads of awesome games , if you ONLY think a few titles good games are out then VR was never for you.
The problem is gamers think every game released would have a VR hybrid version and that's the gamers 1st mistake.
VR2 is about a year old and I have over 20 games I really enjoy and put plenty of hours into.

EvertonFC118d ago

"force yourself".

That right there is WHY you shouldn't bother.
I love VR but if your going to force yourself then you are already going into VR negatively.

ChasterMies117d ago

Winter is a good time to try PSVR2. I just look outside and I’m ready to strap on a headset and stand uncomfortably for an hour.

1nsomniac117d ago

As a launch day owner in its current state it’s not worth it unfortunately. Almost a year later and it’s still missing even the most very basic of features. And it seems to be pretty dead on arrival. It has great promise but as usual it was ditched out the door by Sony.

Abnor_Mal117d ago

Just curious to know what basic features PSVR2 is still missing?

1nsomniac115d ago

You can’t even watch 3D videos on it. I mean seriously it’s a VR headset and it can’t watch VR movies!

It sounds more and more stupid each time I even hear myself say it. Imagine designing it that way! It’s absolutely insane that something that basic is missing. That’s VR 101, literally every other headset starts with that basic function. PSVR2 STILL can’t even do that!

Babadook7118d ago

Yeah that’s a strange one. Maybe they don’t like racing games.

Abnor_Mal118d ago

There’s so many PSVR games that need an upgrade to PSVR2, the cumbersome Move controllers did limit the enjoyment of some games.

darthv72117d ago

i just recently found that i could use the move gun attachments for rush of blood and that made a huge difference in playability. I only wish that was upgraded to the VR2 along with Vader immortal.

Abnor_Mal117d ago

I have to rehook my camera for PSVR, and attach that adapter thing they gave away and give it a try, headset is packed away at the moment.

If gamers ONLY like 10% of my list you have your answer, DONT buy VR. I find my list to be a great 1st year for VR2 personally and I find it even crazier how YouTube content creators and gamers shite all over VR2 when its been a great year.

darthv72117d ago

Beat Sabre is definitely better on VR2 compared to VR1. Same with Thumper and Rez infinite.
