My mic automatically turns off whenever I log into the console. It's always on mute. You can do that in the settings.

4 years ago I would on a less frequent occasion get ads that made me think my phone was listening to me, because it wasn't something I searched for on my phone or PC. Now it's so damn blatant that it's listening to me to where I would immediately get an ad within 10 minutes of speaking about whatever it was. I'm like...wtf?!? How does it just randomly show me some obscure organic cereal brand I recently bought?

That one is actually your consumer profile that is based on purchases.
If an item has a unique name on a receipt, then it will be listed on your consumer ad profile for future ads or similar ads to be "catered to you" or just whatever they think you will be willing to buy.

I'm assuming there's no way to opt out of this? Terrible

Well, yeah. I told them they could. You can turn it on and off. It's super easy in the settings.

You people are acting like it's some sort of spying thing. They aren't uploading these recordings anywhere. It is saved locally, on your machine.

If you want to use the voice search function, you can do that, too. Even without the camera. The controller can do it. It's pretty cool.

What did you think they were doing with the RECORDING functionality? Not using it? It's a camera and a microphone. What in God's name do you want them to use it for? Decoration?

Speak, people just didn't want to be forced to buy a kinect and add $100 to the system price lol. The same ppl complaining now are the same ones complaining then. PS4's camera listened to you too. If you said playstation it came up and prompted anything you asked.

Actually people could easily have just unplugged their kinect. Never had to be an issue. And this is not an issue either. In my opinion.

@notorious from what I've been able to find out about kinect for xbox one is that it wasn't actually required for the console to function as people could simply not plug it in on launch day and could use the console as per normal, so in other words optional

That addition really added to how rewarding that trophy felt. I need to turn the feature on. Mine is set not to record atm. But now I'm thinking it would be great for hard games lol

Just add this to the list of things that are already spying on us like our phones, personal assistant device, and PC. On the PS5 I feel like it's less malicious in nature. Probably for research to know what experiences makes gamers happy, sad, angry, or excited. If this leads to improving the gaming experience, then it's not the worst spying implementation
