SA writes: For a long while, Mario has shown himself to not only be an accomplished jumper, but also quite the athlete and kart driver. He (and his friends AND enemies) have served a ball in tennis, stepped up to bat in baseball, made a few slam dunks in basketball (with Final Fantasy characters, no less), um... played golf, and scored some goals in soccer (or football, depending on nationality). Heck, he even met up with his long-time rival to join the Olympics. But there's something Mario can't seem to do, (yet oddly enough, Sonic is more then open to); share the spotlight with his Smash Brothers (and sisters).
I've wondered this more then a few times in the past. It seems like a grand idea, and yet Nintendo has yet to even hint towards giving it a try (although he DID go racing with Pac-Man and company... but, that was only in the arcades). Is there hidden rights issues? Maybe they feel people would have expectations that are too high? Who knows. But all I know is that it would be nice to see some other Nintendo characters try their hands at sports and/ or kart racing.
Of course, with more characters, would also come more options for, well, lots of things. What kind of things? Well here are a few ideas.
Even the biggest Xbox and PlayStation fans are jealous of Mario Kart. Thankfully, there are some decent alternatives for both camps.

Sony had the best one in Mod Nation Racers on PS3. That was a fantastic kart racer with great creation tools that allowed you to create/customize characters, vehicles, and tracks! Plus I liked that the game gave you the choice to expend power ups as either weapons, shields, or speed boost. It added an element of strategy not typically found in other Kart Racers. I would LOVE for Sony to bring that IP back!
The Mario Kart TAG Heuer Formula 1 Watch, a collaboration between TAG Heuer and Nintendo, is a blend of high-end watchmaking and iconic video game nostalgia.
Cool cool, can I get a plastic little watch that when you push a button you hear a "wahoo"? I can't afford to waste 4k on a watch right now, but maybe later.
The next wave for the Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass is upon us, with two new cups to be added for a grand total of eight maps. It's been a while since
I really hate the, "pose whenever you score a point" model of the title (it slow the game down, dramatically).
I gotta give them credit for add an online service to the title, though.
