Shinji Mikami formed Tango Gameworks over a year ago, but we've heard little since. The veil has at long last come off the studio's mysterious project... a little, at least.
GameDynamo - "In the latest issue of PSM3, he said that "[Skyrim's] a fantastic game. Just amazing. To have such a huge open world and so much freedom is wonderful, and the gameplay too is so varied; all those parameters and details that you can tweak and that affect the game. The characters are great too."
GamingUnion: "So Capcom's latest round of boasting includes their expected sales figures for Resident Evil 6, which they expect to hit around 7 million copies and everyone is all abuzz about Shinji Mikami (the designer behind the original Resident Evil title) creating a true survival horror experience instead. When looking a bit further afield, we've had some pretty decent survival horror games recently too. Dead Space 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and F.E.A.R. 3 were all enjoyable enough games, and at times scary in their own right. But are these titles are hardly representative of the state of survival horror, and Resident Evil's success shouldn't be taken as a sign that the genre is flourishing amongst the masses. Quite the opposite, it feels like each new generation of horror games does more to streamline the fear and do away with all of the limiting factors that make survival horror games so much fun to play. So where do we turn to for games that are more psychological thrillers than they are shoot em up? Why the indie scene of course."
I think a lot if going to ride on Zwei. Resident Eivl 6 doesn't look like it's going to be remotely scary.
A comeback? Pretty sure that survival horror has never been mainstream. Heck, gaming in general just recently became mainstream within the past decade with GTA3.
No mention of the Arma 2 DayZ mode that is taking the internets by storm? Been playing this all week - all hours of the day none stop. Stellar.
Resident Evil used to be scary. The music...those camera angles...the atmosphere was spot on. The series has changed so much, and it would be nice if they went back to their roots one day.
Resident Evil aside, the survival-horror genre was never that popular. And that goes for just about every genre except the universally recognized IP's.
Rich Madden writes "It was recently announced by Bethesda Softworks that the father of the Resident Evil franchise, Shinji Mikami, is hard at work on a new survival horror game. The project is code named “Zwei” and will be the first titled released by Tango Gameworks, which Mikami himself started in 2010 and continues to act as president and creative director."
Just hearing the word survival horror makes me giddy as hell...this gen needs way more of the long forgotten genre.
man, I hope all goes well for Mikami. People need to buy his games.
As opposed to CAPCOM.
FINALLY! If he teams up with Hideki Kamiya in creating this title than that would be the icing on the cake for me because it was both of their minds that spawned Resident Evil II. Zwei is a very interesting name because it means "two" in German. Maybe it's a play on words to reveal a rebirth or a successor to the Resident Evil franchise (of course not bearing the name but kinda like a Mark II)?
Anyways just don't have ammo dropping monsters and the feeling of making ever fight feel like it could be your last (hence SURVIVAL) and I am sold.....
