Why Porn and Games Don't Mix

Should professional gaming tournaments accept offers of sponsorship from pornography sites?

Last month, North American pornography production company Brazzers, owner of around 30 hardcore pornography sites and one of the largest players in the online pornography network, expressed interest in sponsoring the competitive fighting game scene. The news was met with mixed reaction in the fighting game community, whose public image has fallen under close scrutiny in recent debates surrounding the treatment of female players.

Ummm men work in porn also. XD why is it always women women women.

Omar914387d ago

who wants to see dudes wearing thongs? not me

PersonaCat4387d ago

Because only women are allowed to be mistreated apparently lol. I'm all for woman wanting to be treated equally, but stop trying to make a fuss over everything. People are to damn sensitive nowadays

OT: This is some strange news... maybe the creator behind Brazzers is a huge fan of the fighting genre? :P

smashcrashbash4387d ago

I agree. I mean people don't seem to remember that men are people too and have feelings and don't like being used and exploited. Doesn't anyone know what types of standards and negative images the kind of men they portray in porn, commercials and media does to us? We are either portrayed as too dumb to do anything right or huge muscular pretty boys with enormous junks. And most women expect us to live up to that image. Just image people tell me if a guys genitals are 6 inches you are 'small'. Average size us 5 and a half inches.

Omar914387d ago

To me, sexual scenes in gaming is fine if done right and not excessively over done throughout the entire game.

Bimkoblerutso4387d ago

Yeah, well. Male gamers by and large seem to make absolutely no distinction between pornography and a simple display of eroticism.

Basically if it turns them on, the male gaming community is going to defend it to the death, context be damned.

Hypocritically, they are also the ones that are going to complain when there is an overt display of MALE sexuality in video games, as in Mass Effect or the Voldo ad for SCV.

deep_fried_bum_cake4387d ago

"Hypocritically, they are also the ones that are going to complain when there is an overt display of MALE sexuality in video games"

Ummm...no. The people who complain about homosexual relationships in games are a mix of the same people who complain about heterosexual sex in games, crazed religious people who have never played games and homophobes.

I've singled out that part I think that your whole comment is pretty stupid.

Bimkoblerutso4386d ago

Oh, deep_fried_bum_cake. What the group consists of is irrelevant. You see, deep_fried_bum_cake, it's still a bunch of dudes that cheer when they see barely clothed chicks kill a bunch of zombies and complain when they catch a glimpse of Voldo's codpiece.

And look, deep_fried_bum_cake. If you want to disagree with me, that's perfectly fine. But let's not revert to fifth grade debate with the whole "your argument was stupid" defense. Why not try talking about it with the maturity and civility that your name, deep_fried_bum_cake, suggests you possess?

Hicken4386d ago

Where do you get that craziness from? Did you just come up with that just now? If at all possible, I'd like for you to give me an example of when a majority of male gamers did this. I suspect that won't be easy, even within the dense ignorance that often engulfs n4g.

Most male gamers don't care about massive displays of male sexuality except when it's funny(the Voldo ad was one such situation), or when some incorrect assumption is made, like when people say porn objectifies women definitively, yet men suffer no negative effects(see smashcrashbash's comment above for more info).

Seriously, your generalization is just as bad as what you're accusing others of. And it happens far more frequently, to boot.

deep_fried_bum_cake4386d ago

Don't know who taught you that sneering comment in which you act superior to someone and write someone's full name continually in a condescending manner is mature, but guess what, it's not. You're a bit of a (insert any word for excrement you feel necessary).

The reason I'm disagreeing with you is because generalised male gamers into that group. The fact is that the group you are talking about will make up about 1% of male gamers.

Bimkoblerutso4386d ago (Edited 4386d ago )

@deep_fried_bum_cake

You're accusing ME of sounding condescending? Mr. "I've singled out that part I think that your whole comment is pretty stupid"? I was just acting in kind, though I'm sorry I hurt YOUR feelings...

@Hicken

First of all, I don't know why your generalizations would be anymore valid than MY generalizations. We're both throwing around "by and large" this and "most male gamers" that. There is evidence all over youtube, all over forums, all over the internet of this kind of behavior. I don't know why you feel the need to deny it, though I'll admit that I did inadvertently make a very large generalization in my original comment.

Regardless of my position on the stupidity of...I'll just say "a large number" of male gamers that seem more than willing to share their stupidity with everyone on the internet, I don't think we really disagree.

In all honesty, the reason those people make me so angry is because that IS what has come to define the demographic; and it's a demographic that I'm often lumped into. I wasn't arguing against the exploitation of women in video games.

If anyone is being exploited, it's male gamers, seeing as developers cater to that large, vocal group of misogynists and homophobes that have seemingly come define what it is to be a "male gamer."

Edit: Oh....wish you had more bubbles.

The reason games and porn don't mix is because it's difficult to play with one hand.

dcbronco4387d ago

That's why there's Kinect.

dcbronco4387d ago

Games and porn work fine. Fighting games have boob physics. Boxing and MMA have ring girls. Who are not wearing '20's era swimsuits. The average gamer is in their 30's now. It's time to have parents do their jobs to keep their kids away from the material they deem inappropriate and allow the rest to censor themselves. If parents are too lazy to read the rating on a box, their kids are probably already screwed up since they are already neglected.

The main things hogging bandwidth are streaming movies and porn. Lets all be realistic and accept that as a species we like both. So porn is inappropriate for raising money for the school trip. Totally appropriate for gaming in mature titles. Parents grow up and do your f---ing jobs or stop f---ing.

kurochi4386d ago

sure it does.... I make it a game out of porn every single night..... LOL

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.

Bad Editing
When copying text from the source article make sure you read over the text and edit it if necessary. A good example is when a site writes "We" or "I" , as this should then be replaced with the site's or person's name, or you can quote the source.
