Is God Of War The Greatest Action Franchise In History?

Of all the great action franchises in gaming over the years, is it possible that God of War is simply the best ever? The review scores seem to confirm it.

You have a point there. GOW's combat doesn't touch any of those games, but you have to admit that as an overall package GOW games as a whole have better production values, sound, setpieces, story, better pacing(puzzles perfectly placed throughout so you have a break from hacking and slashing) etc.

Bayonetta's story was so bad that I returned it the same week I got it.

DMC 1 is an awesome game, but clearly the boss battles aren't as epic as GOW's

I'll get NG Black at some point. I actually enjoyed the demo a lot.

EDIT: Frankfurt, I don't have a link right now. I'll try to find it...but I'm pretty sure GOW3 is the best selling hack n slash on the PS3. It sold more than the PS3 versions of all those games I think.

God of War is not the greatest but it is right up there with DMC, Bayonetta and NG Black.You sound more like you have a chip on your shoulder about GOW. GOW's story, set pieces characters and boss battles mot to mention the fact that it actually has puzzles, swimming, flying and climbing to break up the monotony of just slashing things are far superior to the games that you mentioned.

What boss in NG or Bayonetta can match the multi tiered stage that was the Colossus of Rhodes? Combat is arguable I'll give you that but GOW far outmatches many of the features of those games. Bayonetta's story was the worst out of all of them.When you think about it, what else do you do in Bayonetta, DMC and NG Black but slash, shoot and slash some more?

dude bayonetta shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as god of war. bayonetta is trash, god of war not only surpasses that game in sales but in quality as well.

God of War 2 is still the best linear action game I've ever played. GOW3 was a good game, not great since the story and pacing was inferior to ever other GOW game, but still good.

Best franchise out there and by far. Only MGS4, Red dead redemption and bioshock can rival God of War 3.
