Rocksteady have made a name for themselves in the games industry for making Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, but what should they do next?
From VGC: "Warner Bros. Discovery today announced the launch of the Warner Bros. Discovery Access x Rocksteady Studios Games Academy in the UK.
The initiative, which will open for applications on August 30, will be offered to individuals aged 18 or older in the UK, with an emphasis on applicants that may not have access to traditional pathways into the industry, such as university courses, or internships.
The course will be free and will offer financial assistance such as bursaries for travel or childcare. The deadline to apply is September 23, and candidates will be notified in mid-October."
With rumours of a new game in the works, Adam from WellPlayed highlights five developers that could do the IP justice.
Rocksteady and Sucker Punch I can do a great action pact Star Wars games. Especially Rocksteady with their great combat system. Great write-up.
Spiders has proven that they can land the feel of the earlier Bioware games well.
Give them a solid budget, and they'd probably put out something impressive.
Then there's always Obsidian. As far as I'm concerned, despite being rushed thus buggy, I thought their Kotor 2 was a better game to Bioware's original. Especially when you got to play the fan patched version that included a lot of the content they didn't have the chance to implement in the original release.
I disagree almost entirely with this article in regards to them being suitable for KOTOR, but would love a Star Wars from each of these devs.
Rocksteady would have a great sandbox filled with easter eggs to respect the lore of the universe, but KOTOR isn't an action brawler. They'd nail a Bounty Hunter game. Kojima would probably pull a Rian Johnson and throw the lore out the window, but if he was to focus on a specific genre I could see you being another Bounty Hunter infiltrating the Sith.
Sucker Punch could easily tackle something akin to Fallen Order mixed with elements of inFamous. Creative Assembly knows claustrophobic tension; I could imagine a side-story of a pilot that crash-lands onto a monster-infested area of a Sith-controlled planet.
Bluepoint would be the only studio of these I'd trust in these to respect the original gameplay systems.
Larian Studios is one of the best RPG developers around, so I could see them making a phenomenal game. Unfortunately I don't think that will happen.
After years of rumours and online fights, Rocksteady Studios finally unveiled its brand-new DC video game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It has a solid roster, but it’d be better if it included a character that served a short time in Task Force X: Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke.
I really hope its the rumored Ninja Turtles. Arkham gameplay with a lot of co-op moves. If they do Ninja Turtles i hope its off the original comics.
I think they could do something good with Mortal Kombat or The Matrix. They did combat so well in Batman that I think it would carry over well to either of those franchises, both of which are heavy on hand to hand combat.
Take any MK character and put him into Arkham-style combat. The MK characters have similar abilities... Scorpion's spears instead of grappling hooks. Sub-Zero's freezing in place of Batman's freezing abilities. Liu Kang's fireballs in place of EMP blasts or batarangs. Fatalities instead of takedowns.
Then their is The Matrix. Swap Batman with Neo and swap Joker's thugs with Smith clones, and you'd basically have any scene from Matrix Reloaded.
They definitely aren't the most popular IPs out there, and the chance of a Matrix game is pretty much non-existant, but still, I think Rocksteady could do something great with them.
I think they should do something new. That is, completely new, and not based on someone else's IP. They've certainly earned the right to let their creative juices fly.
id like to see them make a judge dredd game
Yes please I really hope this is true! Superman I think does deserve a good game and the best people now for that is definitely Rocksteady.
