Four Reasons Why Gamers Aren’t Taken Seriously

The world thinks you are a cretin. There is no way around it. Games are for children, apparently, and if you still play them then you are a child, or a man-child, or in some way deficient. Why is that? What can we do about it? Read on good sir, and be enlightened.

Is one of those reasons because of sensational headlines that utilize screenshots of half-naked pixels to promote their unimaginative content?

Mad_Mack2428d ago

Definitely, although by those criteria you could apply it to the whole world of media and journalism, gamer or not, professional or not.

1. they cry about everything

2. they file ridiculous FTC claims

3. they waste tax payers' money filing frivilous lawsuits

4. they utter death threats

bonus:

5. they take advantage of a charity to further their own selfish, petty means

Megaman_nerd2428d ago

and the funny thing is that all you just mentioned isn't exclusive to gamers.

ziggurcat2428d ago

all i've just mentioned has happened in the last 2 months, and as it currently stands it's pretty exclusive to gamers.

Ares84HU2428d ago

....and here I was thinking you were talking about religious fanatics.

Apparently this is the 90's, back when this train of thought was legimimate rather than simple paranioa.
Gaming isn't what this article implies, and it hasn't been for a long, long time.

This Article is full of hit and miss:

1: This has nothing to do with Gamer's taken seriosuly, this is just a movie studio trying to make a buck by making a movie on something popular. The same thing happens with novels, but unfortunetly it actually works for novels.

2: The scandals are not entirely the fault of gamers, as it was a programmer who put it on a locked content on a disk. Not to mention most "Scandals" usually occur when some group makes an exagerrated claim on something they know nothing about (i.e. Mass Effect Sex scandal)

3: I can agree with the booth babe thing/sexism 100%. I think that this actually has a point in dragging the industry down.

4: Not sure what the point bringing the devs into this. I am sure I could show a number of developer pictures and no one would even think to associate it with games let a lone a influencial developer.

It's sad that the article didn't touch on having more mature story lines such as Heavy Rain. These opinion articles seem to be stumbling to the gate lately.

What do you mean "taken seriously"? I play games for entertainment I don't expect to be judged as a person because I play games, listen to music or watch movies. Take me seriously for my accomplishments not how i choose to entertain myself.

smashcrashbash2428d ago

Exactly. You can judge me all you want. I just don't care. What do I care what you think of me for what movie or game I watch? As if I care what a bunch of people who play games think about me? I didn't start gaming to be judged. I came to play games and have a blast.
