Good list, I'd like to add Mass Effect, Max Payne, Bully.

TekoIie4386d ago (Edited 4386d ago )

What aboutz Pokimons?!?! NO ONE will beat my beloved Pokimons!!!

EDIT: i would agree with mass effect but not sure about ME1 since it was more of a focus on your actions rather than the locations you visited but in 2 and 3 i totally agree.

DoomeDx4386d ago

Good List.

Though i think Killzone 2 also should fit in here.

Leio4386d ago

GTA Vice city also such a classic work

Philoctetes4386d ago

I would have added Arkham City and Dark Souls. But I can't really argue with the top 3. Those were all awesome.

JellyJelly4386d ago (Edited 4386d ago )

Damn good picks. Dark Souls world is very abstract in its design but still manages to feel real somehow.

I just completed Arkham City and what's striking about that world is how much detail has gone into it. You notice new stuff everytime you traverse the big map. The sheer number of environmental riddles you can find is testament to this.

I'd probably also add Skyrim to the list.

Blastoise4387d ago

Bioshock was a worthy number 1

Nimblest-Assassin4386d ago

Going to be replaced with Infinite.. so stoked for that game... it oozes atmosphere.

I would add uncharted, but its the characters that draw me in rather than the world... but the last of us setting could be something special.

God of War.. since their adaptations of Greek Mythology has incredible athmosphere

Halo and Mass Effect, due to their incredible sci-fi locals

Maybe Assassins Creed, since they are the only games that set themselves and the player in unique timelines.. i feel like Im getting a history lesson each time I pop the disks in.

But still a very solid list, played dead space, red dead, limbo and minish cap.. hell minish cap might be my second favourite Zelda game.

But truth is, one does not simply rank the top 10 game athmospheres.. too many great games to narrow down to a mere ten.

Blastoise4386d ago

Wow 6 disagree's? Fair enough. Bioshock had an incredibly immersive world. I do agree that demons soul's should have been on this list though

humbleopinion4386d ago

Exactly.
I disagree with some games in the list: I see how they might have been considered for their time, but today there's nothing really immerse about them - just like how I thought Alone in the Dark was the most immersive game back then thanks to the atmosphere that went all the way down to the squeaky door sound effect, but I wouldn't really call it immersive this day and age.

But Bioshock is def. number one to this day and age. Rapture is one of the (if not the) most well crafted places in the history of gaming.
I'd probably put in games like SOTC and Halo in there before a few others in the list thanks to the unique settings of each of those, but Bioshock, RDR and Dead Space put in the top 3 really get it right.

scotchmouth4386d ago

Blastoise I really agree with you. I didn't play bioshock when it first came out for some reason. I played it about 3 years later. I was still heavily impressed. From the graphics to the level design to the NPC dialogue. Bioshock had no problem keeping me immersed.

No stalker?

Meh

MEH

ATi_Elite4386d ago

Any Immersive list that doesn't have STALKER listed is a big fat FAIL!!

GamingPerson4386d ago (Edited 4386d ago )

I don't know what ur talking about.. must have never played stalker.

Give credit where credit is do.

Saladfax4386d ago

I thought Metro 2033 was more immersive than Stalker, but...

There are some pretty heavy similarities, aren't there.

mochachino4387d ago

I agree with RDR, Riddick, Bioshock and Metroid Prime but the rest not at all. I'd add HL2, Deus Ex HR, GOW2 and more that I'm too lazy to think of to list.

MeatAbstract4387d ago

No Half LIfe 2?
Demon's Souls?
Shadow of the Colossus?

One Year Later, What Was The Point Of The Dead Space Remake

The remake teased an expanded universe, but now a sequel has no chance of delivering on it.

Honestly i believe it was mainly as retaliation for the original devs breaking off and making colisto protocol. They've done this a few times, ignoring fan demands for the return of a belived ip until someone does it for them, then they retaliate by only then announcing an entry. Colisto protocol was announced and EA announced the remake shortly after, Session finally hit consoles and skate 4 was announced, shortly after Undisputed was shown off, talks started happening about a new fight night.

ZeekQuattro1d 4h ago

I agree. Reminds me of when Inafune announced Mighty No.9 and the initial reaction of the game industry was that of celebration and suddenly Capcom said ohh shit we need to announce Mega Man 11. 😆 Still waiting for MM12 & the next X title.

isarai1d 1h ago

Exactly, it's BS that pettiness has more power than demand for some reason.

Cacabunga1d 1h ago

i liked the remake as much as the original.. it has so many improvements, the most noticeable to me was the seemless transition between levels which should be a must and a standard nowadays.
I cannot wait for the sequel's remake too.

Tacoboto1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

That's a very farfetched conspiracy.

Callisto Protocol was announced in February 2021 and Dead Space in July. They didn't just decide in March 2021 to "retaliate" by remaking from scratch Dead Space in under a two year timespan.

If anything, Callisto is the result of a has-been Creative Director whose only inspiration is his previous work, and EA took inspiration long before Callisto was known about from the insane success of the RE Remakes and endless calls at the time for the RE4 Remake.

0hMyGandhi17h ago

So, how do you like working at EA?

shadowhaxor16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

And yet, fans of Dead Space, myself included, have been asking EA to bring back Dead Space for a better part of a decade. To which EA refused, stating that it was done with the series. Specifically after Dead Space 3 failed to meet EA's sale goals (sound familiar?) But magically, after they caught wind of The Callisto Protocol, with Glen at the helm, Dead Space remake was greenlit.

For those not counting, The Callisto Protocol call was announced in 2019, while Dead Space remake was announced in 2021. Long before TCP was announced?

badboyz0923h ago

100% that's the way EA operates

Extermin8or3_9h ago

You know how long it will have taken to make this game, this is some rediciulous logic.

Tacoboto2d ago

It was a solid game and we'll have to move on and accept it for what it is. Just because we're not getting a sequel (original or remake) doesn't mean there's no point anymore in what is a great, tense, well-paced single player experience. No one's taking Dead Space Remake away.

I just hope that the game isn't so technically stitched together on PC that driver updates render the game unplayable like what happened with me and my RTX 4070 last year, requiring a driver downgrade just months after the game came out. If you're a console player then you've got no worries.

TheProfessional1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Yeah but it was a pointless remake since the original still looks pretty good. They should've done a sequel, something original or Dante's Inferno 2.

Way too many remakes now. Even resident evil 4 had already been remastered twice before the most recent one. No originality. Why not just hire the original team to make a new game instead?

Harkins172117h ago

For the hopes to get a new generation of people into the game. OG still looks good but it stopped selling long ago. So I get why they do remakes.

Knightofelemia1d 15h ago

Most likely for EA to cash in on the remake craze that followed Capcom when they started remaking RE games. I am glad EA did it I enjoy the game. DS is one of my favorite franchises love the sci fi horror shit. What I don't like is EA not remaking DS2. So DS1 remake did not do well with the numbers so what. DS2 has a solid fanbase and is probably the best entry in the franchise depending on the fan. DS2 remake would have been a day one for me but I got a reminder on why I hate EA. Scrap the DS2 remake for a shitty Iron Man game.

chicken_in_the_corn1d 11h ago

It's because the gaming community want remakes and remasters over new games.

mandf1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Thank you for recognizing that. One group always complains over remasters or remakes.gamers want them and they sell. To the once’s that complain your console has no games to do again. If you did ,they would remake them.

Crows901d 2h ago

Or maybe we can tell most of these devs can't deliver good new IP for some reason.

isarai1d 2h ago

When it's hard to find a modern game that isn't broken, incomplete and monetized to hell, remakes are a sure bet for having a complete experience as older games weren't plagued with those issues

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 1d 2h ago
Fonsecap1d 7h ago

I think that is for the best of the franchise o be left alone then to be turned into a game as a service or something like that, EA has the awful habit of trying to monetize everything.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming7d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long7d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple1016d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor7d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing697d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno7d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Rockstar still strying to make GTA plus work
Should be $6 for the rdr game on sale not 6 bucks for a months playtime

Exvalos21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I hear ya, 49.99 or whatever the price on that game is, is a bit stiff seeing as it's just a port.

anast21d ago

Why would anyone rent this game?

jznrpg21d ago

One of my favorite games from PS3 generation. I have the remaster as there was a buy 2 get 1 free deal a while back but the price they are charging for the port is way too high although not surprising at all.
