In an interview with Gamer.nl, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that 3D images alone aren't enough to innovate the Mario series. According to Miyamoto, the difference between normal and 3D images aren't big enough to really call it a step forward - it isn't entirely convincing. Miyamoto went on to say that the same is true for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Wii Plus Motion controls. 'Next time, we have to come up with something that's truly innovating'.
'We believe that it is important to nurture developers who take this unique concept to heart.' -Miyamoto
Well with the exception of Zelda and Xenoblade Chronicles series, Nintendo first party games are usually less demanding (see Arms, Nintendo sports series 2d kirby + mario games, Mario sports series, Warioware, Mario Party etc).
Zelda doesnt even have voice acting for its characters most of the time and its games use simpler textures than lets say Horizon Zero Dawn, Last of Us, Gears of War 5 etc which means that the development costs are lower.
Even so, their games are generally polished and well thought of and as the Switch generation showed, many of their franchises actually grew considerably in sales (Kirby , Xenoblades, Metroid etc).

Nintendo’s iconic developer Shigeru Miyamoto gives a talk to new employees each year to appraise them of the company’s values and what it takes to create excellent video games.
A series first.
Aonuma is the main zelda guy currently after all. I'm sure Miyamatos been too busy with many other things and especially the next big zelda.
Spoken like a true warrior. Master Miyamoto always knows what's best for gaming. Always pushing innovation to the technical brink. Statements like this are why I remain a loyal Nintendo fan, and why Nintendo leads the industry today with trend setting tech, and award winning, game changing exclusive Nintendo software. I am looking forward to the next generation of Nintendo in house developed games.
Hyped for E3 2012, I can now rest assured that I will see something new and unique from Nintendo.

Yes because, graphics don't improve gameplay they might be nice to have but you can have good graphics and bad gameplay or the opposite. Good Gameplay with bad graphics(play any nes game) way better the opposite imo.
yeah but at the same time i dont want to use something so innovating and yet have crappy graphics either.
+1
I wonder why they made the 3ds for? i mean it is cool and all, but i dont use it since i have poor eyes sight.
