The Legend of Dragoon Coming to PSN: RPG Classic Reborn May 1st

PlayStation Blog: The Legend of Dragoon was one of the last projects I worked on as a producer in Japan Studio and by far the biggest team I managed hands-on. We started the project in 1996 with only a handful of people, hired one by one as we were building up teams for Ape Escape, The Legend of Dragoon, and Ico simultaneously. During the peak of the game’s development, we had well over 100 people working internally in the studio on The Legend of Dragoon — for a PSone game! We had roughly 10 artists dedicated just to drawing concept art for this gigantic RPG. As the game contained lots of pre-rendered maps and full-motion videos, we were forced to spread the content over four CDs, which was the maximum number of discs that the fattest PSone game case could hold.

No. A big one would be a full remake.

NewMonday2743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

true AAA JRPG, the only problem a remember are long transformations.

Sony should resurrect this game and Shadow Hearts as franchises

can we do Kickstarters for them, should we do a petition asking Sony to start one?

Awesome_Gamer2743d ago

I'm looking forwad to it.. thanks Sony <3

gta28002742d ago

A big one from the PS1 era. I already have this one on disc and I recently played it again a few weeks ago. Def one of my all time favorites.

MaxXAttaxX2742d ago

I believe there was an option in the game to cut the transformations short.

Anyway, this game was awesome. I really hope for a sequel at some point.

FACTUAL evidence2742d ago

It's nice they are doing this. I still have my disc. I'm truly missing legend of legaia though. I still have my case and manual, but my disc is mysteriously missing....Sony please bring LoL as well. My dream came true with klonoa door to phantomile, now only legend of legaia and I swear my ps1 classics would be complete.

jimineyscrickets2742d ago

I love classic JRPGs. This is fun news.

Very big one. I hope sony will make a sequel. This is one of the best rpg's around.

LOL_WUT2743d ago

That's what she said. ;)

CarlitoBrigante2743d ago

This is alongside FF7, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears one of those legendary JRPGs.

Hope Sony makes Legend of Dragoon 2!

Shane Kim2742d ago

Don't forget Alundra and Legend of Maaaaana (altough many will disagree with this one).

Sony needs to get the PSone games working on the Vita NOW!

I've been waiting for this game since they announced it for the Japanese store sometime last year. It's finally coming to the US and I can't wait.

Hopefully they will bring LOD2 back to life and bring it to the PS3 or PS4, if LOD does well as a PSone classic here in the states.

Spenok2743d ago

Man you hit it on the head. Its about time they bring this to the PS. Store. Lets hope hey get that PS1 support on Vita asap!

And how amazing would it be to have a LOD2 on PS3 or PS4! o.0

-PINNER-2743d ago

Definitely need PS1 support for Vita.

tiffac0082742d ago (Edited 2742d ago )

Maybe Sony should put LOD2 on the Vita (if it ever happens), I mean I know it would be cooler to see another JRPG on a console but what you said below make sense regarding investment risk.

I think putting the game on a handheld would reduce the production cost and help gauge the health of a returning franchise without taking too much financial risk.

TacoTaru2742d ago

If I can't play it on the Vita it doesn't count. I bought the vita just to get access to the old RPGs but Sony can't seem to make good on promises. They probably want to make special HD Vita versions and sell them at full price just like they did after removing PS3 backwards compatibility.

DragonKnight2742d ago

I'm sorry but shut up. Your post is riddled with so much butt hurt I'm having second hand pains just reading it. The Vita just came out for goodness sake. Ever heard of patience? Nothing is ever released with every single promised feature day one. Things take time, money, and procedure to implement well. Next thing we know, they pull an MS to get things out quickly but they don't work properly and people like you b*tch about that incessantly as if Sony are responsible for the worst crimes imaginable.

The fact is, things exist because of the demand for them. Just like HD versions of stuff. If no one wanted them, they wouldn't buy them and Sony wouldn't waste money making them, nor would 3rd party devs. And that's funny because I have full BC on my 60GB PS3. Oh, you mean you were to cheap to buy one at launch and are now b*tching about the removal of a feature no one used but still feel like they have the right to whine about? Well T.S. You should have bought a launch PS3 or kept your PS2. Everyone b*tched about the PS3's price and then b*tched when Sony did whatever they could to reduce the price and create a focus and demand for their NEW games and console. People like you created a lose/lose scenario for Sony so you have no right to continue moaning. I'm sure Sony won't miss your lack of purchasing a console RPG because you can't play it on your handheld. Use some homebrew on your PSP and play the original on it.

TacoTaru2742d ago

No Dragon Knight, I just want to play RPGs on my Vita. I'm playing Tales of Graces F on my PS3 and Xenoblade Chronicles on my Wii. I have the PS3 that was released with Metal Gear so yeah, it's BC and no, I don't play older games on it. I happen to have a love of premium hand-rolled cigars and find nothing more relaxing than to sit outside with a drink, a fine cigar and a hand-held RPG.

I wasn't so much complaining about removal of the BC as I was about the combination of removing the BC and then re-releasing the old games so that people that would have been able to play them on their BC PS3 were forced to repurchase them if they wished to play them.

And really - I don't think that homebrew on my PSP is the way I want to go. I pay for all games I play and I don't buy them used and cheat the developers.

Drithe2742d ago

I will not waste my money on a Vita until I can play PS1 games on it.

End of Line.

Majin-vegeta2743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

Oh god yes finally i still have my PS1 copy but im still gonna buy this to transfer to my psp :D.

Hey Sony how about starting a kickstarter for LOD2 come on you know you want too.

* LOD2 was put into preproduction after I left the Japan Studio, but was eventually cancelled for some unknown reason, and the team members moved on to different projects.*

WTF no how could they do that f*ck man :(.

Godmars2902743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

Are you honestly asking Sony, a multi-billion dollar company, to go to an independent investment site and ask for public money for what would be a private game.

Not that there aren't PC and 360 owners who'd like to play it if it were offered to them.

Spenok2743d ago

I think part of the reason they dont or havent made a sequal is because of the investment risk. You look at RPG sales this generation and they havent exactly been widely successful like on PS1 and PS2.

So if you take a game like this to Kickstarter and let the fans show they want the game with their wallet BEFORE it comes out, then im sure Sony would be more than willing to throw their support behind it and release a full blown sequal.

Man i know i would throw down at least $60 if they made a kickstarter campaign.

Baka-akaB2742d ago

the disagree are ridiculous . There is no way Sony could justify a kickstarter when they can fund it themselves

xtheownerzx2743d ago

GTFO! are you kidding. I think i need change my boxers. I have been waiting for this for years!

SandboxQuint2743d ago

holy crap this is great news
