In the latest issue of Play Magazine ( #217 ) a 2 page spread dedicated to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance reveals additional details about the spinoff.
"Proving they can work as fast as the gameplay in their titles, under PlatinumGames the new script for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in which Raiden is contracted for VIP protection was rewrote in 2 months. In contrast, it took Kojima Productions some 10 months to do so."
By 'rewrite' I'm assuming it's very different from what Kojima Productions originally made. I know this because Platinum Games don't make story driven games like Kojima. This game really is gonna be just like Bayonetta. Gameplay will be good (and probably good enough for me to buy it), but all others are scrapped. Not really a Metal Gear game in my eyes...
They crapped out a rewrite in 2 months in place of Kojima Production's script?
Welp, it isn't MG at all anymore. An apparent Hack and Slash focus, outside writers, different developers...
And Platinum Games, of all people. Such an over-rated studio. A poorly balanced and short TPS, a hack and slash with an unfocused combat system that never would have been rated so high if not a timely competitor to GOW3 and starring a grotesque "sexy" creature for our immature industry to fap to, that repetitive game whose only qualities were its "artistic" decision to have 3 colors and its ultraviolence....
They sure get a lot of hype for their bland games. And I'm sure as Raiden hacks baddies up for 6 hours, this game will, too.
"The human enemies were removed to avoid censorship issues in Japan." - .....you've got to be kidding me.
@SilentNegotiator Japan actually has huge issues when it comes to blood and decapitation in which there was an abundant amount in the initial trailer.
Usually when it comes to decapitation they only allow it when it is implied but not actually shown such as all the RE4 versions in JPN were censored to this affect akin to what you see now in RE5.
Probably one case that stands out too well is No More Heroes where the Japanese version has blood replaced with pixels and no gore at all until the HD rerelease for the PS3 and 360, though the PS3 version is still censored.
Here's the PS3 rerelease scene of assassin number 6 blowing her head off.
No. Golden Abyss wouldn't be an Uncharted game if it was about a bank heist while ignoring any character development Drake might have had in prior games instead of a treasure hunting explorer.
This game is about Raiden remaining a blood thirsty killer *after* having settled major issues with his life.
This game will likely shi* on MG's Raiden. But **** it. We all know what it is. A dirty Spin off. I still can't wait for it, the gameplay looks amazing imo. Although of course people who don't like hack and slash won't like it.
If they make an Uncharted game that switches focus from platforming, shooting, and treasure hunting....to driving and fighting off a robot apocalypse...then I'll say the same thing about that title.
But no, you're just trying to make out a playstation equivalent. It's like everyone on N4G tries to turn everything into being about Call of Duty or Playstation.
@8bit I'm still waiting for your response, if you even make one. But right now it looks like you're going to leave it at the insane assertion that my text "sounds mad"
This game has about as good a chance of seeing the light of day as ff versus. To al the people putting platinum games down just don't forget kojima picked them.
Im looking forward to this since there really has been a lack of decent hack n slash this gen and this game looks like it will be making up for some of it.
The best thing about this game for fans of MGS and PG is simple:
1) it is not MGS (meaning dont worry if it plays differently) 2) its not MGS (it can have OTT tight gameplay and not be limited by MGS
Had this been a MGS game, it would be a different story but since it isnt, I dont expect anything but the best from PG and Kojima Productions.
Although i've said from the start(as soon as finding out platinum games were doing it)that it would end up just being a bayonetta game with an MGS skin.
Doesn't look half as good/cool as the original demo provided by kojima.
P.S don't get me wrong bayonetta was a good game, and platinum games are good at what they do. MGS is just one of those franchises that has always had a quality seal on it. This seems to be heading below that, which sucks because i have a raiden man crush.
This isn't a MG game but it could still be a good game. Platinum games are a good dev. Just look at Bayonetta and Vanquish for proof of that. If you want to play a MG game, Rising isn't for you so get Peace Walker or wait until MGS5 (PS4 exclusive). If you want a good hack n' slash, then Rising is for you.
Really? Hmm, then maybe i was too quick to dismiss them.
I read that they aren't apart of the main story, so i kinda dismissed them. But if they are as fun as you say, i'll go buy Ac!d, bet it's really cheap now.
Thou atm, I'm putting alot of time into MGS:PO. I played MGS:PW first, so MGS:PO feels weird haha
I think I'll skip it too. MG for me (and all MG fans) is about the stealth gameplay and the story. This game has no stealth and is probably not story driven at all. I could be wrong though and I hope it.
I don't get it, was Ninja Gaiden not released in Japan then? or any game to involve cutting humans? o.o because that really makes no sense to me why they removed human enemies.
I REALLY wish they had kept the human dismemberment in the game, but oh well. I guess the cyborg enemies make more sense from a gameplay perspective. I doubt they'll allow you to one-hit kill enemies, but with humans it would make no sense if you couldn't. You know, since you have a razor sharp sword and all.
Platinum Games also developed Madworld, which had ridiculous levels of gore. If a game like that didn't end up getting censored, then I highly doubt that this would have.
They did develop Madworld however SEGA never published the game in Japan it was published by a company called Spike which has published other ultra violent games in Japan. Even though it was actually published it got slapped with the CERO Z rating which is the equivalence of an AO for the ESRB.
So Without Spike, Madworld would of never gotten a JPN release. In fact during development PG wasn't sure if they were gonna release the game in JPN. With them saying, "In certain markets there are a lot of limitations on the amount of violence you can show, so we definitely have the Western market much more in mind"
Grasshopper Manufacture that's making Lolipop Chainsaw is actually gonna tone down the actual game in JPN so it gets a CERO D rating though you also have the option to buy a platinum edition of the game which gives you the option of playing a CERO Z or CERO D version of the game.
So I can give them the benefit of a doubt. On top of that, they decided to get their priorities straight by implementing 60fps in what would be a hack-n-slash title. Right choice there.
Now the real question is, will it be casualized a-la NG3? Or are we gonna see something like Bayonetta?
I'm willing to give it a chance, just not going to see it as a true MGS game. More like an action game coming from Platinum that happens to star Raiden from MGS and might have potential.
I'm thinking that's pretty much what it is anyway.
The lack of faith in Platinum I see here is unfortunate. They have a great track record and they KNOW how to do combat. Be more afraid for DMC than this.
I'm not doubting PG here, but... they're making a Metal Gear game and, while a spin off, it's just not sitting right with me. Even other spin off games like Ac!d still maintained the stealth aspects the series is known for... this is just... Bayonetta with a bastardised Metal Gear skin. Even from a story aspect, I can't imagine it's going to be anything more than a loose narrative to tie together hack and slashy areas.
I see what you're sayin'... but, Kojima actually planned to make this spin off an action oriented title to begin with. Which he admitted that it's something he doesn't exactly excel at and handed it over to a company that can pull it off. Thank God it wasn't Slant 6. Or Tecmo for that matter. Thing is though, you're gonna get your proper MG soon from Kojima. Next gen is coming and with it, always a proper MG. It won't be ruined, if for 1 reason only, it's not MG. It's a spin off. Treat it as such and it probably won't bother you as much. The real one's coming, and in the mean time, enjoy a MG themed action sandwich brought to you by EXTREMELY competent combat chefs at Platinum. Ok, now that I'm done being diplomatic... Hey, what the Hell's wrong with Bayonetta!? *folds arms, stares proudly into the distance*
Took the words right off my keyboard MEGATRON D. =D
My only question about this game is what kind of Metal Gear will Raiden have to stop in this spin off? Because he's making minced metal out of everything in his path, no matter the size of the enemy. Some type of Metal Gear has to be involved for him to stop right?
I can imagine Metal Gears aren't the primary concern in this game. After all you see Raiden in the trailer destroying a Metal Gear Ray like it was nothing.
The only thing that concerns me is the story :/ Pretty obvious the gameplay will be good though. Although, what it looked like before looked A LOT more appealing to me.
It has "Metal Gear" in the title but there is no stealth elements. This is an obvious cash in using the MG name and that's why I'll be skipping this garbage.
If it didnt say Metal Gear on the tin, how many would be reading these articles? But, me personally, I did not enjoy the script of ANY PG games.. their so lame.. So, its going to be the same here. So would I buy MG:R for gameplay alone?(assuming its great?) No. Especially if it isnt cannon to the MG Universe. Oh, and Raidens one liners in that one trailer sound like they wrote the script in two weeks. "its time for Jack to let it rip" ... Just sayin..
Metal Gear Rising gonna be better than Ninja Gaiden 3!!!! Its not just hack and slashing, its hack and slashing limbs. Something that Ninja Gaiden 3 miss. If you agree then click agree, or if you don't agree click disagree LOL!!!

Grim....
This will be my first skipped MG game :(
Give magazine scans :D
I'll try it.
