Square Enix responds to fan's question on Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Square Enix on there twitter page gave a hint (although a vague one) on when we will hear more about Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

The story is too old to be commented.
PshycoNinja2394d ago

I bet E3 2012. They have to give in at some point and give the fans what they want. I am glad they are acknowledging the fans that want to know more but they are still being vague with everything they say.

We NEED a release date.

We NEED to see this played on the PS3.

We NEED to see the game released sooner rather than later.

Abash2394d ago

"nope, but look for news soon (soon can mean so many things though really...)"

Wow that was about as helpful and informative as avoiding the question all together

ABizzel12393d ago

At this point it might as well be called Final Fantasy 15 and be a PS4 launch title, if it hasn't gone multiplatform by now.

I'm not going to report you for trolling, but I will report you for being immature. That sort of attitude only contributes and perpetuates to the negativity you so detest.

WOW what a daredevil
don't worry i will flag you

bakasora2393d ago

Maybe this title is in the same situation like Metal Gear Rising, I mean Revengeance.

Agreed. While Square Enix puts this game on the back burner they are effectively putting Kingdom Hearts III on the back burner too and that is something that upsets many Square Enix fans. Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts fans alike.

The longer we see this game in production the longer Kingdom Hearts III development gets delayed. Square needs to show that this game is real and is almost done. If they don't do it by E3 I don't see too many fans being happy with Square. They need to get on with releasing Versus XIII (maybe it might be called XV) soon.

limewax2393d ago

Actually large amounts of the mythology tie over to the Fabula Nova Crystallis. However I agree it needs to be shown and soon. My personal suspicion is that it's going to be SE's declaration to joining the next gen much sooner.

It has been said before that Versus uses parts of the Luminous engine designed for next gen. So I can see this becoming a next gen launch title. However it has been catered to the PS3 architecture heavily so it depends on the architecture of the PS4

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2393d ago

In regards to the name despite it's relation to FNC, they should change the name. Maybe just drop the 13 and call it Versus.

The Great Melon2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

The name change could happen. Final Fantasy Type-0 use to be Final Fantasy Agito XIII, so depite existing in the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe it dropped the XIII.

I don't think the name Final Fantasy Versus XIII helps it too much either. 'Versus' makes the game look like a spin-off while XIII brings back thoughts on a controversial entry in the series. As many other people agree slapping a XV on it would be preferable despite not strictly playing like a typical FF. It would by virtue of being the next numbered Final Fantasy generate more sales.

PshycoNinja2394d ago (Edited 2394d ago )

There's no reason for it not to be at E3. Granted if not E3 than most likely TGS but there's no reason not to show it at E3. Square has shown off gameplay for a lot of their games there and if they know whats good for them they will show Versus XIII.

catfrog2393d ago

i hope not, if theyre only just starting to show it at TGS, it almost guarantees that it wont release in NA this year. if they start showing it at E3, maybe, probably not, but maybe

sikbeta2393d ago

TGS will mean 2013 release most lickely, screw this, save it for next gen :P

iamtehpwn2394d ago (Edited 2394d ago )

Due to Final Fantasy XIII and XIV, and non-FF related performances on HD consoles this generation, Square Enix needs (to the point of where their life depends on it) to reaffirm the public opinion about them, and Versus XIII is a fantastic oppurtunity to do that. But there are two big things about it:

1) They will need to release a demo before release and a have a steady flow of media and trailers like they did for XIII-2, where XIII-2 was in the news cycle every day. We were always learning new information about the game. Make that happen for Versus XIII next.

2) Rename Versus XIII to Final Fantasy XV to show how ambitious the game is. Granted, the game is heavily connected to the Fabula Nova Crystallis Mythos, considering both Versus XIII and XIII-2 (type-0 as well) revolve around Etro and L'cie, I don't think many people would mind however.

And I think people will consider Square a big player again after that.

VanillaBear2393d ago

"both Versus XIII and XIII-2 (type-0 as well) revolve around Etro and L'cie, I don't think many people would mind however"

Trust me with how long it's been in production you don't know how many things have been changed

Perhaps thats the reason it's been delayed so much, they wanted to seperate it from FF13 and the Fabula Nova Crystallis mytho.....with Type-0 they left it to late when they tried to move away from the Fabula Nova Crystallis series since it was going to be out in Japan the following year.

iamtehpwn2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

@VanillaBear. Simply Put: No.

They would have to rewrite the entire story for it to not be about Etro, and Crystal mythos, and also lose many art and gameplay assets tied to it.

Type-0 did not move away from Fabula Nova Crystallis. In fact, there are quite a few L'cie in Type-0:

"According to a piece of concept art released during the end of 2008, fal'Cie are to be featured in the game. "

^ As you can see, Etro is going to be a key center piece around the story as she is the one gives Noctis and Stella their powers....Noctis and Stella may very well be L'cie of Etro or possibly Etro's "Champions" like such as Lightning and Caius who were loaned the power of Etro and ascended to a higher form of existence.

VanillaBear2393d ago

Look all I'm saying is that it's been in production for years, we really don't know what will be in the game.

With the amount of time they've spent on it they might of rewritten most of the story and changed certain elements. We just don't know

Besides I know Type-0 didn't change completely I even stated that, I just said they wanted to change it but ran out of time so they couldn't seperate it enough as they wanted, thats why it still links to the Fabula Nova Crystallis mytho.

"According to a piece of concept art released during the end of 2008, fal'Cie are to be featured in the game. "

^ As you can see, Etro is going to be a key center piece around the story as she is the one gives Noctis and Stella their powers....Noctis and Stella may very well be L'cie of Etro or possibly Etro's "Champions" like such as Lightning and Caius who were loaned the power of Etro and ascended to a higher form of existence."

As it even states......2008

FOUR years ago, I'm pretty sure thats enough time to change whatever they want.

iamtehpwn2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

Oh and when you said "Type-0" tried to move away from Fabula Nova Crystallis, have you ever played the game? There's a Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy Logo in the game.

The game is even divided into Chapters like XIII and XIII-2 are, so that also a appears to be a theme/approach to FNC series.

I find it mighty fun the hatred you guys have for the Fabula Nova Crystallis Mythos and yet you still demand Type-0 and Versus XIII, two games that more directly approach the myth than XIII did. And I highly doubt they tried to move away from the myth. I mean, honestly, Versus XIII's story has been finished for quite some time now, do you really think they went back, and rewrote the story bottom up JUST so it wouldn't be a FNC title? You guys are ridiculous. You act like FNC is AIDS because it's related to FFXIII. Just because XIII didn't present the mythology in a goodlight, doesn't mean that anything that touches it is shit. And I gaurentee you, Versus XIII will STILL feature Etro and L'cie.

izumo_lee2393d ago

You are indeed correct with your assumptions about the Etro & L'cie being in FF:type-0. I have played & finished the import version of the game & i can assure you the ideals of L'cie are a big part of the game.

As for FF vs.13 in that long trailer they showed at TGS a couple years back. Noctic is clearly looking at a painting/sculpture of the Goddess that is heavily featured in FF13-2. It may be in fact a painting of Lightning as the goddess.

I think all the hate towards the FNC series is that with the release of FF13 the fans expected something more cause it was a next gen Final Fantasy game. We have had epic games like the old school games, the PS1 & PS2 games & with new hardware the expectations were too great for FF 13 to deliver on.

I find it funny i got disagrees in the post below this that all i want is for FF vs.13 to be finished & released before porting it to another system. FF 13 we all know & read Squarenix handled that poorly. If they decide to stop mid development AGAIN to make it multiplat we WILL see a repeat of FF 13 all over again.

iamtehpwn2393d ago

To the anyone who believes Versus XIII has moved away from Fabula Nova Crystallis:

The trailer from just last year, Over a year after XIII's Japanese release:

1:26. You clearly see the words: 女神エトロ, which is Megami Etoro or in English "Goddess Etro" as they talk over the painting of Etro.

torchic2393d ago

Versus XIII and XIII are still very much inter-linked.

Crystals, l'Cie, fal'Cie, Etro. all those will be in Versus.

Versus even has the same Behemoth/Behemoth King used in XIII/XIII-2.

I bet E3 2012 noone is gonna care about this game, even an old school jrpg fan like me could care less. Squeenix hasn't made a good game, excuse me, square hasn't made a good FF since FFX. I highly doubt they could make a decent rpg if their lives depended on it.

TimeSkipLuffy2393d ago

and end up with the likes of Final Fantasy XIII. While it was not bad, I even enjoyed it, but it still lacks a lot and should have stayed exclusive for the PS3. I want this to do better and to make fans jump out of joy once it is released (exclusively) for PS3 ^^.

they are just waiting to say coming to xbox 360, to get the same hype they got with 13. at that point the game dies for me

FACTUAL evidence2393d ago

I just want to see a traditional FF game...just make ff15 please before I fucking die and miss out on it..

Megaman_nerd2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

FF has never been traditional to begin with all of them pretty different from each other. That's why we have people that only like the Snes ones, the PS ones or the newer ones when they started with the corny stuff at FFX.

VanillaBear2393d ago

I want a name change

I really don't want this related to FF13, I know both seem like they move away from a traidtional FF game but if anything FF13 was more of a spin off then FF13 Versus. I would pick Versus gameplay over FF13s

Name it FF15 I say

torchic2393d ago

why are you so caught up with the title?

and how is Final Fantasy XIII more of a spin-off when it's the game that has ATB, and not Versus? in fact, how can you even make such an assumption without ever playing Versus?

do you even know what you're talking about?

DigitalRaptor2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

You need to come to terms with the fact that they're not changing the name to a main entry.. first of all.

And according to Nomura, Versus XIII is meant to be a new type of FF game/experience, something players haven't seen before in the franchise. The battle system, the way they're approaching interactivity (event scenes) and bringing back the classic elements such as world map and airships is proof. It kinda is a spin off, but then again it kinda isn't, since it's tied to the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology and was conceptualized at the same time as XIII if I'm not mistaken.

It's not clear cut and that's what I like about it. Unpredictability is what I want from it and that is what Nomura & team are going to deliver in spades. The scope of the game deserves a main entry position, but it's not happening.

mep692393d ago

We also NEED a Japanese VA option with quallity subs.
Didn't buy their last one because of this, they didn't even make an international edition on PS3 :(

mobhit2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

jthamind: ...Fans wanted this game to come out. When did any PS3 fan act like this was a shining beacon? Good job being a fanboy.

Anyway, Square hurry up with some news already!

zeddy2393d ago

soon? i hope they mean e3 soon. this has gone on long enough.

Blacksand12393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

I'll give you one 2013 on PS4. Sony going to push this on that's why it haven't came out yet.

LX-General-Kaos2394d ago (Edited 2394d ago )

I believe the speed bump slowing down the production of FF13V is a multiplat announcement. This game has a chance to show up on the PS3, 360, and Nintendo Wii U entertainment console. Square would maximize profit with a multiplat release, and a possible name change to FF15. Which would be ideal.

An announcement that epic would do wonders for square, and Final Fantasy fans come this E3 2012. Everyone would have a fair chance to experience greatness. It would come to no surprise that if all square console jrpg games were multi from now on.

Rated E For Everyone

Shikoro2393d ago

Dude, stop with your PR like comments. It's really getting annoying...

KingOptimus1012393d ago

You are such a fanboy, your always on the sales articles talking about how good the 3DS is doing, most of your comments are negative towards ps3 and ps vita, and now you talking about sony losing an exclusive just stop it already.

J86blum2393d ago Show
Outside_ofthe_Box2393d ago (Edited 2393d ago )

No it wouldn't be epic. It'd be epic if you didn't own a PS3, but overall it would just mean content would get cut.

They would no longer be trying to the best that they can with Versus 13 if it went multiplat because they would now be making sure that all console versions are on par with each other and making sure that the Wii U version isn't a gimmick instead of focusing on making a great game.

stonecold32393d ago

final fnatasy vs 13 is for the ps3 excluisve there no 360 or wii u version planned you might want to buy a ps3 if you want final fanatsy vs 13.

It was announced before PS3 was launched. Will this game be released before this gen is over? O_o

TeaDouble_E2394d ago

I don't understand why SquareEnix hasn't released this title. Are they not interested in money?

DoctorXpro2393d ago

And they point the finger at Alan Wake development....

yeah right

Godmars2902394d ago

Sad thing is no matter what they announce I'm not going to be too excited about it.

They'd have to have a demo ready to go out as they announce it.

Megaton2394d ago

I gave up on this game years ago. SE hasn't produced anything of value this generation, why would they start now?

WitWolfy2393d ago

True true... At least they published AA.

Canary2394d ago

And a release date 2 months off.

Generally speaking, games stuck in development limbo for as long as Versus... do not turn out well.

PshycoNinja2394d ago

As I recall, Normura said in an interview that the next time people see the game, it will be running on the ps3, it will have a demo and a trailer.

RedDead2394d ago

I know you guy's all say that now, but all it will take is one good trailer, or one good gameplay vid etc and you'll be back on the hype train. That's just the way it works. If the game looks good you'll be interested again. If the game actually turns out good are you saying you won't buy it because it's been in Dev too long?

Also, Pshyco is right, Nomura said that, it's likely either E3 or TGS. Personally i'm betting E3, a release date...and TGS the 'release' conference where it'll get a crap load of hype

Godmars2902393d ago

No. *I* will at least be interested in the game again *if* I get my hands on a demo. Even then I'll be waiting for a review I can trust before I buy it, and there are few of those.

Think I've given up on this console gen in general. Its had a few honestly good games, still has few coming, but I'm just done with the over hype machine and blind fan loyalty which has pointlessly put gamers at each others throats just because they own one system.

terrorofdeath2393d ago

And people complain when a game is released too soon cause of bugs and patches.
