Destructoid:
Though I do desperately hope to one day see a full-on resurgence of aerial combat games, I've never been a die-hard fan of flight sims. I wholeheartedly respect the people who make them and the ensuing audience that appreciates their complexity, but the realism of strict simulation has, more or less across all genres, never been able to pull me in. Right now, there's not a whole lot of incentive to spend more than an afternoon playing the game.

To understand exactly what went wrong with Flight, one needs to understand the series’ development history. Indeed, the last public release of the traditional Flight Simulator engine was a long descendant from the original Microsoft Flight Simulator release in 1982.
MS really screwed up with PC gaming in general. Its fortunate that we don't need them as the platform is open to all.
