G4TV- Armored Core 5 Review

G4TV- Armored Core V is what people have come to expect of mech-combat games: it's fun, pretty, and provides overall smooth gameplay; however it's nothing groundbreaking and is so impossibly confusing that only hardcore fans will truly enjoy it.

Allow me to dissect the opening paragraph.

/////G4TV- Armored Core V is what people have come to expect of mech-combat games://///
Mech combat games are quite varied. There's no one single thing any of use inherently expect. Much like RPGs. Claiming otherwise betrays a deep ignorance of the subject matter.

/////it's fun, pretty, and provides overall smooth gameplay/////
Sound like better than a 2/5, don't it?

/////however it's nothing groundbreaking/////
Ah, the empty insult of "not innovating." This is code for "Japanese." A favorite tool of bigots in the gaming media, it's a handy way to criticize the game without actually saying anything.

/////and is so impossibly confusing that only hardcore fans will truly enjoy it/////
Yes, how dare a game utilize complex mechanics. Idiotic sentiments like this are why every other game has regenerating health, and why douchebags like Peter Molyneux can say such batshit stupid things like, "hey, let's make a game without any menus!" and and the media lauds him as an innovator.

I won't say that AC5 is a great game, or even a good one. I, personally, think it takes more steps backward than forward. But this review is utter and complete shit.

Its funny how they say'it's nothing groundbreaking", but they wouldn't dare say that to their beloved COD that hasn't innovated in forever.

G4, if its not cod, its not a 5.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. I will certainly be back'

NOW THE REAL QUESTION WHO WANTS TO PLAY HAZE.....

Fluke_Skywalker2120d ago

Haze was nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be. I actually really liked it.
It was just released at a bad time when Sony and the PS3 could do no right. The developers and Sony over hyped it and it fell on its own sword.

The framerate and rending were more of the concern over resolution for me, and I can see they are making solid strides. Haze runs pretty well and doesn't seem to have many graphical or audio glitches (one cannot say the same for Ghost Recon lol). Given Sony hasn't provided any real backwards compatibility options, this is something I might consider. I still have my PS3 hooked up if I have a hankering for some last gen goodness, but I also wouldn't mind playing those games with either increased resolution or frame rate, whenever the emulator gets to that point :-)
