Recent Xbox Live Issues May Be Result of Attack

Microsoft's Xbox Live team strongly suspects that a systematic denial-of-service attack is responsible for the crippled functionality and performance the network suffered over the past ten days, a source close to Microsoft has confirmed to Primotech.

The attack, carried out by one or more individuals, left a large percentage of Xbox Live's 8 million subscribers with unstable online performance in popular Xbox 360 games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. In addition, many common functions like voice chat, game invites, and even Marketplace browsing, were left severely impaired or completely non-functioning.

my ppl in ms told me a dog hacked into live and bite off some cables

Yeah, blame the hackers, that'll work.

As for their flock, like always start for no reason related to the news damage-control-style attacking Sony in 3, 2, 1..

JsonHenry4034d ago

I would never admit to this if I were Microsoft. I would just say something like " ..we sold so many facking games over the holidays that we were not ready for the millions of dollers... err, new accounts on LIVE that we had to upgrade our servers.."

Never give a hacker ANY credit for ANYTHING. That is what they want. I would rather say I suck big donkey balls than give some piece of sh*t low life hacker the credit for causing me any trouble.

Ill have to agree with JsonHenry its odd they decided to go the "hacker" way since its usually corporate policy never to admit your site or network has its security compromised (specially if it involves money aka access to the users credit cards), reminds me of the Live and STEAM account hacks incident that were later quickly labeled by the respective companies as "problems" that just "happened" to the network ect and had "nothing to do with hackers"

Hackers always go after Microsoft products because they hate them. Even though both Mac's and Linux have vulnerabilities you never hear about them being hacked.

I know I would be pissed off if I was a customer but when I read this all I could imagine was a bunch of pimple-faced geeks dressing up as ninjas and gathering in a secret downstairs basement to concoct this plan.

$5 says they were wearing costumes when they did whatever they did.

haha nice imagination dude.

Neurotoxin4034d ago

Wow Sony Fan Boys will go to great lengths to annoy the 360 folk. ;)

Hmmm. I see twelve year olds have a hard time with sarcasam. Spell it with me now children. S-A-R-C-A-S-A-M. It's okay, Johnney, we don't want to bruise your little ego.

romaink4034d ago

if this is true, I really wouldn't want to be those guys. If MS finds the source of the attack, there's no telling what's gonna happen.
