IGN: Dust 514 is a Glimpse of the Future

IGN: "Does Battlefield in space sound good to you? Thought it might – but Dust 514 is more than that."

Ilovetheps54472d ago

It'll be free so I'll definitely try it out when it comes out. But I'm skeptical about how good it will be. Hopefully it's amazing though.

Jdoki4472d ago

Will be interesting to see. CCP games has been diversifying and expanding a lot over the last few years.

I played EVE Online for a while, and although ultimately it wasn't for me, the core concepts of the game were unlike anything else on the market. I hope that sort of creativity comes through in DUST.

morganfell4471d ago

Dust 514 has been on my radar since 2009. I have been playing Eve for years and the quality of CCP and their ability and willingness to interface with their community is unmatched in gaming.

In terms of what they are doing with Eve and Dust 514, this is next generation gaming. All too often we hear uninformed and shortsighted posters on this site and elsewhere clamoring for new consoles so their graphics will be improved and be "next gen". Good, then we can have nice looking stale games with rinse repeat play in them.

True next gen gaming is about application and vision. Dust 514 has that in spades.

Is worth to watch it, guys. If anyone is following DUST 514.

Too bad most people don't want anything different, judging from the sales. I can't wait for Dust 514 but most shooter fans are just waiting for the chance to play a "new" Call of Duty game.

Simon_Brezhnev4471d ago

Your probably right i wonder if thats the reason they made it free. Hopefully a lot of people try this out.

Hicken4471d ago

I was planning to get it from the moment I heard it would be connected to EVE. I don't know a whole lot about EVE- or didn't before the announcement of Dust514- but I was intrigued from the start to hear about two different games working together that way. That interaction was hard to ignore. of course, I'm glad it'll be free cuz I'm cheap and poor, but I would have paid for it, too.

Virtual_Reality4471d ago

@Hicken

The interaction is going to be kinda limited at first. But CCP will open up the bridge for more interaction once the playerbase is adapted in DUST 514.

Dust 514 is definitely starting to pop up on my radar now after reading that.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3062d ago (Edited 3062d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3062d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3062d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3062d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3062d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3062d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3062d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3062d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
