Super Castlevania IV is the most surreal entry in the series to this day. It also has the best linear gameplay and music. It kicks ass.
If you're going to relive a nightmare, you might as well do it right.
One thing that's been prevalent now more than ever is video game remakes. Dormant series like Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, and System Shock aren't first getting brand-new sequels but remakes of the classic entries. Horror titles are no exception, with the recent Resident Evil, Dead Space, and Silent Hill remakes.
Putting aside whether these remakes are necessary, most of them are excellent. They can expand and enrich the world with added details, improve gameplay mechanics, or put more focus on the story. Standard remakes will count, but story remakes or reimaginings will also be included.
If Castlevania is there as an Horror Game then Demon's Souls should be there as well.
Also, you might want to add Shadow of the Colossus there too. Where you play as a mass murdering genocidal maniac on a warpath.
Even after all these years, Super Castlevania IV is still a fantastic game and the best entry in its old-school iteration.
Still get hyped in the very first level when that music slowly intros and kicks off.
The SNES was probably the best all-around retro console in terms of its game library and the sheer number of hits that were released on the system. It’s no wonder that these 15 games are just a few of the SNES games that hold up today.
Why do these sites always go for the obvious top 10 best Snes games?
There are tons of Snes games that are never mentioned and are still fun to play today.
Games like :
- Super Punch out
- Axelay
- Demon's Crest
- Saturday Slammaster
- Run Saber

- Out of this world

After playing SOTN on the PS1 this game feels so limited, I do have a huge soft spot for it though and will often have a quick play just to swing the whip around a bit. :D
Actually, I kind of agree with caseh. I just replayed this on the virtual console less than two years ago and was very disappointed with it. I think it's seriously over shadowed by the playstation and gameboy advance games.
I haven't played it yet, but being a fan of the GBA and DS games I'll have to get around to playing it.
