“The Last of Us” Looks Awesome

The PlayStation 3 exclusive title “The Last of Us” definitely has a lot of people talking. The survival horror/adventure game being developed by Naughty Dog, takes place in a post apocalyptic world where most of the population has been infected by some sort of virus that turns them into zombie like beings. Like most post-apocalyptic games and movies, the infected attack the uninfected.

Well the game was supposed to be shown at the last e3, and naughty Dog wants to take their time with this one since they felt rushed with U3. I say, let them take their time, so we can get an even more incredible experience. But seeing at e3 would be awesome. Very excited for this game.

Every one of them except the first have had a 18 moth to 2 year cycle and they all turned out to be amazing so if they rushed UC3 and it endedup being as fantastic as it was then this game is gonna blow us away!

Uncharted 2 was pretty hard to follow up on in terms of sheer badassness. They did a great job, but even for me, Uncharted 2 was still more memorable. They're both sick games though.

Uncharted 3 brought up a lot of plot points that it did not answer in the end. Drake is apparently using an alias, but we dont know his real name. Elena and Drake were apparently engaged, but it was only hinted at. It was aslo suggested that sully was not as trustworthy as he seems, but again, that was dropped. Any of these could have added depth to the story and made it seems like an actual sequel instead of an upgrade, but ND could not make that sequel jump like they did from UC1-UC2.

Yeh but Alan wake is about survival, uncharted platforming and then resi 5s ammo and weapon searching. Personally think it would be a good combination as long as there's an emphasis on survival rather than shooting :)

They said before that it was less linear to uncharted, but that does not mean semi-open world, which would be like Dark Souls.

Not all games have to be like this though, and Linear games are great as long as they are done masterfully.

I don't think the game will be very comparable to any of those games. Alan Wake is about the psychological and dark environment scares and the cinematics. Uncharted is about over the top action blockbuster cinematic experience. Resident Evil 5 is about shooting zombies or "las plagas" for most of the game.

So for comparison, The Last of Us does factor in the psychological, but it's mainly about the survival and the grounded humanity aspect of the game and you're not gonna be running through a forest area with a gun for most of the game. It's also not going to be a light-hearted affair like with Uncharted. It will be bleak and very serious. And we already know that the "infected" are not going to be as prominent as the human enemies, so I can't see it being very Resident Evil 5 either.

I guess you could say TLOU implements some gameplay features present in some of those games, but it's meant to form its own identity, you know. Just like those other games have - I don't think there's any need for such comparison.

Naughty Dog has a lot of fans from the Uncharted franchise, and now they have announced a whole new franchise and it looks and sounds interesting.

I don't buy into the over the top "Naughty Gods" thing that so many people on this site seem to go overboard about..... but the fact is they are a quality dev who have delivered with UC so it's natural that they would generate interest with this new game!

Thanks all for the reasonable replies. It seems that the fact Naughty Dog is developing it made it more interesting and hyped. But metsgaming is right , the game actually generated interests before revealing the developer.Maybe because of the genre?

The game didn't go so well but the initially delivery was spot on.

I'd say "The Last of Us" falls into the same category.

It's not alien technology...it's just different than what developers have used in the past. So their is a steeper learning curve.
However this also gives creed to all the rumours that Sony won't be using the Cell in the PS4 because of this.
Seems Sony might take the route of the Vita:
Use off the shelf PC parts that are powerful which translates to easier programming.

Your friend still has a point, regardless of who's developing it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Naughty Dog and I consider myself a fanboy of theirs, but I once considered myself a fanboy of Free Radical, BioWare, and Blizzard as well.

Get excited for the best and prepare for the worst. That way, when it's good, you'll like it even more. And, if it does suck (which I doubt, but the point still stands), you won't be shocked.

So, yeah, there's my advice for the day.

yes but we are talking about an exclusive developer here that Sony lets them take as much time as they need and gives them all the equipment that they need to make a perfect game. They dont rush, they take the time and know what their customers want

don't bring blizzard into this, they are greedy as much as activision is.
Activision wants a COD every year released, which gives a 2 year development for each company...they don't leave them with enough time.

I cant wait to see more on this game, this is definitely my favorite generation as far as console gaming is concerned, just so much variety and content.

Regarding Uncharted 3, I think that it's generally a good sequel to Uncharted 2 with great multiplayer but, for me, there was something rushed about showing a whole vista of buildings at the end and then only allowing you to explore a minute part of it with a new type of enemy hurriedly introduced and then dispensed with in the blink of an eye. It felt too much like a reprise of the second game at the end except without a boss battle. I liked Uncharted 3's more Indiana Jones-like feel though.

I agree with you sir, but we don't have a popular opinion. UC3 felt way more enclosed and smaller scale than Uc2. playing UC2 I felt I was actually in these places in the world that ND was representing. It felt exotic and worldly while UC3 felt more generic in its environments.

Thing is we know ND is way better than that and we know they were rushed because there are many very polished parts of UC3 (like Columbia, The shipyard, and the desert village.)

i just hope that ND learns its lesson that they shouldn't release their game unless its clearly, without a doubt, better than the last game, because there is much debate on whether UC3 is better than UC2, but notice how no one contends that UC2 is better than UC1?

Please take all the timme you need ND, your fans love you and will wait a few extra months if it means a better, polished game.

It was "enclosed" becuase it wasn't about what Drake was after, it was about Drake. UC2 featured a quest for a jewel and a city, UC3 was about a personal journey that just used Iram as a vehicle, not a goal or destination.

I'll take this opportunity to speak up for some distinct things that the first game did that I liked. The jetski sections, unliked it seems by some (and probably by Naughty Dog too as none of the following games had such stop and start vehicles) but I loved that section despite its tricky handling. It was an oasis of relative calm in the game avoiding exploding barrels and I missed not travelling up a river on a vehicle in the subsequent games. There was nothing autopilot feeling about it as a vehicular section (whereas the sequels tended to want to keep you pushing on quickly like a movie). The other part of the game that I liked was the area with the upside down staircases like an M Escher painting.
