Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades takes on the internet and explains the method behind Devil May Cry's new direction
Oh no, please get over yourself... The guy's such a diva
"I'm not trying to design around what I think people will want." This sentence alone makes him bad dev. To succeed, you need to cater to target demography and design around what people will want. When there's demand, there's window of opportunity to provide supply. Well, he said he doesn't care about DMC fanbase(people who bought, loved, and made DMC popular) and is going Call of Duty and Mass Effect way. Does that make him bad businessman, bad game developer and a bad person in overall? DMC could be easily made to cater to both hardcore gamers and mainstream consumers without betraying anyone and raping anything.
When he said that Dante is different than him he mentions "He's MALE". Yeah, Dante is male, and that's why a non-male shouldn't direct the game :p Anyway, Bionic Commando, Resident Evil given to Western devs failed. Dead Rising 2 was undoubtely worse than Dead Rising 1 and DmC will be crap. See the trend? There's a part of the Western gaming Community that like the Japanese attitude of games. Bastardize that attitude ends up badly. For everyone involved. Period. Capcom is to blame for taking a stupid decision. And Ninja Theory are simply not skilled enough. Final thing...running away from Bayonetta is what every Devil May Cry fan feared. He confirmed every fear.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm bookmarking this one so I can come back to it and laugh even harder when DmC flops.
"Devil, Angel, Pioneer" None of the above.
Disagrees? Either someone really thinks he's one of the above or this dude made multiple accounts on n4g. "Take that! This is my game! I'm Dante now!"
DMC needed a savior??
This guy wants us to believe that the resemblance the new Dante bears to him is coincidental?? Come on, just look at him, he's always wanted to be a character in a popular video game and DmC was his opportunity
damn you tameem i hate with all my heart!!!!!!!!! HATE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!
"Philosophically, the way to make a successful game is to believe in what you're doing, then hope that sales follow. I'm not trying to design around what I think people will want" in a way i wish more devs thought like that. why do devs think that us fans wan't to play fucking COD all the time and casualizing our games we grew to love or adding multiplayer to games that don't need it when they were perfectly fine with just a single-player campaign.
Except he is going the cod mainstream way , hoping it will sell , while ignoring others (that part at least is true) . I agree that devs shouldnt cave in to demands and cater to every nitpicks , it's ultimately their game to do . However it is ours to purchase , and in opposite they shouldnt be surprised if their view is deemed to be crap . Besides they did cave a bit at NT , so i'm chuckling when he and the media try to paint NT as some rebels . The first thing they did after the initial outcry and backlash was toning down Dante's design . If fact every time we see a new build of the game , dante's design is changing . Of course games and design do evolve over their development . But it's nature and timing here spells "scaredy cat doing damage control" .
Devil may cry never needed a savior to begin with , as the top 2 seller in its genre , right behind GoW . Further BS sensational titles i see
I agree with everything you say my friend, right now for me though. I'm really exhausted for complaining about this game; I know where the true DMC fans stand, Capcom and Ninja Theory aren't going to change anything, the game will not sell well. For the next Hack n Slash games I'm going to be looking out for MG Rising. If I should so as much as glance at this sorry excuse of a game Tameem has made for a review purpose it'll be once it's used and its $10. I can only hope that if Capcom does another incantation of DMC they'll do it proper and hand it off to a Japanese studio. I guess to close this off at least we'll always have the memories of the Trilogy.
Now it does since it has been taken over by a drama queen. Might as well call it Tameem May Cry. The story about a half drama queen, half sissy developer who tries to reboot a popular / legendary video game franchise by tearing it into pieces and peeing all over it and wonders why it doesn't work out. He has to fight of the fans of the legendary original game and point fingers at as many people as possible so he doesn't need to take responsibility himself for his failure. Tameem May Cry, coming to a bargain bin near you! Rated S for shitting on everyone!
Nice Game Pitch! I can't help but feel through the article he makes a lot of references to movies (Batman Reboot, Star Wars). It makes me think he wants this whole project to be like a movie mixed in with heavy combat, I won't say there isn't a place for story driven games such as Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, I will say however if you want to go that route and mix in something that doesn't belong then it's simply a big case of lost identity.
it's no secret he is obsessed with making games turn into movies . Problem are : 1 . games with better gameplay still propose the same level of storytelling if not better 2. Trying to force the issue in an action game genre , without yet having proven he could even provide good action game gameplay to begin with . Just imagine the reactions if Bioshock was all plot and mediocre gameplay ? 3. Despite multiple claims of him and his studio innovating , where are the new stuff and mechanics ? Going all "storytelling" isnt one , and isnt new . It's just a focus
Thank you, only if I could say the same about DMC. Lost identity is one thing and being clueless is another. This dude clearly has no idea what he is doing and I have no idea what Crapcom's agenda is since they have agreed to a lot of the changes if not maybe even instigated some. My key issue is changing the definition, discription and purpose of something when you don't need to and doing it to make things worse as supposed to better. I.e. person A invents the wheel. It is round and serves the purpose of making travel easier. Person B "reinvents" the wheel making it oval claiming it is better. Somethings do not reinventing or rebooting. They are as they are and serve their purpose. DMC is what it is due to its Japanese quirkiness, gameplay and it's character. This is the reason why it is successful and loved by so many. With the number of changes to all the above, why not just make it a new IP and save yourself the trouble?
