DICE: “We Can See The Need and Urge For More” Close Quarters Maps

DICE has been in the crosshairs of a number of upset fans lately. Why you ask? Reading the comment section of most articles pertaining to the upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC, Close Quarters, will tell you that there are those Battlefielders who aren’t too happy with the direction DICE is taking this time around. Tight, infantry-based combat, admittedly, isn’t what the Battlefield franchise has become all that known for and there are those that will express feelings of betrayal.

God no, please no more CC maps. THe only reason why most people play CC maps now is because it's easy to rank up.

F7U124840d ago (Edited 4840d ago )

After reading this BS and still dealing with day 1 issues that DICE has taken its sweet time in fixing if the latest patch doesn't fix hit detection and all the major gripes I'll have no problem uninstalling this from my comp. I'm giving DICE one last chance and if they fail yet again, I'm done. It's been 5 months since BF3 was released and we're still dealing with day one issues, come on it's beyond ridiculous at this point.

Persistantthug4840d ago (Edited 4840d ago )

But you'd be unfair to suggest that DICE should ignore the people that like the small and more linear maps & team deathmatch stuff.

I mean, they ran the numbers and found out that METRO is THE MOST popular map.

Those people that like that kind of stuff should get addressed.
Others have already been addressed with the Karkand expansion.....it's the other guys turn now.....don't be selfish bro.....your turn will be up again :)

Problem is that those large maps by Battlefield's standards aren't anywhere near the size of older BF maps. BF3 maps have been shrunk drastically, and the importance of Conquest flags has drastically been made insignificant in favor for a more linear or closer flag placement experience.

The fact that Metro is the most played is bull. Metro games finish faster than other maps due to size, and the fact is that Metro is played to rank up real fast. The map is terrible and by no means a good indication of what the standard should be or is regardless of if its most played or not-- Metro is popular for high KDR and XP, simple fact.

And when it comes to the actual DLC, if DICE wanted CQC, they didn't need to jam players into a room. My biggest problem is that the game just isn't built for the COD-emulating that they are doing-- I predict RPG spamming to be a major issue, as well as the spawning system just not working for this sort of experience. Play Oasis from BC2 for a good CQC experience that didn't rely on the funnelling system of Metro.

Fact is that DICE advertised the game one way ("You dont beat COD by being COD", "biggest maps ever") yet they went back on that, and it's on top of the fact that they never completely delivered on what they were originally supposed to anyway. That's why a lot of people are fed up

Battlefield is supposed to represent something, and this recent DLC doesn't do that. For the same reason I would dislike to see MAG do a 16 player map pack, I dont want to see DICE do this, it's not a matter of selfishness, it's an issue of the developers continuing to try and sell out to the "lower threshold" that they want to capitalize a buck off of while allowing the real issues to persist. Sure, we're getting the Armoured Kill DLC, but that comes out in like September, almost a whole year after BF3's original release. They've scaled the game back a whole lot from all the promises they made, and when you have a game that strips most of what made the predecessor so great, I can completely understand why fans are upset when DICE decides to ignore all that and pull this out.

chadachada1234839d ago

The main reason that it's the most popular map, though, is because of how easy it is to rank up on that map compared to others. It's not that the gameplay is most-fun on that map over others.

The numbers show people grinding, not what people like the most. Eliminate points for a week and THEN see which maps are the most-played, and I will bet my soul it won't be Op Met.

Persistantthug4839d ago (Edited 4839d ago )

I understand what you like, and that's great.....
But you have no justification or righteous factor to pretend that you know what other people SHOULD or do like.

I myself like to jump into the raw carnage of METRO and the 'market hallway' map ( I forget name). Yes I like Caspian & KAARG the most, but sometimes I want the 'clusterfucccage' of those narrow passages every now & then just for the chaotic fun.

You can't tell me I'm wrong for that....you can't tell anyone else their wrong for that.

I'm sorry you don't personally have fun with that....but next time, I'm sure your 'fun' will be addressed.

Until then, you have plenty of maps. Let the people that enjoy them have fun.

well Dice i can see the need and the urge to STOP playing Battlefield 3!!!

Close Quarters is just a Demo whore for the Frostbite 2 engine and a complete transformation to being a Call of Duty clone!

thank goodness Planetside 2, Firefall, Line of Defense, Carrier Command, and Arma III are coming!

I'm sick of Call of Duty clones and DICE has lost it's innovative touch by trying to clone COD every chance they get.

We get it DICE. It's about making money and being successful. It's a shame you had to turn your backs on the fanbase that made your games so popular. Enjoy your new crowd that ruined BF3.

P.S. Before people start sticking up for them and saying that this is just one DLC pack, please realize that Battlefield should not have close quarters maps in the first place.

Fylus4840d ago

Totally agree. I admit, some of the more fun moments I've had on BF3 happen in OpMetro, but even so, NOTHING can beat the experience of driving a vehicle through a massive map and capturing every objective in sight.

BlackTar1874840d ago

i dunno i have played since 1942 and driving thru a huge map and getting all the flags sounds like a boring 1/2 empty game :)

Im just being a jerk.

I don't want to CQC maps but to late now.

b163o14840d ago

I completely understand where everyone is coming from, I love BF period. The maps, the vehicles, and the gadgets. What I'm not understanding is "if you don't like the DLC why download it?"

nolifeking4840d ago

Actually Battlefield can have whatever types of maps it wants. The game facilitates all types of firefights, so I really don't see why a change of pace would be so frowned upon. When BF goes the way of strictly CQ, then we, as a fan base have something to complain about.

Hell, the last DLC that was released was to shut the "Battlefield is all about the big maps." up. What's worst is how easy this is to avoid.

BlackTar1874840d ago

b163o1

because that means if your friends like it or you just want to play they are going to throw them in the rotation which is what i like since i am buying it but you wil get booted all the time.

I have a buddy that does not have the DLC currently and when he is not with us we play the new maps like 1 ever 6-10
when he is with us its every next map like its done on purpose. I dunno im not saying it is but its rather annoying.

If Battlefield 3 would have had some close quarters maps I might have been interested. They should do some and drop vehicles from those maps altogether.

BlackTar1874840d ago

just stay with COD then. Not being a jerk but i don't want my BF ruined of everything because of people can't learn to co-exist with the vehicles.

Kaos_Vll4840d ago

sounds like you are one of those people who can't get a kill unless you are in a vehicle. still can't believe people play an FPS to kill others with vehicles. how is that skillful? half the people in bf3 just want to use vehicles to mask their lack of skill. are you one of those?

caboose324840d ago

@Kaos_Vll

Battlefield has ALWAYS been about vehicles.

If you are going to bitch and moan that everyone always uses them then play another game.

scrambles4840d ago

Theres infantry mode, team death match, metro, grand bazaar, seine crossing, damavande peak. All those maps are extremely infantry based with very few vehicles per side. what more do you want?

4840d ago
h311rais3r4840d ago

Why do t they make a city map? Gunplay is close quarters with long roads for snipers and allow vehicles with Helis flying between an above buildings! But no they go cod cod so I'm not buying another bf until its bf again

Absolutely insane. Man I'm hope they land on their feet EA needs to get the shit together badly....

This is why this industry has slow releases and none compelling games.

127maXimus49d ago

Why would anyone willingly work in the VG industry or specifically for one of these globocorp organizations that put you in constant fear of losing your livelihood based on terrible choices made by idiotic management, not the people with talent making the actual games?
