This is a column by Kat Bailey dedicated to the analysis of the once beloved Japanese RPG sub-genre. Tune in every Wednesday for thoughts on white-haired villains, giant robots, Infinity+1 swords, and everything else the wonderful world of JRPGs has to offer.
Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!
Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.
Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.
I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company's Pokemon Gen 10, codenamed Gaia, will be exclusive to the upcoming Switch 2, based on a new rumor.
Is anyone expecting anything less? It will be exclusive to Switch 2 eventhough it will still look like a 3DS game
not surprised.
nintendo was prepared to have some games sell the console.
im sure the game will still look like its from the ps2 era tho.
I've lost interest in pokemon, the mega evolve stuff was a poor digimon rip off, then the stuttering mess the 3d versions are.
I'd love a remake of gold/silver in a top down view like lets go pikachu had, but sticking with the traditional pokemon mechanics.
Pokecology is a real book based on the behavioral science and ecology of Pokemon, and it's coming (to Japan) in mid-June.
The article exposes that the author lacks adequate understanding in the videogame industry. The opening portion labels Japanese RPGs as a "sub-genre" when there is in fact no such genre/sub-genre as Japanese RPGs or JRPGs.
When the term Japanese RPGs/JRPGs is used, it is in reference to an industry sector which develops computerized RPGs within Japan. It covers multiple genres, including PC Style RPGs, Turn Based RPGs, Action RPGs, Strategy RPGs, and more. Saying Japanese RPGs are a genre is the same as saying American Sports TV shows are a genre, when that is in fact also a sector of the broadcasting industry - not a genre.
