Why videogames need celebrity

360.mmgn: Let’s look at the current cabal of independent developers who are held up as lone champions of their own style. We’ve got Jonathan Blow (Braid), Jenova Chen (Journey), Eric Chahi (From Dust), Jason Rohrer (Passage) and many more, all of whom would presumably be very capable of leveraging their ‘celebrity’ status within the industry to raise funds, without publisher support, for new projects and titles. Small teams and individuals raised over $8 million using Kickstarter for videogame projects so far.
