Report - GAME puts itself up for sale

MCVUK- GAME has hired Rothschild to find a buyer for the beleaguered retailer, The Sunday Times reports.

The paper writes that GAME has to pay landlords in two weeks. Failure to pay rents could push the firm into administration jeopardising thousands of jobs.

Damn. I used to work at GAME before I moved to the US. I was fortunate enough to work in a successful store with great people and customers. What a shame...

Game are just way too expensive, they overprice used games, new games are significantly cheaper online.
Much of the time they dont have a large amount of stock for new releases.
Game is a joke, Ive never had a good experience in their stores.

Developers talking about leaving the UK, GAME putting itself up for sale.....these are tough times for the gaming industry in the UK.

I disagree BattleAxe .. Game pushed out alot small personal gaming shops
Once they did that they stopped given people good trade in deals got greedy.

Only one thing has come good from this thats for thoes able to buy online we have better ways to sell and buy our games for less or sell for more.
Play.com best for selling used as well as new but I personally favour shopto.net for new.
No im glad game going under if they respected there customers more gave better deals they may have had a place, instead they chased every small indipendant games retailer out force there prices up.

But thanks for the respect there man bubble to you.

Oh don't get me wrong, the only reason I'm saddened by the news is, as Reborn stated, the fact that some good friends of mine will more than likely be out of jobs soon.
Although that being said, we were a successful store with great customers and clientele. Guess we were one of the lucky ones.

Never trust anyone with the last name of Rothschild.

The jobs part is indeed, saddening. However, I would delve straight into their management, and marketing team. It all boils down to the way they price. It's even worse since they also own GameStation. So they could've had a munch more 'flexible' pricing method.

GameStation was dominant years ago. GAME came a long, and forgot how about competition. Especially with more online retailers selling games too. Gamestation just became another 'branch'. Offering nothing different.

On a side note, it would be a good step to hire people with actual knowledge about what their selling. When you asked a question, if the answer wasn't on the back of the box, then you'd have to find out yourself. (ofc informed consumer also works)

cool story bro.. I buy all my games online on marketplace sites like ShopTo, Play, Amazon, eBay & CeX

There's only a few occasions where I'd go into a high-street games shop.. & that's when I'd need said game/s on the same day for whatever reason.

High Street and Supermarkets Still Dominate Boxed Games Market

Gamer Headlines writes: I’d like to think that we UK gamers are quite savvy when it comes to finding the best deal when buying games. And let’s face it; everything is generally cheaper online from the vast number of websites like Amazon, ShopTo, Zavvi, Game Collection and deal forums like HotUkDeals when comparing prices to high street stores like Game, HMV, Argos or the local supermarket.

Well gamers, it would seem that more than half of all physical games are still sold in traditional bricks and mortar establishments according to last year’s stats.

I thought HMV had shut down in the UK

bggriffiths3693d ago

A lot of stores did. But they saved a few after they found a buyer for the company. Just this week though, they announced they're ditching their pre-owned games department.

I bet most of the consoles sold in high streets and supermarkets are bought by parents (in other words, the uninformed buyers)
