"Final Fantasy V is often credited as being the last Final Fantasy title directed by series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. This is technically false. Following the success of the industry changing Final Fantasy VII, Sakaguchi decided to take back the reigns of the series he helped create, and branch it off into a bold new direction. With a whole new film studio, four years of development, and a budget of nearly $140 million, Sakaguchi and co. embarked on a labor of love that resulted in one of the most ambitious undertakings in animated film history. The fruits of their effforts resulted in 2001′s Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
