BF3 custom servers for PS3, Xbox 360 may cost $300 per year

Product Reviews: The announcement of three new expansion packs for Battlefield 3 was surely news to celebrate, but there was also one major announcement for console players – confirmation from DICE that you’ll soon be able to rent and create custom private servers on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

If you play the PC version, you’ll know that this feature has been available from launch and it obviously gives a lot more freedom to PC players and lets them decide what kind of specific features they want added or restricted on a particular map.

This is a Dedicated Server. Also, clans aren't just for PC gaming, Console players enjoy competitive play as well and would like to kick morons from the server. Also console players aren't just kids, adults play AND have money to buy/donate towards a server.

I'm a BF3 PC player, but even I can see the great potential in doing this. We usually spend $550-650 for a year for 1 64man server so $300 is about right.

What specs are on the server to support 64 people?

It seems overkill to rent an entire server....

Those of us with money and people that want team players. I have no issue dropping the cash for this. Not only do I get a fast server but with admin ability I can insure there are no lone wolves that jump in who want to experiment with flying a helo to the edge of the map and skydiving. You don't want to join a squad, be a team player, provide that oft needed respawn point? Goodbye.

Doing this on the PC is nothing so I don't think twice about the console version.

I'd rather buy a PS Vita, then buy a simple server.

I'd imagine a clan of 50 guys would do it. 6$ a piece then you get to control your own maps.

This is normal, and quite probably worth it

That's the cost of 5 more new release games! Erm, thanks but no thanks Dice!
