Selling 330,000 copies of Mario Party DS a week in Japan is impressive, to say the least, but when the nation is snapping up nearly as many Nintendo DS handhelds in the same time frame, it goes a long to explaining the resurgence. Final Fantasy IV's portable availability probably didn't hurt.

You ever heard of Sega? They had the majority of consoles sold in america, and europe but were dominated in japan by Nintendo and in the end lost to Nintendo. Don't say Japan it's needed because at the end of console war they make up 25-30% of the market.

If you logic is correct.. then companies should only concentrate on the regions they are doing well... that means Sony should also quit in Japan... since by the look at how the wii is rapping Sony and Microsoft Sony does not look good at all...

Its a totally different market.
Its aimmed at people who don't usally use consoles, families and young kids.
Most games on PS3 and 360 are rather violent and I wouldn't want my young kids (12 and under) playing them.
Plus I think parents like the idea that the kid is moving round more why playing on the Wii than they would on the other ones.
Its fine by me, because in the years to come, these same kids are going to be looking for new stuff to play, and they'll probably want something with better graphics.

Hey, off topic.. but..
I just bought COD4 today and it just is terrible compared to UT3... Am I strange for thinking this? O_o(PS3 btw) I played both online and offline, online was fun for awhile, but got boring, and offline was extremely annoying.. in order for me to run into the doorways and crap i have to be right in the middle, and if im just too far to one side it wont let me through. I loved the offline mode until i started playing as marines. I guess I just prefer the more... stealthy approach. Not being anti-american as I am an american myself, but invading that TV station as a marine sucked. I wish we coulda had some SEALs or something do that...

I guess I'm also weird for preferring to be outnumbered by alot.. and would rather do that than have equal to greater numbers and charge in and just send the place to hell. Meh... I cant wait until SOCOM 4 comes out... (Not the online-only one, though I do want that)

I'm not so sure about looks, but some of the objects in COD4 do look like they could be in a PS2 game =X Then again, this is also after seeing Uncharted... I don't think UT3 exactly has the best graphics.. The texture loading is annoying to me, but all games on the UE are like that. UTIII is really the only FPS I can actually play. Get me that flak cannon, sniper, or hte link gun and Im all set(or the rocket launcher of course :D).. on COD4 I just simply cant play it... the game really gets on my nerves.. it's annoying and I cant throw grenades very far either!! :( I'm too used to SOCOM and UT3 I suppose.

Anyways, I'm taking it back tomorrow, what game should I get?
I have Oblivion, Warhawk, UTIII, All the PSN games, and Resistance.
Not R&C as it's not really my kinda game, and I don't want Uncharted, my friend has it and I play it at his house all the time! :P

I'm happy ps3 sales have increased but remember these are December sales.the ps2 in it's second holiday used to sell 200,000 a week. comparing that to what the ps3 is selling now....well it's disastrous.

low ps3 sales are even affecting Japanese 3rd parties as the ps family was their first source of income in japan. and as you can see most 3rd party game released on the wii have tanked in sales. most games selling on the wii are Nintendo games.

the other problem for japanies companies is that their is no alternative to the ps3. they only have the 360 and we all know how bad it's been doing in japan.

what i'm saying that low ps3 in japan are not affecting sony alone, it's affecting the whole Japanese gaming industry. so it's for the sake of the ps3 and 360 that ps3 sales got a much bigger boost than this. cause then developers will keep supporting the ps3 and hey there's no harm in releasing the same game on the Xbox cause who knows maybe the game will sell well in north America

my only fear is that after the holidays ps3 sales will go back to the 20,000 a week they once were. i don't want any major franchises to go the wii way. as for wii.... I'll just buy ninteno games just like everybody else.

How many games from Japanese companies have been released for the PS3 so far?

All the big title games like MGS4, GT5, DMC4, FF(what ever the number is now) are still to come out. You won't make money from something until you release it. plus I'm sure when these games do come out, the sales of PS3 will go through the roof in Japan.

this is exactly the problem. nothing has been released cause japanese companies really don't know wether to support the system or not. now the games you mentioned are big frnachises that were being developed even before the sysem was released. example can you name 5 decent RPG games coming in the next year, i can't. it's really expinsive developing for the ps3 and developers need to sell a minimum number of xx unites to break even.

now compare weekly japanese ps3 sales to weekly ps3 sales in europe and america. hell, even in america where the the system is proclaimed as a fialure it's seeling +120,000 a week, add a whole month up(480,000 for those lazy to do so) and ps3 is selling 4 times more than it is selling in japan.

ps2 had many mid budget RPG games and adventure games released. they weren't milllion sellers but they sold enough to incourage a comany to relese more games for the system. and two games of the ones that you mentioned are not exactly system sellers in japan. they sell well mind you but they don't sell systems. at least not to a Halo level.

i really hope i'm wrong. Japanese rps games are my favorite genre. and i want more of them on either ps3 or the 360
