Preliminary Japanese Sales for the Week Ending Dec 23rd, 2007

VG Chartz - 12/24/07:

"When compiling weekly data for Japan, ioi uses a bevy of sources. By Sunday Night (East Coast USA time), both first day data and preliminary weekly data is available for analysis. Taking both into account, here is an early take on how some of the figures will look this week. These figures are not to be taken as gospel, just an early take on approximately where the market will be for the week."

DS and Wii hardware sales depend on supplies, i.e., how many units Nintendo has deemed necessary for allocation to the Western markets during the Christmas shopping season.

Hardware sales estimates (units sold given as a range):

1. DS: 275,000 ~ 325,000
2. Wii: 175,000 ~ 225,000
3. PSP: 140,000 ~ 165,000
4. PS3: 45,000 ~ 60,000
5. PS2: 22,000 ~ 32,000
6. 360: 8,000 ~ 12,000

"Software sales are through the roof this week. The preliminary data shows twenty titles with sales above 25,000 units this week – and seven titles with sales of 100,000 or greater."

There were no PS3 or Xbox 360 titles (including Gran Turismo 5: Prologue) in the preliminary top twenty this week.

Top software sales estimates (units sold given as a range):

• Mario Party (DS): 345,000 ~ 405,000

Infact, where did the PS3 go (and ofcourse 360) on the software chart?

TANOD4046d ago

last week they said that PS3 sold between 30 000 --38000 units

in reality PS3 sold over 63 000 units

X360 sold 8+k last week in Japan

VG predicted 9---12k for X360

mark VGCHARTS figs as SPAM rather

they are totally inconsistent

testerg354045d ago

But I've seen you mostly post VGCHARTZ.. ??????

Today marks the first time I've agreed with The MART. Wii is slowing progression with the video game industry. I must have the old school approach to gaming as I don't feel like getting up and slinging my body around to play a game majority of the time. Old dated graphics with so so gameplay. I own a Wii and I'm not impressed with it in the least. But one thing it has going for it is that it does get your visitors playing. Guests have a hard time playing the PS3 non-downloaded games (reason I started grabbing some of the downloaded titles too - casual gamer stuff).

Nintendo rules Japan, what a sad state the gaming industry currently is in

felman874046d ago

I fail to see why Nintendo being on top makes the state of gaming so terrible.

Power of Blu4046d ago

It doesn't. Sadly Zhuk only has time for Microsoft. He's in his own little world, just ignore him like 90% of this site does.

TheMART4046d ago

Well I can understand what Zhuk is saying.

Wii hardware = Gamecube stuff just overclocked with a motion sensing controller. They could have made it for the Wii and have the same end result in games.

Wii games = only 1st party games are good. 3rd party support doesn't sell also. Wii again is like the Gamecube in software: only if you like Mario or Zelda it's the right system for you.

That system on top, is pretty strange. People buy it, play a bit Wii sports, get bored, maybe buy a Mario game and that's it. The (3rd) party game industry isn't winning. Only Nintendo is. Gaining on hardware and 1st party games.

Gaara_7244046d ago

u're just pissed coz everything is sellin more than 3 times the xbox 360's god what happend to THE NEXT GEN?? THE PS2 IS OUT SELLIN IT (even tho the ps2 is the greatest)

Zhuk4046d ago

The Xbox 360 is the only thing that can save the gaming world from the tyranny and disaster the Wii brings to gamers. The Xbox 360s many AAA titles and true next generation and award winning features represent the finest gaming experience known to man and is the benchmark which everyone follows.

Wii is only aiding the devolution of our hobby and stands in the way of progress, it also degrades the quality of gaming by offering games that are even poorer than the worst of the PS3 exclusives (garbage like lair and heavenly sword)

Two gamecube's duct taped together and shoved inside a toaster case that's packaged with a power glove (aka Wii garbage console) is nothing but a cancer on the gaming industry

Captain Tuttle4046d ago (Edited 4046d ago )

I needed a laugh today...thanks. "The tyranny of the Wii"...classic.

I do agree with Mart in that Nintendo is the only company benefiting from the Wii's success. And that's not good for the industry as a whole.

Bathyj4046d ago (Edited 4046d ago )

Completely ignoring Zhuk's typically stupid 2nd comment, and I cant believe I'm going to say this, but I actually agree with his first comment.

Apart from Zelda, Metroid and Mario, and maybe a few others to boring to mention Wii games are nearly all gimmicky trash designed not to challenge or entertain gamers, but to pull in non gamers who see the Wiimote as some sort of brilliant control device and their compilations of minigames aseasy to pick up for anyone.

Great you say, whats the problem? The problem is Nintendo have all but turned their backs on gamers. They dont care about us anymore. They only care about their new market of non gamers which is suddenly turned them to huge profits after struggling for 2 generations.

And lets face it, the control isn't innovative, its constraining, thats why only a couple of games have made any good use of it. Its a gimmick and a fad and doesn't work on most games. And what would the actual hardware be without this gimmick? A joke. A gamecube 1.25, not even a 1.5.

Now I actually dont begrudge the Wii or Nintendo success except for a couple of reasons. The first one is selfish. Nintendo used to be a company I could look to for a slow trickle of great games. I guess they still are but nothing really interest me from them anymore. Even the few games that will probably be good. They just seem to be all about casual games now. I've had a Wii since launch but all I have is Zelda. I want to play Mario and Metroid one day but I just feel the other 2 deserve my money more and I've probably bought about a game a week for the last 3 months and Nintendo have missed out.

But thats fine I still have PS3 and Xbox so I can put that aside. My big problem is what happens next gen? What if real games stop selling? What if hardcore dies? What if Sony and M$ say, lets not push the hardware next gen, people dont want cutting edging technology, they dont want amazing grapics or sound. They want cheap games on cheap consoles where you swing a tennis racquet by swinging your arms so let just take this gens machine and whack a wiimote on it.

That will be a sad day for gaming my friends and this gamer who has been playing for nearly 3 decades will have to find another hobby if it ever happens.

PS. its just gone midnight here in Australia so Merry Christmas y'all. Yes even you guys I dont like very much, (you know who you are). Everyone have a great day with lots of food and I hope you got a new game or two. And for fellow Aussies, 1 more sleep til the Boxing Day Test. WOOHOO. Tremble India.

ParaDise_LosT4046d ago

When a game like
WiiFit Out sells games like GT5 and Lost Odyssey...
I definitely DO see something wrong with the gaming industry....
In japan I mean...

cmrbe4045d ago

Hating on the wii because most of the fears you guys have are unfounded. The wii is not brining the industry down. Last time i check this has been a record sales year for the industry. The wii is not taking fans away nor it is forcing the developers to develop "SOLELY" for the wii. Can someone tell me a developer that has switched and developed solely for the wii?. In its two years on the market the wii has only poached 1 PS3 game and thats it. Why because developers know the money is with the harcore market and they can't develop hidef games on the wii anyways. The wii should be applauded for expanding the gaming market by bringing in more gamers.

I'm surprised that GT5 Prologue dropped out of the chart so quickly -- oh hang on... this is an ESTIMATE. Wtf this isn't news.
