Beck writes: "Do you remember the days of Quake and Unreal Tournament? Do you remember when first person shooters focused more on fast and chaotic gameplay instead of strategic and cinematic set pieces? Well reminisce no longer as Illfonic has picked up the license to Nexuiz, AlienTrap’s 2005 open sourced PC title, and is bringing gamers a modern iteration of the franchise using Crytek’s CryEngine 3. Could it this be a blast from the past, or sink back into our memories as something that should be locked away?"
Nexuiz launched as a PC and console game 10 years ago, but the downfall of THQ lead to problems for the inspirational title.
Remember Nexuiz, the arena first-person shooter pulled from Steam three years ago after publisher THQ went bust? It's back.
Developer IllFonic has self-published the game on Steam, where it costs £7.99 (it's £3.99 until 22nd March).
Didn't get around to playing it until after the community died. Great to see it back.
The aftershock of THQ's dissolution continues, as servers for the Xbox 360 version of Nexuiz have been shut down. Developer Illfonic announced the news on its Facebook page, noting that the servers were being run by THQ and "cannot be maintained anymore." The PC servers, however, will remain online courtesy of Illfonic itself.
That's a shame, I loved this game but guess I won't be able to complete the achievements now.
