Lol at disagree's, I love mine too. Never had a better phone.

maniacmayhem4807d ago

This what should be compared to the iPhone not the Vita.

I hope Sony continues to support this device and maybe make another model that fixes the author's issues and improves on the design a little bit more.

Soldierone4807d ago

I think the phone will improve leaps and bounds when PlayStation Suit gets going.

Reviewing a phone that came out a year ago??

Smashbro294807d ago

Get an Android and a Vita. MUCH better.

I have the Xperia Play and a Vita....so much fun playing GTA3 with actual controls and not a touchscreen.

Alright, so they have a good phone. Though, i would debate whether it is as good as an iphone or samsung nexus, though the controller is nice. So, why not follow through on the tablet end too, or the PS vita. Most gamers are technical nerds like myself. No, i don't live in a basement, and yes, i work 40+ hours a week but i love my new nexus, and my ipad (i actually upgraded an iphone to the nexus. IMO, it is a superior device). Now, they are making an announcement soon for the ipad 3. It is rumored to boast a quad core processor with 2500x1500 resolution, allowing it's tech to remain at the head of the class. Many have purchased the vita already but many have not. With this type of power, the ipad 3 will now b able to play games similar to current gen consoles like the vita. But, it also has a market with half a million apps, as well as being able to do so much more on a gorgeous display.

I was so hoping that playstation could have teamed up with someone to create a tablet, or atleast offer the benefits of an android tablet. Instead of trying to compete with the 3ds, it should have gone head to head with the ipad. I really think many gamers would have been on board. I think we can all agree that this IS the direction that gaming is headed. And with the number of games and the bad economy, most people cannot afford a phone, a tablet and a mobile gaming device. Yes, it may be great for younger people that don't benefit from all the perks of the tablet, but i don't think this was Sony's intended target audience. I hope they do well because they need it. I love my ps3 and i know that sony cannot afford to keep losing money. I just think that they are a little behind the curve on this one.

What the iPad2 (not 3) lacks is what the Xperia and Vita have: controls designed for gaming. Power is useless without an effective way to apply it, and it doesn't matter if the iPad2 has 50 quad cores if it lacks the controls to properly apply them to gaming.

That's what this is about, right? Gaming?

Can you say for certain that your Nexus or iPad is a superior gaming device when compared to a Vita or Xperia? Based on your comment, you have little to no experience with either one, so that answer SHOULD be no. Then again, even if you DID have experience with them, your answer should STILL be no, as only silly people truly believe that the gaming you get on mobile devices is in the same league as gaming on something that DESIGNED to game on.

The Vita is a Sony, yes. More importantly, however, it's a Playstation. And the Playstation name is synonymous with gaming. Why, then, would they make the Playstation Vita a tablet in competition with the iPad and other tablets?

I THINK Sony known gaming. And I THINK Sony knows the core, and that their consumers are primarily from this core. I THINK, based on all its abilities, the Vita is aimed at that core; the Xperia Play is aimed at the smartphone/mobile community, while still offering the ability(through physical controls) to competently play games. This is something no other smartphone and no tablet can boast.

Don't wish the Vita was something it's not intended to be, and then find yourself somehow disappointed. That's only your own fault. The Vita is what it is: a dedicated gaming handheld. The closest to what YOU want out of Sony is the Xperia. And until you give it a shot, it's a little premature to say Sony's behind anything.

joab7774806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

Maybe i wasn't clear. I don't want the vita to simply b a 9" tablet with no controls. I applauded the phone for what it did. If someone is going to buy a phone and they love gaming they have a legitiamte choice in the xperia without sacrificing the benefits of buying a phone. Obviously, someone who wants a phone isn't gonna buy a ds. They will buy a phone. Now, they have the option to buy a phone with pretty good gaming control, the best of both world's.

This is my point. People who want to buy a tablet for a myriad number of reasons are not going to buy a vita. But, if like the xperia, it offered the benefits of a tablet, many gamers would jump at it instead of buying an ipad because they would get the best of both worlds. I loved seeing different apps and the browser on the vita. I want it to succeed. I'm just saying that this isn't the world that the ds or the psp (both of which i have so i know what mobile gaming devices do) came into. Gaming is moving mobile. I just think that maybe they missed a great opportunity. It may feature some apps etc but only hardcore gamers and those that bought it will know. I guess they could have tried to reach a larger market. I just think that their competition is no longer simply Nintendo and they realized this with the xperia.

I never said that the ipad has better controls or games etc. But, mobile gaming is huge now and taking up alot of people's time. Also, triple a titles on consoles and pc are more than abundant. I'm just wondering how many gamers with a pc, xbox, ps3, ipad and iphone will buy the vita that markets itself on console type games with high prices as the main feature. I hope i am wrong. But, u cannot deny the fact that if the vita had everything it does now but also an android market and marketed itself as both a mobile console and a tablet, the future of gaming, that it wouldn't do better amongst a larger target audience...like the xperia.

Soldierone4805d ago

No, any actual gamer will know the 3DS and Vita are built for games. It will get REAL games, it has REAL controls. There are phones out there right now with ten times the power of PSP (heck the Xperia Play has nearly triple the power) yet the most we have seen use that power is GTA3. Now let's go play that game on a tablet or touchpad and compare it to actual controls on the Xperia Play....

This is the point, Sony didn't want to go head to head with Apple because that isn't what the Vita is. It's a GAMING DEVICE, not a tablet. Why target the tablet world if all that will happen is the Apple paid journalists will compare the two and somehow give Apple the win? That already happens and Vita isn't even targeting them yet.

If you want to be a gamer you will buy the Vita. What tablet (other than Sony ones) have the ability to work with the PS3 and TV's with no problem or added over priced peripheral? What tablet will be getting Sony made games? Will be getting AAA high budget titles? Will be getting continued support for AT LEAST 5 to 10 years?

Now which one has a buttload of processors, still no controller, is priced extremely high, thinks Angry Birds is the best game ever invented, and boasts all the casual experiences apps offer? Oh lets not forget by this time next year a new one will be out with slightly better specs....Also don't forget that half these "developers" for Apps are making rip offs or half arsed games...

I think you are right with it having a market it will be able to hit a bigger audience, but then it would be looked at as nothing more than a tablet with a controller on it. They don't want that and Sony's marketing is perfect. Play PS3 at home, take Vita on the road.

As for high priced games you are forgetting PlayStation Suit isn't out yet, which will be Sony's own little App store. You buy something on it and you get it on every platform you own (tablet, Vita, Xperia etc) and the prices will be like PSP Mini's, small and cheap.

joab7774804d ago (Edited 4804d ago )

Suite is a great idea and i know that apple will always win. Mainly because as a tablet, it is unparalleled... at the moment. We are already seeing phones come out that are superior to iphone and the ios. Do not underestimate google. They don't play under the same restrictions. I agree that the vita is the hardcore gamers choice. I guess what i want for sony is more. If it has an android market or the equivalent, then as i mentioned, the broad scope of gamers will b the new target audience and that must b good for sony. And if by chance, the future of gaming is apple and google, sony will b in the game too.

I just don't want to see it fail because of unintended competition and scare off the next hardcore mobile gaming console. I just believe that eventually they will have to try it to compete financially. Also, i believe that apple and google will be making more hardcore games to tap into another audience they havnt hit yet. Great reply. I love to blindly speculate, lol.

I think the PSP was weird in itself. I mean the tech was cool and all with the UmD, but Sony often pushes its own media with their consoles and doesn't always find success. The memory stick duo was and is expensive as hell.

brettnll3510d ago

I agree. What a weird idea lol. Seems like they were mainly just trying to be unique.

parentsbasement3510d ago

I wouldn't call any of that "weird"....the book thing maybe...

brettnll3510d ago

It's not always the device that's the weird part. Could also be the timing (PSP Go) and the lack of marketing (PSTV). Makes you really wonder what was the point of following through with releasing these things. Xperia phone could have been something special, then Sony didn't fully support it. WHY!? lol. Just weird.

Wonderbook is weird, but that easy platinum though!

WitWolfy3510d ago

I cant get over this dudes comb over.

brettnll3510d ago

Comb over? Never heard that before lol =]

I used to own a psp..first 1000 then 2000 then 3000 then after that I had a psp go and then I finally got a ps vita brand new..then lost that and the later in the year or month got a new used version of the Vita...so the journey has been really out there for me for the systems I used to own..all of them were great in there own special way..

The Top 8 Android Phones of 2013 | The Hardcore Gamer’s Guide to Android Phones

Even as the power of mobile devices is outpacing Moore’s Law, and graphics power seems to double every year, it’s a sad fact that phones simply aren’t marketed toward gamers. Walk into a phone store and ask a rep about a phone’s CPU. If you’re lucky, they might tell you how many cores it has, but getting a real idea about a phone’s performance is going to require some independent research. Even then, not everything is equal. Chips grouped under the same family are sometimes radically different on the inside, and even a savvy shopper might be surprised to find his phone comes up short. We’re here to cut through the nonsense and give you some straight talk about which phones are best when games matter most.

For anyone using iOS, I suggest you try the stock android experience offered with the nexus 4. I used to prefer iOS but android has more customization and very recently competitive build quality.
