I don't think the PS Vita is going to find much success. The hardcore audience would rather play games like Uncharted on their home consoles, not on the vita.
I guess that is why 3DS is the fastest selling console of all time...because people would rather play games on home console?
3DS what? Link please!
Thanks for showing an absolutely blatant comprehension of the core gamer. Ridiculous articles like these are why Examiner is down to one and a half stars on this site. Not much further to go... I encourage everyone to click on the examiner.com link beneath Read Full Story and rate them appropriately.
This guy attempts to speak as if he was the voice of every gamer. Saying things like "we..." and "no one wants to..." I'm sorry, who is "we"? This guy believes that no gamer wants to play Uncharted on a handheld. Imagine if he had told Nintendo to not make a Mario game on a handheld because no one wanted to play it outside of a home console. Ridiculous. And yet, Uncharted:GA keeps selling and so does the Vita. Every real gaming handheld since the GameBoy has had console-like games among quicker to pick-up-and-play games. Including the PS Vita. He basically wants all games on the VIta to be like iOS games. Because, you know, f*** depth and gameplay! Right? He misses the point entirely. The fact that the PS Vita isn't made up of a bunch of phone/iOS games is what separates it from the rest. So far, I'm having a blast with it.
. "The hardcore audience would rather play games like Uncharted on their home consoles, not on the vita." "Sony is under the impression that gamers want to play the same, or close to the same, experience on the go. This kind of experience cannot be played out in the ten to fifteen minute walks down the street or wait at the doctor’s office." Different strokes for different folks. There are people that have always wanted a console experience on the go. If you don't want that then buy a 3DS or stick with you iOS games. What I like about the Vita is that it further diversifies mobile gaming. Imagine if the Vita only played games similar to those on the iOS. You'd actually then have a valid argument about why buy the Vita when I can have the same type of experience on my smartphone. Imagine if the Vita played games similar to the 3DS/had the 3DS' graphics? You'd then make the argument on why you should buy the Vita over the 3DS as the 3DS has all of nintendo's first party games.
"Imagine if the Vita only played games similar to those on the iOS. You'd actually then have a valid argument about why buy the Vita when I can have the same type of experience on my smartphone. " Thats the sentiment I've been trying to find the words to express with the iDevice comparisons. Thanks. Bubble+
There are many "10 to 15 min games" on the Vita. But for some reason, the moment Sony releases Uncharted on it, every game on the Vita suddenly isn't quick to pick up and play. The Vita has games for every taste. ____ @Outside_ofthe_Box, ""What I like about the Vita is that it further diversifies mobile gaming. "The hardcore audience would rather play games like Uncharted on their home consoles, not on the vita." The hardcore audience games their asses off, whether it be home console, handheld, arcade...any chance they get. I really hate that argument..like the hardcore audience only plays one type of game.
It's the 10 to 15 minute thing that annoys me about this argument. Yes, in this world there is absolutely no situation where you would want to be playing a game on the go for longer than 15 minutes. Okay, this is true. We've just ignored long train/plane/car/coach journeys, because we can't make our shallow argument when we take that into consideration. Idiots. It's not even just those situations though. Sometimes I'll pick up a handheld at home "wow, you're stupid. You could just go play uncharted on your PS3" Yes I could indeed, but I've already done that, haven't played golden abyss though, have I? What else is annoying about this whole "don't want a console experience on the go" thing, is that where does it say "only for console ports" in anything related to the vita, beyond articles like these? Nowhere. Just because the machine is capable of producing those kinds of experiences (which is nothing short of impressive) doesn't mean it's only allowed to do that and can't have anything at all designed for short arcadey fun. I mean, it has ridge racer and wipeout, so pick your game for your wait. At the doctors? go do a quick race or two. Flying half way around the world? Go jump into a epic story driven experience like uncharted. The thing already caters to what they're complaining it's not meant for. RAGE. Also, I really think SSX would be an awesome port to make to vita, since it's all about beating scores and race times and from the demo, runs take only a few minutes. Hey wait a sec, that's a console experience suited to be played in quick sessions. Oh but I guess that will never happen, you can't have home console experiences on the go, you see. People don't want that. SMFH

Or the wifes hogging the TV - watching eastenders/coronation street/ emmerdale/ river city/ holby city/ casualty or any of the other mind numbing televisual extravaganzas that she delights in torturing me with.
I play games when I'm at home. I used to have a DS but I just gave that to my niece. There are too many games I have to play on PS3 and 360 and I really don't have time for another console. When I travel I like to read a book.
Another failure article that should be reported and ignored by the playstation vita. This site should be cleansed and wiped clean from this type of garbage.
thanks for the read
Hmmmm... So this applies to the VITA but not the games on the 3DS. Most of the games on the 3DS there are console versions of them and yet we don't ever hear 'Why buy a 3DS when you can play these games on the Wii, DS or other Nintendo systems. What is the difference between playing Mario Kart on the 3DS and playing Mario Kart on the Gamecube or Wii? UC:GA is a NEW game. It isn't a port to isn't a remake, it isn't a copy of UC 2 or 3. It is a NEW game. Get it straight or shut up.
Even though you do make a valid point. There is no reason to try to drag the Nintendo 3DS into this downward spiral of written chaos being thrown at the Vita.
I am sorry. I just want people to realize that no one is saying this about the 3DS and the VITA is taking all the hits. Nintendo has a ton of games that play basically like their console counterparts and no one seems to see this but people seem to keep saying this about the VITA 'Why should I buy a VITA when I could just play UC on the console. I mean they just brought out Mario Tennis 3DS. I could play Mario Tennis on any of the Nintendo systems I have access to and not even look at the 3DS one. But that is never pointed out by ANYONE.
Super Mario 3D land is not the same as Mario Galaxy. 3D land consists of short levels that can be completed in a matter of minutes, which works for a portable device. Collecting the stars in Mario Galaxy requires much more time. I am aware that the Vita Uncharted is a new game, but it does not hold up to Uncharted 3. That was my point. It is an inferior game mimmicking its console bretherin that came out only a few months ago. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is not a system seller.
and Super mario 3d land isnt inferior to Mario Galaxy?
Geez jolly...you really just don't get it. It's hilarious reading through your comments. You're dead serious about everything you're saying. If you wrote this article, this is proof to how horrid gaming journalism is today.
Obviously this article was designed by the writer to use negative press in order to generate statistics for his own struggling editorial abilities. Stating the obvious, PlayStation Vita will not fail. Sony Computer Entertainment broke new grounds by being the first company not named Nintendo to successfully place a dent in the handheld market. With over 75 million units sold globally, the PSP succeded where the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Gizmondo, Atari Lynx and countless other handhelds failed. Playstation®Vita is superior to all the otherr handhelds Dark Sniper just mentioned. It is a continuation of the greatness that Sony provides on a consistent basis. What isn't being mentioned is the sheer fact that the vastly inferior Nintendo 3DS is only sellng units because of a desperation move by Nintendo to drop the price. For a handheld that does nothing else except Nintendo 64 ports, it is reasonbly priced. Sony has stated years ago that next gen starts when they say so. Which means that is the perfect time to embrace the future with PlayStation®Vita $niper
The PSP was a success in Japan and not so much in the states. I would argue that the psp was superior to all other handhelds at the time and it still did not sell well in North America. The 3DS is selling because two Mario games came out during the holiday season.
I have my vita it's amazing and for people that think it should be a phone- batter will be out withing 5 hours if your gamin gone it (and from the quality i see you WILL)- it's fine as it is; if you don't want it don't get it it's aimed at a different market so f off with your pointless articles
"it's fine as it is; if you don't want it don't get it it's aimed at a different market" THANK YOU! Everyone thinks the Vita needs to sell mainstream numbers in order for it to be a success. Sony themselves know that the Vita has limited market. So if the Vita were to sell 75+ mil units just like PSP for lifetime sales that would be a HUGE accomplishment for a handheld that supposedly has a limited audience.
yes clearly as long as they are making a profit on everyone sold it's cool- which they are. What i find most amusing is nintendo are making a loss on each one sold so really record sales for them isn't really a good thing is it?
i don't think so, the article might say psv will probably fail, but well never know great games on psv is in the works like Persona 4 the golden, final fantasy X Hd remake, MGS Remake hd
These articles keep saying people don't want console experience on the go, yet Uncharted is the best selling game on Vita so far.
They also ignore the fact that Vita's lineup of games is incredibly diverse already and it's disingenuous to act like the Vita only has Uncharted-style down-sized console games. Games like Lumines, Mutant Blobs Attack, Super Stardust Delta and Escape Plan show the Vita can do bite-sized gaming just fine, and with far better controls than any phone.
add in PSP mini's than orig PSP games, soon to be PS1 games than add in Playstation Suite games, an yet there is still a question of viability of the PSVita only being a console port machine? LMAO
A little gem of a game called Motorstorm RC is why will buy a Vita....great lineup of games and some prominsing ones in the future Just another fail article which "fails" in my opinion
i already own a vita i won it at taco bell and i can tell you first hand it'll be successfull
Oh look, one of these...
Golden Abyss is the best Uncharted game yet... and a much different experience than its big boy console predecessors.
This article should be retitled "trashing a system i cant afford" smh
Unchartered has still sold alot less than an average 3rd party 3ds game Vita is a FAIL.
how's that one bubble working for ya?,On topic i bought the 3g/wifi bundle along with uncharted golden abyss, and i couldn't be more happy with my playstation vita,it's amazing, and uncharted is awesome, can't wait for metal gear hd collection.
From his pic alone. You'll already know what type of article it is.
The price point issue is really getting old as well because its traditional for console prices to go down eventually. So I could never really see this point because people can wait before buying. After all the Vita is a WANT and not a NEED like a smartphone. If down the line Sony fails to deliver the PS Suite games, more free apps, more exclusive titles for the Vita, the implementation of the PSOne classic (just to name a few) then we can truly say it has failed but right now everything is too early to tell. Then again I've seen this doom and gloom articles from PC gaming up to the 3DS and all of them where found to be shallow articles in the end.
