IGN - DICE: Behind That Call of Duty Ad

IGN - The ad campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops went out of its way to show normal people playing the game, in order to reassure the public that it wasn't an experience filled with young, aggressive males. But the award-winning campaign used the "authentic" voice of gamers as an invitation to would-be noobs.

That was the message from Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg at his DICE speech today in Las Vegas. Before joining Activision 18 months ago, Hirshberg was an advertising executive of 20 years standing and creator of the Kevin Butler campaign.

You mean, celebrities and paid actors, right? Didnt know they were normal average folks like me, guess its why the ad didn't appeal to me nor did I get the game.

GraveLord4882d ago

They're actors playing ordinary people.
You can't be that dumb.....EVERYONE ON TV IS AN ACTOR.

killerhog4882d ago

And you missed the point. Maybe you're dumb

Jdub895O4882d ago

sorry but this ad was awesome.

frostypants4882d ago

"in order to reassure the public that it wasn't an experience filled with young, aggressive males"

So, they lied. It's full of exploiters, glitchers, and screeching morons.

But the ad is indeed cool.

They should of had that RPG hit a building dead center and have nothing happen except leaving a black mark like in COD games.

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb34d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville33d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?

Obscure_Observer34d ago

Deathdeliverer34d ago

It’s a HELL of a game. If you like JRPGs in the family of Persona, you will be in heaven… that is until you hear the various battle music…. then you’ll be somewhere BEYOND heaven!

Only a big company that has interest in gaming like Microsoft or Tencent could have acquired Activision. Extremely low interest rates at that time certainly helped.

Not exactly sure that a merger with EA would’ve benefited any of their franchises or gamers. I imagine it would’ve been like the activision blizzard one were each publisher retains their own identity. So Activison-Blizzard-EA. But who knows.

fsfsxii131d ago

If it was owned by EA, COD could’ve disappeared a looong time ago. They have no clue how to manage franchises.

Gamingsince1981118d ago

It's a shame EA didn't buy them then, COD should die, it's past its prime and has been since black ops 2, I started playing it when cod 4 mw first came out and it has been downhill since.

thank goodness we dodged that landmine 😒
