This should prove that most comparisons where the PS3 seems washed out are wrong. Here's why...
Oh is true I see the change
it's about time someone has proven that gametrailers.com videos use an inferior setting on the ps3 which makes the colors look worse when compared side by side to xbox 360. over and over we have seen these videos on every multiplat game and it makes me sick. they have the where-withall to record both games side by side with that moving bar in the middle, but cannot adjust the ps3 settings to make a fair comparison. i own both consoles, and i will not be using gametrailers.com videos for any decisions on what version to buy, there are many other sites out there. do not trust news from n4g either, its always biased one way or the other. i have a 360 with halo 3, dead rising, lost planet, and gears, xbl gold member. im a captain in halo 3 which is a great game. i also have a ps3 with warhawk, r&c, oblivion, rb6 vegas, high velocity bowling (awesome game), pain, among others. i plan on getting uncharted for xmas (the demo is awesome!!). i find myself playing the 360 for fps and ps3 for everything else.
im getting my ps3 today, so i guess i leave superwhite and rgb full "OFF". edit: "on"
Why does turning on Super White make the game so dark you can barely see in some spots?
...if everything looks better with these options on, why does Sony have them in the first place? I'm not trying to troll here. It just seems to me that if it looks better with these options on, why would Sony have them off by default? Why would they have an option at all that would make the video output look worse? Is it to make the game look better on standard definition televisions?
you all do know that this video is a fake. The video of assassin's creed is the comparison video, the part where he is like limited and full comparisons is just stamped over the 360 and ps3 signs. i remember how the video comparison went, and how it wasn't entirely synced at some parts. These are the exact same parts. I'm not saying that by changing these settings that (your TV has to support) are not going to make a difference, but just that the video he has running of AC is fake.
2.4 - I don't get it.... ...if everything looks better with these options on, why does Sony have them in the first place? I'm not trying to troll here. It just seems to me that if it looks better with these options on, why would Sony have them off by default? Why would they have an option at all that would make the video output look worse? Good question, I don't know the answer but here is a better question. Why does the PS3 only come with Audio Video cables? Would it be hard to at least include composite?
this is not a comparison, not a reputable source, just a video blog. not news. This DOES nothing to retort the Game Reviews poasted by the reputable editorial organizations. THIS IS NOT NEWS. REPORT AS LAME.

for limited and Full, is because some older HDMI enabled TV's cannot handle the full RGB range (have 16-255 instead of 0-255). If you set Full RGB on a set that doeant support full RGB it will look too dark. Check this board: - http://forums.gametrailers.... The original page for testing has been pulled off Gameswank, but it originally let you download a greyscale chart that you could view on your tv through the PS3. With Full RGB on and adjustment to brightness you should be able to see most of not all the boxes to deterimne wether your TV supports Full. I tested it and My TV works well, and looks fabulous with this set on. When I look at Gametrailers comparisons, first I laugh at the piss poor encoding quality, even the HD streams look SH!T secondly I wonder if they even USE HDMI on PS3. It looks like they are using Component.
I agree, I used to wonder why Motorstorm looked washed out and then I changed to those setting and it was no more washed out(even the PS2 emulation comparison, people used to say PS3 is washed out, this is probably the culprit).
this is dumb
Microsoft must have paid off Sony to make the procedure more difficult than it has to be, so it SEEMS like the 360 version looks better Oh, and they also paid off GameTrailers for good measure ...and YouTube ...Just because they didn't want to be carrying around all that change in their pocket
I've used these settings since I had my system, I guess that's why games never looked washed out to me.
This is just a youtube video, and it does show it, but youtube quality is generally bad, but whatever....I don't care.
Yeah I didn't agree with the google/youtube video but the before and after settings needed to be seen which is why I approved it.
Agree. I changed the settings right when I hooked up the ps3 to the tv the first time...
Here here... I think there are 2 kinds of people.. those that actually figure out how to use their kit and those that can only play with it.
Splinter Cell other then that one game all the rest dont look washed out to me
hahahaha RIGHT a low quality google vid hahaha sony fans never give up
I wish someone would of told me sooner.
Your HDTV has to support it in the first place. On my tv, full range makes it too dark, so I stick with limited and fiddle with the brightness settings in the game itself.
Limited is for HDMI & Component Full is for VGA I had the same problem with my 360 hooked up with a VGA cable, everything was dull/washed-out. A system update added 3 reference levels: Standard [same as Limited] Intermediate Expanded [same as Full] My PS3 is hooked by HDMI and is set to "Limited" and doesn't look washed-out.
Sony fans have to resort to google video quality to try and say their games are on par. Gears of war, 1 year old and still the best looking console game. Jump in. Oh and I can't wait for gears 2...number one looking console game again :)
Its true though. They say the games look washed out and some "Average Joe" comes and disputes gametrailers and Xbots. Its a shame how the industry works. Im sure gametrailers made the PS3 version look like crap compared to the 360. Gears will always be gears. Gears 2 will look the same. The 360 maxed out with gears 1. Future games will look better then gears. Guaranteed. Oh and Mark Reign himself said UT3 looks better than gears.
Umm Unreal Tournament 3 > Gears of War in terms of graphics...even Mark Reign himself said that too lol...fanboys these days =P But back on topic, the whole RGB Limited to Full really does make a huge difference in how the games look, but I personally wouldn't know how AC looks on the PS3 since I picked up the game for the 360
What's even sadder is that you feel the need to troll PS related news.
Gears of War isn't the best looking game. - Even saying that, it is better looking than UT3 (I don't care who told you what, just see for yourself). - This is PS3 AND Xbox 360 news, so why are you trolling 360 related news?
ut3 does not come close to looking like gears of war this is just facts as ive played both no game looks better than gears of war and it was released in the 1st year of the 360 exsitance put uncharted screens with gears of war if u dont belive me ive noticed even pstards have never done this comparison as they know what the anser will be gears of war is much much much better looking than crapcharted drakes poo
If you actually played Uncharted and not just look at the screenshots on the internet you'd know GoW graphics pale in comparison. Reviewers also mention Uncharted has the best graphics on any console so far. But then again, GoW is 1 years old and yes the graphics were the best last year.
is this new to u people, I had it set up like that since I got mine. In the videos they also dont use HDMI. I think they use component cables on both, well the ps3 comes with regular AV cables so I dunno. Actually I could really care less which version looks better, its the same game in a different box, most of u wouldn't even notice a difference if u played em back to back unless somebody tells u.
Yes, I think that's exactly what gametrailers and gamespot does, use Component Cables. The only site I've seen that uses "full range" HDMI for their comparisons is Eurogamers. If you take a look at the COD3 comparison by Eurogamers: http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... the game doesn't look any different on either console. But if you look at the comparisons from gametrailers or gamespot, e.g. http://www.gametrailers.com... , the ps3 version looks really washed out since its using component cables probably.
By default the visuals are washed out. This video is suggesting you modify the options on the PS3 versions in order to keep pace with the Xbox 360 versions. GameTrailers isn't trying to run a scam or anything (or some cases, they must be paid off by Microsoft, right Sony fans?). When GT does a video comparison, both games are run on their default settings. So yes, by default, PS3 games tend to look washed out compared to Xbox 360 games (multiplatform titles). It's no secret.
False. The display options that were set on the video are made to be used on games. They have the options in the display settings because of blu-ray and regular dvd's. Dont get it twisted. Know some facts.
That's not fact. That's modifying the settings. I could have easily created a YouTube video and claimed that the Xbox 360 had the same visual quality as the PS3 and went into the console's settings to dumb it down in order to keep pace with it (PS3). This is retarded.
holy crap. you are so idiotic i never want to see another thing you ever have to say. you obviously have no grip on reality. welcome to my ignore list.
All I can do is say NO and laugh.
That is called tweaking your setting to get the best from it. If I follow your logic, I should have left my Sammy HDTV on the factory settings which most call TORCH MODE since the default brightness, contrast and color looks like utter $hit. That is why they give you differnt modes, color options, brightness options, contrast options .... for tweaking. With these setting you get what you want. My TV after I tweaked/adjusted it, looks 1000x times better than out of the box. I see what you mean with the "DEFAULT" settings, but they should have the same person tweak both consoles to get the best visuals from them and then compare. This shows the TRUE capability of your gear.
that is untrue. Previously on the 360, VGA(and in some cases HDMI) was almost always washed out(it was stated in comparisons from IGN as well). MS fixed it last May with the ability to choose reference levels. Every single comparison from GT has the PS3 version washed out and this is the reason for that.
You can't seriously be this dumb? so you're telling me adjusting your tv settings is cheating? i guess i cheat whenever i play with my stereo's Equalizer settings? Welcome to my ignore list dumbass. p.s. xbox 360 also has adjustable video settings, genius.
and the good part about this is a couple months back sony said that future updates will allow sony to make video have better quality through the display settings like how they added the YBR thing back in the earlier updates.
You can also argue that the default settings for PS3 might not be as good as 360's default but at the end of the day knowing you can improve the visuals on your tv through a couple PS3 options is a plus and the fact that sony can improve it even more in future firmware updates makes it all that much better, deny it but its true.
hahahaha!! Still the good ol' (but very stupid) debate on which ones better...even thought this thread isn't about that...
I never understood why they looked so poor on their trailers and no way near that on my tv. I just figured it was a casualty of the internet but they probably did screw the settings up or didn't use HDMI because it's gold on my t.v. If you don't believe me come to: 123 Somewhere St. Anyplace, Somestate USA 65432
...but its interface is 10 times sexier than the one on the 360. Don't get me wrong, the interface on the 360 is easy to navigate and has some bright colours but it lacks any sort of class what so ever. I actually hate the ads on the dashboard which I find obtrusive. You should be able to turn them off, especially if you are a Xbox Live Gold subscriber.
yes. screenshot for screenshot the black looks very sexy but the PS3 interface I find extremely boring like...EXTREMELY boring the icons take up no room...so theres all this empty space?
...there are lots of free themes for the PS3 to use up some of that empty space. I would much rather have empty space than an add for a game you can't even download from Marketplace.
But the ps3 interface is easier to use.
XBOX 360 has ads? LMAO! That's like buying a new computer with ads.
the funny thing is that those comparisons of the ps3 vs 360 were so odd. the ps3 version looked ALOT better then what the videos showed. it looked just like what the 360 version looked like. how did they do that or WHY DID THEY DO THAT?
I'm a sony fan, but being "washed out" isn't the only problem with PS3 multi-platform games. PS3 versions also usually have worse textures and aliasing. A good example of this is COD4. COD4 was supposed to look identical on both systems according to infinity ward, but after seeing both on the same TV, it is obvious that the PS3 version's textures are much, much worse. The aliasing is also much worse. I hope developers eventually get used to the PS3, because this is not good.
...o anything that backs up your comment. I am looking at getting a PS3 in the new year and pick up COD4 on the PS3. However, is COD4 on the PS3 really that noticably different in quality?????
I have HD (1280 X 720) gameplay videos in h.264 from both versions of COD 4, and I play them side by side and the textures look exactly the same. Funny....how some people see things they want to see, instead of what's actually there. I challenge anyone to point out any texture differences from this HD video.... http://www.gametrailers.com...
It looks and performs identical on all three platforms: PC, PS3, and 360.
I've seen that comparison video before and it proves nothing. I've also heard the talking points from infinity ward and they are liers. You have to see them on the same TV with the same settings. They are definitely not identical. Of course it isn't that big of a deal, but the textures really suffer on the PS3. Also the aliasing. Believe in me, for I speak not but the truth in all things.
Is it a native 1080p (at full 1080p resolution) or one of the less expensive 1080p signal compatible sets with a much lower resolution. I have heard that the scaler in the PS3 is not ideal for scaling back to 720p or 1080i as good as the 360 can. Is this true????
Uhh....you're going a little over my head there. I don't know much about tech stuff. My TV is only a 32 inch sony bravia, and it only goes to 720p. Also, I have component cables and not HDMI. But if you only own a PS3 then by all means get COD4, it still looks good on the PS3, just not as good, and its still a great game. But if you own both a 360 and a PS3 then for the love of Buddha, get the 360 version.
someone on neogaf put up a post with mouse-overs of COD4 b/t PS3 and 360. For the most part they were identical, but on a few of them, the 360 definitely had better textures. I'd post the link but it no worky anymore. i.e. the car ride sequence, the texture on the driver's hat, the dashboard/gages, headrests, etc. Everything was much more crisp in the 360 version. Now, flame me if you want, but this is because of streaming texture assets (in game sequence) and is due to the seperate memory pools on PS3. SO, in some of the "sequence" portions of the game like car ride and the stage where your in the back of the truck, 360 pulls ahead on textures due to better access to memory. However, it is up for debate but the PS3 version may have better AF..
first comment, i didnt even watch the video. but like i said, assasins creed LOOKS alot better when playing on the ps3 then the way gametrailers showed it. I WONDER WHY?
Halo 3, mass effect, lost odd, forza 2, pgr4.. Only good looking game on the 360 is cod4..
Those games top everything on the PS3. You really should think before you post something like that. PS: Hey man did you pick up unwanted:Drakes flop? Of course not, nobody is it is failing like every PS3 game.
unfortunately, Icewake... Lost oddysey is something that is not impressive at all, yes, mass effect has incredible character models, but Forza 2's cars have less than 100,000 polygons each....the cars in Gran Turismo 5 have over 200,000 each ( http://www.psu.com/Gran-Tur... )....at 1080p ( true 1080p, not 720p scaled up like the 360 is famous for) and 60 fps....with up to 16 of them on the track at once...(go to bottom of the first page of that article to see about the multiplayer) By the way, UNcharted, Drake's fortune is an amazing action adventure title, and for you to knock it is retarded. Have you played it? The game uses the most advanced water effects ever put into a game....(sorry.....unreal engine [gears of war] doesn't put world reflections into its water, let alone wave reflection and light refraction) Also, there are so many advanced and layered animations processed every second in Uncharted, that it simply wouldn't have been possible (at least at the same performance levels) on any other processor. ALso, how about subsurface scattering? Do you know what that is? How about global illumination? There are so many advanced effects that haven't even been tried in a 360 game yet... Should I continue?
praise the PS3, morons brag about the 360. There is no bias in that statement, its an observation that has held true for the last two years.
You talk all this high praise for GT5 have you seen the gameplay videos on Gametralers.com. I watched them yesterday and couldn't believe how Slow the game moved you say 60 frames I say more like 25 frames per second.I'm sorry but the only thing impressive about GT5 is the graphics because the sense of speed SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a Drving simulator, not a fantasy racer. In case you dont understand: sim·u·la·tor Pronunciation: \ˈsim-yə-ˌlā-tər\ Function: noun Date: 1835 : one that simulates; especially : a device that enables the operator to reproduce or represent under test conditions phenomena likely to occur in actual performance
Games do not look washed out on mine and i use component. I think the video comparisons dont do justice to the ps3 or 360.
remember people, THIS IS COOPERATE AMERICA. people do get paid to fu** up there competitors and if you dont agree with me, get into the buisness world and come back and tell me different. i was one of the ignorant people who actually thought assasins creed looked alot better on 360 until i PLAYED IT. isnt that funny that they would do that to the ps3 version. i wonder what other games they've dont it to? anybody know of any........
you are f*cked in the head
