How NFC tech could be Wii U's saving grace

Gamasutra: Things haven't been looking especially rosy for the Wii U over the past few months.

E3 crowds were interested in getting their hands on the company's next generation console last June, but that's fairly common for new gaming tech. For the rest of the world, the system didn't seem to have a real hook they could sink their teeth into.

In accordance to the latter half of your post quoted response.

And you have to realize, there're rumors of Nintendo considering changing the "Wii U" name (I think "WiiNu" sounds about right).

NFC will make a lot easier for people wanting to connect their system(s) online, but have difficulty doing so (NFC.com/Wiki). It's the type of feature that benefits both Nintendo, and consumers.

Pokemon MMO with the Pokedex on the screen would be win :P

Could probably use the NFC for figurine battles on it somehow if you wanted, as an extra thing to complement the mmo.

lots of money could be made if nintendo made pokemon, mario, or a new franchises toys if they took advantage of it.

i might play console games again on wii-u. aside from dark/demon's souls my consoles have been retired for years
