Resident Evil 6: An Open Letter to Capcom

Quoted from the Author (Joe Thomas of JTM Games):

"Capcom, Resident Evil 4 was such a brilliant game you could have sold me anything for the next installment, and I kind of feel like you did. Here, with hat-in-hand humility, is my wish list for Resident Evil 6"

Disagree all you want, I didnot like the trailer for RE6, I think they finally turned RE franchise into a brainless zombie shooter.

HarryMasonHerpderp4477d ago

I hate the more action focused resident evil
but this trailer seems to have both the tense
atmospheric parts of the old games and the
action from resi 4 and 5 and i can live with that.
Im just happy to be in a modern day city with zombies again!
as long as it has BOTH action and horror this one
could be a winner.

Darth Gamer4477d ago

I'm going back to play the remake of RE1 again. If I wanted to play a brainless run and gun action shooter, there is already plenty of them out there to choose from. I don't see why it is so hard for these fucking idiots to go back to what made Resident Evil popular in the first place. (Lonley coridors in a big mansion, Lab etc.. Not lots of ammo!!!! more zombies than bullets to kill them with. Suspense and creepy sounds. etc...) I could go on and on but its obviously a fucking waist of time!!!!!!

smashman984477d ago

This looks nothing like a brainless run and gun.

If anything the trailer showed that your gonna have to be on your toes the whole time

it was intense in a resident evil kind of way

while adding new elements. for instance the train section with leon we say it was reminde me of the tight spaces you would find in the old RE''s but with much much more zombies add the moving train to that and youve got tension like weve never seen before

then chris' part we got to see him among a paanicking city of people which correct me if im wrong resident evil has never delved into that sorta thing before. its always shown after the outbreak never during

and finally the 3rd guy who is apparently the cure for the world . Is he hunk, is he related to wesker, i want to know

where re5 was a brainless shooter this looks like it will not be

Tanir4477d ago

game looks amazing,

how stupid would it be if chris, and the crew didn't know how to fight zombies?

these guys are efficient zombie killing machines, would be dumb if they didn't learn by now.

just say you want a new horror game, because whether you like it or not, the progression of the story leads it to being more action oriented. It's scary when the characters didn't know what to expect, but now they do, and to say its mindless when its not even out is sad.

Deadspace was a good horror game and still was just mindless shooting. all that matters is fun. if you want something scary then play Amy lmao.

im sure you would rather the game have horrible shooting and gameplay mechanics like the old RE's. Slow moving, and most of the time you were combating the camera switches and the fact that you couldn't actually aim.

the Old RE games were puzzle games in a survival horror setting, thats all. I think your in love with the nostalgia more than the actual gameplay of the originals

Trainz4477d ago

As much as I don't like you I have to agree with all that you said.

Pozzle4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

I don't know if I completely agree with that. It's true that Leon and Chris should be used to zombies by now, but part of what makes the series so good is that the characters are fairly realistic (well...not counting Chris' giant shoulders and Wesker's plans for world domination). Even the most hardened cops and soldiers have days where they struggle to cope with a murder scene or hesitate when about to shoot an enemy. And even if Chris and Leon have been dealing with zombies for over a decade, that doesn't necessarily mean they are now killing-machines who are able to mow down zombies without batting an eye.

They still have moments where they are unsure of themselves or how to take down an enemy. (But even so, it' a silly argument to make because Capcom aren't making the games more action-oriented for the sake of realism or to show how Chris and Leon have grown as characters. They're making the games more action-oriented to appeal to a mainstream action-loving audience).

I really don't know what the point of bringing up Amy was. There are plenty of decent horror titles that have come out this gen that prove survival-horror can still be done this generation WITHOUT resorting to the use of clunky controls or a static camera.

Though that's also a silly argument to make, because when people say they want the old-school Resident Evil brought back, they aren't saying they want a return of clunky controls and terrible shooting mechanics. They're saying they want a return of the creepy and claustrophobic locations, the menacing enemies, the eerie atmosphere, and so on. Not just mindless shooting in [insert random African location here].

Yeah I figured it would be ordered like this. For me Leons best game was his debut. RE2.

There Will Never Be Another Resident Evil 6 (And That Sucks)

A rough gem that may never get the proper treatment it deserves.

Terry_B402d ago

^^ I don't want what the author was smoking.

-Foxtrot402d ago

It’s this thing where after enough time people start coming out to defend bad games for some strange reason

I mean hey if you liked it good for you but it was a f****** awful RE game.

Capcom are finally back on track and now people are crying about their shitty mistakes? No thanks.

RpgSama401d ago

I'd take a full blown remake of RE6 based around a GREATLY expanded Leon part and make it even more horror.

That might be something I would be interested in, do not care about any of the other parts of that game.

MadLad400d ago

I couldn't even get through the demo.
Years later I bought it for $3 for PC. I played about 5 minutes into it and uninstalled it.

babadivad401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

RE6 was better than 5. RE6 just took the series to the conclusion that started with 4.

RE4 was the inaugural title in the action game trilogy.

RE9 will be the likely end of the first person psychological thriller trilogy.

They'll switch it up for RE10 or more likely titled RE-X.

hotnickles401d ago

5 is vastly better than 6 imo

TheEnigma313400d ago

RE5 is way better than 6. Stop lying to yourself

FallenAngel1984402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

“But all this is solely with respect to how fans felt back in 2013 when Resident Evil 6 had just been released. The game resulted in the series getting indefinitely killed off until 5 years later when we got Resident Evil 7 and balance was restored yet again. ”

1.) Resident Evil 6 came out in 2012, not 2013

2.) A series getting killed off means no titles at all released in a time period. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve & Siren fans would love to see how you can say RE was on the same level of dormancy. In that 5 year time period we had a number of remasters that kept the series alive and kicking. RE1 02ms remaster even broke sales records during the period between RE6 and RE7.

3. Way to disrespect Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was released during that RE6-RE7 period. It along with its predecessor were mainline titles that kept the horror roots of the series alive in comparison to RE5 and RE6. RE: R1 in particular even introduced the ability to walk and shoot into the series, a feature we can all be grateful for that in modern RE titles. The director RE: R1 later went on to direct RE7 and the director of RE: R2 later went to to direct the RE2 & RE4 remakes.

Immagaiden402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

“Resident Evil 6 is often maligned as the worst entry in the Resident Evil series and is cited as the cause behind the long death of the franchise.”

Titles in the Resident Evil series such as Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, & Resistance we’re received far worse than RE6.

And death of the franchise?

RE6 was still one of the most commercially successful games in the series, guaranteeing the franchise’s future. Compare how underwhelming sales of Dead Space 3, Silent Hill: Downpour. Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Dino Crisis 3, Fatal Frame: Maiden in Black Water, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, and Metroid: Other M which caused their respective series to go into a long period of dormancy without any rereleases to even keep activity up.

RE however still had a significant number of titles released and rereleased after RE6. Not only that but development for RE7 started a short time after its predecessor came out, meaning there was never a development time that the series could be considered dead. There hasn’t been a single year that Capcom stopped either developing, releasing, or rereleasing Resident Evil games. Let’s not act like the 5 year period between RE6 and RE7 is such a longer time compared to the 4 year period between RE4 and RE5 as well as RE7 and RE8. We can pretty much expect RE9 in either 2025 or 2026, and you can be certain that Capcom will still release other RE tiles leading up to it

TheEnigma313401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Man go some where with this. Only a few like this game. Why would they remake a garbage game no one likes risking money because it won't sell? RE 6 is dumpster drippings, sorry.

MIDGETonSTILTS17401d ago

It wasn’t that good, even if you enjoyed it like me.
