What Really went Wrong with Battlefield 3

What was promised and what was delivered were two different things, especially on consoles. The console game did not feel like a sequel to Battlefield 2. It played and felt like Battlefield Bad Company 2.5.

Console versions felt awkward and maps were empty because it was designed almost completely for pc. Some with a good pc like me appreciate this, but I also feel for those only on console because they got a fantastic pc game that does not translate to consoles.

BF3 on PC is fine but damn, it's plagued by hackers at night. Nothing like getting mowed down from across the map to empty out half the server.

Luckily, I'm one of those who bought it for my PS3 AND my PC. As the PS3 version was struggling with graphics, and also online play, I quickly switched to the PC version where all was well and beautiful.

I still think EA/DICE could have done a better job, and I think that would be possible with the next BF if they simply stop focusing on CoD so much. They need to throw CoDs success out of the window, that way, they can focus on BATTLEFIELD, and what makes battlefield.. BATTLEFIELD.

CoD will never get beaten, it's the new Facebook, the only way it dies, is when it kills it self. So please EA/DICE, stop focusing on their game so much, and worry about your own.

BF players never EVER EVER go to CoD. The people who went to CoD probably were the ones who jumped on the BF bandwagon on BF3 and went "yaaaaaay this isnt CoD!" but realised it was too much for them or something so they went back to CoD.

Me and around 8 of my friends are BF fanboys, but we've been playing more MW3 since it launched. The reason why we play MW3 is because it's not as serious as BF3, and when playing fast paced game modes such as 'Drop Zone', it has WAY LESS CAMPERS than BF3, in my own experience. This is what I feel, don't attack MY opinion just because you think other wise. Thanks.

I thought the MP was great but the SP campaign was a bit lacking.

Its just that the SP had sooo much potential.

Btw loads of ppl love and play the game. This article reflects the authors opinion or his understanding of it only I believe.

Nothing went wrong with BF3 there was never an ideal BF3 to which it could be compared so how can it go wrong?

If its about beating COD in sales, or some other angle then those are different discussions, this one is quite pointless.

I think it could have been marketed better. I do marketing on the side and BF3 marketing just seemed outdated. The whole UI and chat made it a killer imo tho. One of the main things in the COD series is you talk (shiit) to the other team. BF3 doesnt have this, or the ability to plug and play with a headset and quickly talk to your friends. The squad system sucks! the UI sucks! It looks like MW3 UI is custom made to be easy to use with a controller, BF3's UI is basically made for a mouse and kb. Just how I see it. I think if they REALLY worked on these two main issues the game would appeal to FAR more people. I logged a lot of hours and leveled up plenty of weapons/vehicles, its a very fun game, but when my friends list is on MW3, makes it kinda boring playing with random folks on BF3. I know theres a ton of MW3 hater on n4g but try to look at things from a bigger point of view and not a one side fan thing

Bf3 players will be still playing it when all the Cod junkies jump ship to the next CoD game this nov.

I may be in the minority, but I can't even force myself to play MW3. The maps are too small and the respawn kills keep me away. BF3 on the other hand has been very enjoyable.

If there's anything wrong with BF3, it's the numerous glitches and shitty players. Other than that the game is awesome.

Most of the hardcore gamers I know say BF3 is the better game, and these are CoD diehards I'm talking about. How do I feel about the two? Well, I've logged 150 hours in BF3 since launch day, and the count is still increasing. I played MW3 occasionally for 4 days before sending it back to GameFly. 'Nuff said.

Anyways, the writer of this article is pretty stupid, and doesn't make a fair argument. The whole thing is poorly written, and despite the fact that he makes a good point or two on BF3, he doesn't cover anything regarding MW3. It's pretty easy to tell which game this kid likes, and that alone destroys his argument. It doesn't even appear this kid knows much about BF3 in general. Play the game, THEN tell us what you think.

Playing bf3 an a public server really is a pain in the ass.
Most people just don't (want to?) understand how this game works. They leave the starting areas alone in their empty transport vehicles and rush to the front, just to camp near a conquest point without capturing it.
I know it's redundant, but sadly most players only think about their k/d ratio and by this completely destroy the teamplay.

Playing the game on a "private" server with good players and no cheating is definitely the best online experience out there.
And don't tell about how bf2 or bc2 were way better.
I played bf2 well over 150 hours and bc2 nearly 50 hours and IMHO bf3 is the better experience, as it unites the teamplay from bf2 with the action/intensity of a call of duty game, which is not something bad.

1.if it ant broke don't try to fix it.
2. just because cod is a popular game you don't have to make your game just like it.

I can see a lot of sense in your points here, like #1. Yeah, the old Frostbite engine, squad system, etc. worked really well, but there are tons of improvements between BF:BC2 and BF3 that make the overall game experience feel pretty advanced for its time. At the same time, there are quite a lot of little bugs here and there, which DOES remain a problem.

But, as far as #2 goes...whoa, what? This game is such a different beast than CoD it's like night and day to me. The only thing the two have in common is the basic components for an FPS. Yeah, they both have player/weapon persistence, but BF3's goes way more deep. Just take a look at the weapon/attachment charts at http://symthic.dy.fi/?s=bf3... On top of that, MW3 feels a little too similar to something I played back in 2007, whereas BF3 still FEELS like Battlefield, but introduces some new innovations I would've never thought of. Can't really say MW3 does that, at least for me.

Not sure what #3 is supposed to mean (maybe you should explain?), but to say DICE made BF3 to feel like CoD is a little radical, don't you think?

no, it is well known that cod and bf3 was a big battle and both wanted to win. bf3 looks a lot like cod and cod looks alot like bf. if it ant broke was meaning what worked for bf2 and just adding and tweaking for bf3 not making the next bfbc game which messed with a lot of stuff like commander and squad sizes. too many cooks in the kitchen means Nerf and things like that, some are needed but now days its out of hand.

Battlefield titles have been around way before Call of Duty, they haven't changed that much. Original Battlefield 2 came out in 2005, not all that different.

Yeah, Battlefield will always be Battlefield. That's the name of the game, isn't it? Yet, we've seen additions such as Rush, destructible environments, etc. that push the game a little bit further with each release. Rush, as a game mode, now rivals that of the original Conquest.

Of course, CoD implements a new game mode here and there, but many of them come off as novelties as opposed to game-changers, at least to me. I couldn't play "One in the Chamber" every day for a month, whereas I played Rush for 4 months in BF3 alone before I went on to give Conquest a serious shot. I played BF:BC2 for over a year, and all I really played was Rush.

BF3 added the weapon attachment/dogtag unlocks, which isn't a new concept in gaming, but IS a new concept for BF3. CoD pretty much adds a few add-ons, perks, and tweaks the balance (if you really want to call it that), then calls it a new game. Hell, CoD hasn't even seen a new engine in half a decade.

I'm not saying CoD hasn't made its improvements, either, but when it comes to substantial advancements in terms of gameplay experience, BF3 takes the cake.

Number 1 problem with BF3 are all the COD tards in the game playing the Rambo role, they dont give out ammo, health, mark enemies, arm or dis arm, wont revive you, and use the vehicles like their own private taxis. Do us all a favor and go back to Call O' Doodie. Yea we understand the honeymoon is over and alot of you are just starting to realize how busted MW3 is but just go play Wack Ops or Wii sports or go listen to Justin Beiber or something.

I play both games, but I really have to say that MW3 is leaving a sour taste in my mouth. In COD you now die faster than ever, One second your walking, the next your watching a kill cam and thinking to yourself WTF happened?

Atleast in BF I get some sort of response and know im being shot at and get to face my harbinger before I die.

Then MW3's final nail in the coffin, the Lag compensation. A system whos intent is to purposely screw over players with good connections. What a joke activision.

Sounds like someone who never played BF3 wrote this. I played both COD MW2 and Black Ops to Prestige, great games, but Battlefield 3 blows it out of the water. There are so many angles to BF3 compared to COD MW. Battlefield is not about the campaign its about the multiplayer, always has been. Jets and Helicopters single handedly make BF3 better than COD, kill streak rewards are dumb. In COD MW you call in an air strike, in BF3 you are the air strike, YEEE bishes!
